I'm a sucker for stunt casting. Sure, it can get annoying after a while, (hello
Will & Grace) but I still love seeing a Michelle Trachtenberg on
Gossip Girl or a Britney Spears on
How I Met Your Mother. So I was really excited to read that
Courteney Cox has signed up to guest star on Scrubs this season.
Cox, who was most recently seen on her FX drama,
Dirt, is returning to the small screen for a three-episode arc as Sacred Heart's newest Chief of Medicine. The position was left open after Dr. Kelso (Ken Jenkins) retired at the end of last season. Since Cox is only going to be on the show for a handful of episodes, something tells me that she's not going to do well in her new position. Her character is said to "ruffle some feathers," and it sounds like she's ruffling the wrong ones right out the door.

If there is one rumor that never dies it's the one about the possibility of a
Friends reunion. Since the series finale aired in May 2004, rumors about a reunion popped up here, there and everywhere. Sometimes the rumor takes the form of "
there will be another spinoff" (remember
Joey?) but most of the time it's a "
there are talks about a movie but one of the stars doesn't want to commit." This week's revival of the rumor is of the latter kind.

What's got you down, Dinky? Tired of watching the same old holiday specials on television over and over again? Does the greenish fur of the the Grinch actually make you sick? Do you wish that The Year Without a Santa Claus actually came true? Can you recite every single line from It's a Wonderful Life?
Well, perk up, Flyboy! AOL's IN2TV has the prescription to cure your holiday television blues, courtesy of two dozen Christmas specials that you didn't even know existed or didn't even care. Be amazed at the Cabbage Patch Kids' First Christmas, where the Kids leave the patch and head to the big city in search of some Christmas spirit. And, the cost for all of this merriment? FREE, my holiday-impaired friends! All you need to do is follow this link to bask in the glory of a Kirk holiday episode. Don't thank me, dear patrons, thank the Internet for this wondrous Christmas miracle.

Tonight at dinner, a friend of mine mentioned that he recently met Brent Spiner at an event. He then proceeded to tell me about how a particularly annoying Star Trek fan spent the entire evening bothering Spiner with questions about his character Data.
It reminded me of an episode of Joey where a similar thing happened, except in the episode, Spiner was more than happy to reminisce about his Star Trek days. He even went so far as to take Joey's nephew out to his car to show him his actual uniform from the show.

In July, I was at a
sitcom writing seminar in which
Sam Simon (who helped develop
The Simpsons)
declared: "the sitcom is dead." Veteran comedy writer
Ken Levine (who hosted that sitcom seminar), however, disagrees. Ken believes the traditional multi-camera sitcom
might be on a respirator, but still has a pulse. Levine said, "I would amend Sam's statement and say that yeah, the bad, stale, family sitcom with tired rhythms, forced laughs, and bogus characters is dead."
I guess if you're trying to revive the dying sitcom, a good way to start is by assembling a top-notch team. And Fox's new Wednesday night comedy,
Back to You, does just that.

Other than our occasional snarky remarks about Joey . . . okay, my occasional snarky remarks about Joey . . . we haven't heard too much from Matt LeBlanc lately. Well, he's back in the news, but not for good reasons.
According to a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles Superior Court LeBlanc's former business manager, Camille Cerio, is suing the former Friends star for back pay of one million dollars. Cerio, who claims she was LeBlanc's manager back in 1994, says the actor signed a letter approving payment of 15 percent of his earnings from "pilot and series derived from Friends Like Us (the name of the Friends' pilot) and subsequent jobs derived henceforth". In normal English this means she should've been paid for LeBlanc's roles on Friends as well as Joey.

About a week ago Keith sent this YouTube video to us TV Squadders, and I have to say it'll make it so you never watch Full House the same way again. A man by the name of Sean Klitzner has placed himself within an episode of Full House (renamed "Fuller House") and turned it into a sick and depraved sitcom about inappropriate relations between a grown man and the three Tanner daughters. The video starts off kind of slow, so if you want to get to the stuff that had me laughing so hard I almost choked on my own eyeballs, skip to 4 minutes and 40 seconds into the video. I only recommend this for people like myself who have an incredibly sick and twisted sense of humor. Otherwise you might want to scrub yourself with holy water and steel wool after you view it. AOL Television news has an interesting story by USA Today reporter Gary Levin on the
impact American Idol has on other shows that share its time slot. The summary: Idol grabs huge
numbers (nearly 30 million viewers) while the other shows struggle.
Case in point, The ABC sitcoms According
to Jim and Hope & Faith (which I didn't realize was still on the schedule) are earning their lowest
numbers ever. NBC's Joey lasted all of one week on the Tuesday night schedule before being removed. The
Idol effect is also hurting Wednesday night show's as well, especially the juggernaut known as Lost.
Since the Idol result show began in late February the ABC show has lost almost 20% of its audience.
But
the news is not all bad. The CBS shows NCIS and Criminal Minds are faring better against
Idol, mostly due to their base of older viewers and young men. Whether they can hold on to that audience as
the competition nears its end is another matter entirely.

It seems there was more to Matt LeBlanc's recent "I'm getting divorced" announcement than we originally thought. It turns
out that LeBlanc has been involved in some extracurricular activities with his doomed sitcom co-star Andrea Anders.
LeBlanc, who's currently gasping for air on
the painful to watch Joey, walked out on his wife and two year old daughter back in January. Friends of
LeBlanc's soon to be ex-wife say she was, "absolutely blind-sided by what transpired." She wanted to try
couple's therapy, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen since she confronted him and LeBlanc admitted to his
deeds.
I always find it weird to hear news about a celebrity that isn't in line with a character they're known
for. But at the same time, you know what? The guy is only human. And this is America ... go walk out in your front yard
right now. There's probably a couple getting divorced in the street as you read this.

I think it's pretty obvious at this point that
Joey is not coming back for another season. First, co-star
Andrea Anders left the cast to join the
CBS comedy pilot,
The Class. Now Paulo Costanzo, who played Joey's nephew, has signed on to a different CBS
comedy pilot about an engaged couple, a married couple and a single guy. I know, you were probably thinking Costanzo
will be the single guy, but he's actually one-half of the engaged couple.
Now, what do you think Drea de
Matteo will do next?

After one appearance in its new Tuesday night
time slot, NBC has
pulled
Joey off the schedule indefinitely. It will be replaced by the one show that may be even less
entertaining than
Joey:
Most Outrageous Moments.
Variety is reporting that
NBC might burn off the remaining new episodes of
Joey sometime this summer. Of course, the peacock network has
yet to actually admit that it has cancelled
Joey, but it's only a matter of time. Especially since one of the
co-stars has already
signed on to a new
pilot on a different network.
