Colbert, Clinton, Obama and Edwards take on Philadelphia - VIDEOS

Candidates
What in the hell happened last night on The Colbert Report? Or perhaps I'm really wondering why I attended Monday's taping of TCR in Philadelphia and not the final and certainly most epic one.

In true Colbert fashion, TCR ended its four-night run in the City of Brotherly Love with a big ol' Democratic bang. Thanks to Chris Matthews' big mouth, the nation expected Hillary Clinton's "surprise" appearance, but little did we know both Barack Obama and John Edwards would be appearing as well... On the same night! Despite the fact that this was all a blatantly desperate attempt to get a little Colbert Bump action (Edwards knows it's too late, right? I mean, what with him dropping out of the race and all), there really is no better way to seem hip to that all-important youth vote.

Jon StewartEveryone knows that CNN can be a bit of a sensory overload, especially with its fancy new floating pie charts and whatnot. The flashiness took a huge jump when Situation Room first came around and showed off its needlessly numerous screens. At least some fun finally came of it, in the form of a totally random mix-up during recent coverage of John Edward's concession. Apparently, dancing Spongebob Squarepants makes everything better. That's right, no context for you.

John OliverIn case you missed it, Jon made a very special appearance on The Colbert Report Tuesday night. The situation is already a bit confusing, and Jon's explanation of it didn't help much. Actually, don't even think about it too much. Just focus on the fact that Jon is a very tiny man. What he lacks in height, he makes up with well-played self-deprecation.

"Indecision 2008": Big news! John Edwards and Rudy Giuliani have both dropped from the race. Edwards fixed up his hair and delivered a speech to say good-bye and Giuliani, accompanied by his supporters and funny eyebrows, dropped out in Florida. He also got an earful from the media for putting all his eggs in the Florida basket, whatever that means.

Tina Fey optimistic strike will end soon

Garry MarshallA bunch of TV stars, including Tina Fey, Jack McBrayer, Seth Myers, Rashida Jones, Richard Belzer, Colin Quinn, Kristin Davis, and Michael Emerson from Lost are part of a video over at The Huffington Post talking about why writers are important and why the strike is important to the future of the industry. They're joined by Presidential candidate John Edwards and big screen stars Tim Robbins and Danny Glover.

Talks have resumed and parties involved say that things have been productive. Fey even says (it's a little hard to hear in the video) that she's optimistic that a deal can be reached within the next week because there's no reason why people can't go back to work.

It's funny to see Emerson talking about the strike. He still has that Ben "look" in his eye and you expect him to say something like "the writers should be paid for their work...TRUST ME, I WOULDN'T LIE TO YOU, JACK."

The Daily Show: March 29, 2007 - VIDEO

Jon StewartFirst up, coverage of Karl Rove being, um, super-hip at the Radio-Television Correspondents' Dinner. "Let's say Jeffrey Dahmer came to your Bar Mitzvah and turned out to be a great dancer... He's still Jeffrey Dahmer." Oh, Brad Sherwood and Colin Mochrie... For even participating in this event, you two have disappointed me so. I think everyone should experience the horrid sight of MC Karl Rove bustin' a move, because after seeing it, all the sad things in life don't seem so bad anymore. As service to society, I have included the video in this post after the jump.

Viewers rip Katie Couric's interview with John and Elizabeth Edwards

Katie Couric with John and Elizabeth EdwardsKatie Couric can't win, can she? Her version of the CBS Evening News is consistently criticized for being too nice, happy, and morning-show-like. But when Katie gets down to business and does a serious interview with someone, she's knocked for being inappropriately stern.

That's what Couric is facing the day after her 60 Minutes interview with presidential candidate John Edwards and his wife Elizabeth. During the interview, Couric asked the couple tough questions about whether it was wise for the Edwardses to continue on the campaign trail now that Elizabeth's cancer has metastasized and become inoperable. Instead of proceeding in her usual warm, smiling manner, Couric decided to be deadly serious, keeping a straight face and pursuing lines of questioning that started with "Some say," like when she said to the couple, "Some have suggested that you're capitalizing on this."

After CBSNews.com posted the interview and allowed viewer comments, many took Couric to task for not being understanding enough, especially given her family history (her husband died of colon cancer in 1998).

Chris Matthews back on MSNBC tonight

Chris MatthewsI knew that Chris Matthews hadn't been on Hardball for a couple of weeks, but I didn't know the reason: he was hospitalized due to complications from diabetes.

Matthews will be back on the MSNBC show tonight at 7pm, where he will interview former Vice President candidate and probable future Presidential candidate John Edwards at one of those "College Tour" stops, this one at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Various hosts have been filling in for Matthews while he was in the hospital. Andrea Mitchell went in his spot during a panel discussion at the Castle at the Smithsonian at the end of November, and then Campbell Brown filled in on the college tour. For the past several days, columnist Mike Barnicle has filled in for Matthews on Hardball.

Jon Stewart"Mess O' Potamia": Call for a new Secretary of Defense... The administration is looking for someone with fresh eyes and open ears (the picture of the perfect candidate was actually really scary... like, scarier than Rummy, heh). Senior White House Correspondent John Oliver briefly talked about all the ways that Congress may or may not be Bush's bitch. Oliver's attempt to be snippy was absolutely hilarious... I loved hearing "Know what I'm saying?" in his crisp, British accent. Okay, um, yeah. I think I may be falling in love with John Oliver. That is all.
