OK, I'll just link to this picture from the set of Mad Men, since it's kinda (though not really) spoilery. It gives a clue as to what year the show is going to be set in and what happens to two of the major characters. Probably not a huge surprise considering how season two ended, but it's interesting to have a confirmation when it comes to what year the show will be set in.jon hamm-related stories

Actually, two pieces of big news.First, everyone has been wondering when season three of the AMC show would start. A lot of people have been speculating late summer, and then the network said it would be August, but now we have a definite date. The third season will bow on Sunday, August 16 at 10PM.

Mad Men starts filming this week

Yesterday, to be exact. Rich Sommer (Harry) is Twittering about it, and Variety has a story.
The Variety piece says that AMC has "delayed" the show until August 16, but I don't think it's really a delay since the show just started filming this week. Who wants them to rush things? Sure, it's a month later than usual (the show usually premieres in July) so I guess it's a delay, in general, but contract negotiations with Matthew Weiner and other things factored into that. It's still pretty much on target with its season opener, though the show will now go even deeper into the regular seasons of the major networks. The show remains in its Sunday night at 10PM slot.

Filming for the third season of Mad Men starts in a few weeks (and starts on AMC in August), but some folks want to watch season two again (or for the first time). Here's the cover for the season two DVD package and here are the extras. It's not a cigarette lighter, but it's still pretty cool.
Right now on Cinematical
The folks at our sister site Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:- As much as I love Seth Rogen, Observe and Report looks just a little too much like Paul Blart: Mall Cop for my tastes. Read the review and see if it's actually worth checking out this weekend.
- I would say that not only should Jon Hamm be in more movies, but Jon Hamm should be in every movie. Crazy? Maybe. Awesome? Definitely.
- If you have kids who are into Miley Cyrus, you're going to be seeing Hannah Montana this weekend, regardless of the reviews. However, it may not hurt to read one just to see what you may be getting yourself into.
- 8 Mile and Die Hard reimagined as 50s French Classics? Uh, okay. Why not?
- Cinematical puts out a call for women who hate The Big Lebowski. I am definiitely not one of them.
Would you like some Hamm with your lunch?
Have you ever had a fantasy in which you had lunch with your favorite television celebrity? Well, if you have the cash on hand, now's your chance. Celebrity lunches up for auction include Jon Hamm, Nathan Fillion and Kevin Smith, among others (Patrick Duffy? He's still around?). All proceeds benefit the Adrienne Shelly Foundation for female filmmakers.Honestly, if you did participate in the auction and win one of the lunches, what would you say to the person? I've been tongue-tied in front of celebrities before, when I was much younger. Would you simply ask how they're doing? Would you try to promote that script you've been working on for year? Would you have to buy the lunch, or would the celebrity pay?

30 Rock: The Bubble
(S03E15) "His video game made a fortune and he invested all of it in a company that dismantles bank signs. They're doing very well." - Jack, about TracyI have to really disagree with Jack and Cerie: Liz Lemon is a bubble person.
Sure, Cerie is hot, but Jack himself admits that he hasn't been great looking since he was 25 and still had really blue eyes. They think Liz is merely nice and "pleasant looking"? That's crazy talk. Tina Fey is a bubble person.
That's a line I never thought I'd actually type, but she is. She really is. Liz should get what she wants a lot more than she does.

Lex Luthor asks for a bailout - VIDEO
I'm beginning to think that Jon Hamm is one of the funniest people on television. Maybe it's the serious, moody demeanor he displays on Mad Men that makes his comedy really stand out when he does it, but he's a funny guy. His episode of Saturday Night Live was one of the best in years, and he had a funny scene on 30 Rock. The Funny or Die video after the jump shows more of his humorous side. That's Hamm as super villain Lex Luthor, asking the government for a bailout. Seems that Luthor and his corporation have lost billions of dollars trying to do various things to take over the country and/or get rid of Superman. The video isn't laugh-out-loud funny, but it's clever, and you can see bits of Don Draper in Hamm's portrayal of the bald bad guy. Oh, about that: it's an obvious wig that makes him look a little bit like Max Headroom in close-ups, but it's actually funnier this way.

What's the best show on TV: Lost, 24, or Mad Men?
Are Lost and 24 really the two best shows on TV right now? (A twenty second pause while you're thinking about that.)Welcome back! I would definitely put Lost in the "best" category. I don't know if it's the best, but it's certainly in the top 5. I can't speak for 24 because I haven't seen that much of it (though I take fans' word for it). But USA Today's Robert Bianco says that Lost and 24 are the two best shows on TV.
Um, Mad Men, anyone?

Right now on Cinematical
The folks at our sister site Cinematical are working hard to give you news and reviews of the best -- and worst -- the silver screen has to offer. Here are some of their musings on the latest blockbusters, indies, and everything in between:- I love Friday the 13th and am totally psyched for the new one that just came out. If you need to catch up on the franchise, check out Cinematical's Obsessive-Compulsive Guide to the Friday the 13th Movies.
- I never saw the recent Brandon Routh Superman movie, but if they recast the role of Superman with Jon Hamm, I'll be there in a second. Cinematical asks "when do you recast a character?"
- Felicity Huffman playing a role other than Lynette Scavo? I'm in. Check out the trailer for her new movie, Phoebe in Wonderland.
- Remember how I said I love Friday the 13th? Well, I do. If you do too, check out Cinematical Seven: Jason's Greatest Kills.
- ...Nightmare on Elm Street, on the other hand, doesn't quite do it for me. Cinematical's Scott Weinberg, however, does not agree. In fact, a new Freddy Krueger is totally cool with him.
30 Rock: St. Valentine's Day
(S03E11) "Nice ... you mean like stew?" - Liz to Jack, about what dinner to make DrewOK, I think it's officially time to call out an APB on Josh and the rest of the writing staff. They're missing again this week. Not many supporting characters at all this week. Even Jenna had only one quick (though very funny) scene, while Frank was reduced to just handing off one of the subplots to Kenneth. I really want to see this show get back to some episodes about TGS and NBC and the inner working of the show. It's like TGS is on summer hiatus or something.
Having said that, this episode was quite good.

30 Rock: Generalissimo
(S03E10) "He gets a golf magazine, so you know he's not gay or poor." - Jenna, about DrewWhen I saw the promos for this episode, I audibly groaned. A subplot with an actor on a Telemundo soap opera who just happens to be a dead ringer for Jack? Alec Baldwin wearing a uniform and doing an accent? Ugh, I didn't think it would work at all, and with all of the over-the-top surreal subplots that have been on the show this season, I thought this would be the worst one of all.
But you know what? The subplot worked.

Liz Lemon wants some baked Hamm
If you haven't been excited about Mad Men's Jon Hamm appearing on several episodes of 30 Rock this season, playing a guy who lives in Liz Lemon's building that she dates, then this exclusive clip over at The TV Addict might get you in the mood. The clip shows Liz Lemon bringing some mail that was accidentally dropped in her mailbox to the rightful owner. Someone else answers the door which leads to a very funny line about nails, and then we see Hamm's character Drew. He seems like the perfect guy for Liz because he's not only good-looking but he loves to bake. It's Liz's dream guy, basically. Maybe some enterprising 30 Rock/Mad Men fan can put a recipe together celebrating this episode. <Homer Simpson drool>lemon ham</Homer Simpson drool>. I guess we'll have to wait to find out what makes them eventually break up, because you know they're going to.
This little clip alone has two laugh-out-loud lines, which is one or two more than most sitcoms have. This looks like it's going to be a good one. Hamm's run starts on February 5.
What if Jon Hamm played Jack on 30 Rock?
All this talk about Mad Men star Jon Hamm doing several episodes of 30 Rock as Liz's new boyfriend and this is the first time that this little nugget of information has come out: Hamm auditioned for the role of Jack Donaghy!(He didn't get it.)
In an Entertainment Weekly interview with Fey and Hamm, Hamm unveils that he was one of the first people to audition for the role of the NBC executive on 30 Rock. It was so early in the auditioning process that even Fey doesn't remember him coming in to read the lines. Hmmm...someone else as Jack. Baldwin is so perfect in the role that it's hard to picture someone else there, though I guess if someone else was in the role we wouldn't even think of Baldwin. It will make a great extra for the next DVD set though.
As for Baldwin doing Don Draper, that wouldn't have worked out. I think he'd be too well-known. One of the things that makes Mad Men work is that a lot of the cast aren't household names.
