(S08E03) With the results of week one, it could go either way. Either a non-contender bites the dust, or someone just doesn't have the fanbase. You can't say that Gilles has no fanbase after two really strong performances.
The recap show somehow managed to squeeze 26 performances in an hour. I now realize how much time I've wasted having to sit through Samantha Harris. Along with the results, and 30 minutes of other filler, Jewel performed. I'm sure someone out there was giving her the evil glare. The results after the jump.

After the continued rumors of Jewel pulling out of the competition,
it's confirmed. But there's worse news: Nancy O'Dell is dropping out as well. O'Dell tore her meniscus, while Jewel suffered from tibia fractures.
I'm not sure if the professionals are pushing the performers too hard or if casting doesn't do physicals for these celebrities. Twisting an ankle during the competition is one thing, but having a pre-existing condition is another. I even thought that casting Toni Braxton last season was in bad taste, but the dancing actually helped her heart condition.

This is probably only logical, since Macs are all you see on TV shows when a character owns a computer: Apple co-founder
Steve Wozniak is going to be on Dancing with the Stars.
You would think from the comments at the link above that past seasons have had stars like Tom Cruise and Meryl Streep on the show. They think the entire cast for this new season is disappointing, a bunch of nobodies. Hey, Wozniak pretty much invented the home computer industry! And I would say that Denise Richards, David Alan Grier, Jewel, and Lil' Kim are pretty well known. There are always some unknowns or fringe celebs in the cast too (though not always
the ones we want to see).
I don't watch the show, but as a Mac user I kinda have to tune in at least once to see how Woz does. This is the second time that Woz will find himself in the reality-show spotlight (I know,
DWTS is more of a competition show). He dated
My Life on the D-List star Kathy Griffin not too long ago. I wonder if Steve Jobs will be watching?

Can we all agree that if you're a TV, film, or music star and you are reduced to going on a show called Celebirty Bull Riding, your career has pretty much at its lowest point?
It's Ty Murray's Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge, to be precise, and it premieres tonight at 9 on CMT. The celebs (or "celebs") involved in the six episode show include Leif Garrett, Stephen Baldwin, Vanilla Ice, and Johnny Fairplay from Survivor (the one who lied about his grandmother dying). The object of the show is for the gentlemen to learn how to rides bulls so they can participate in a rodeo in Nashville.

You might think that Kelly Clarkson has it all. With two Grammy awards, five #1 singles, and over ten million copies of her latest record sold, what more could she ask for? Well, a "NASCAR. How bad have you got it?" commercial of course. The spot is part of a big deal the two have signed.
The relationship kicks off February 18th with Clarkson headlining the NEXTEL Tribute To America, live on Fox, before the Daytona 500. The commercial will combine race footage with Clarkson's performance and feature a song from her upcoming third album. She's in good company working with NASCAR. Other musicians that have been part of the promo series include Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jewel, Lenny Kravitz, Leann Rimes, and Sheryl Crow.

American Idol always provides some interesting and inspiring back-stories on some of the more unusual and/or "unique" contestants during the audition episodes. But if you're like me, you might also hunger for more information on some of those who don't merit an individual
AI spotlight. Don't you wonder, "Who are these people? And what rock did they crawl out from under?"
Folks you're in luck, because Eric over at
Death by Camera has done a little legwork and compiled a list of links to the MySpace pages for last night's rejected and accepted Minneapolis contestants. Dying to know more about
The Juggler, The Jewel-Wannabe, or
The Cowardly Lion Girl? Then

(S06E01) At 8:00 PM, I sat down with my Diet Coke, set the DVR, and got ready to take notes for my first ever
American Idol Reviewcap. At 10:00 PM, I realized that my DVR didn't record one fricking minute. Not a good start. Good thing I took extensive notes during the show.
Season Six began with a stirring intro by Ryan Seacrest, making me realize that
AI employs some pretty good writers. After highlighting past
Idol successes and reviewing last year's Grand Finale show with Prince (Minneapolis was chosen because it's Prince's hometown), we were ready for the auditions.

(
S01E09) First of all, let's all give ABC three cheers for finally giving
Men in Trees a decent time slot. Actually, it's a pretty terrific time slot-- directly after
Grey's Anatomy, which had more than 13 million viewers last week. That's the highest rated show on television right now and it's going to be a lead-in for
Men in Trees. Spectacular! ABC has also picked up a full season of
Men in Trees. It's funny, really. ABC originally scheduled
Ugly Betty and
Men in Trees for Friday nights and now they're both on the biggest night of television.

Singer Jewel is the next in the revolving door of celebrities who take on hosting duties for
Nashville Star. Last season, it was Wynonna and Cowboy Troy (he's returning as co-host), and before that it was Leann Rhimes and Nancy ODell. Even though I swear she had
gone pop, the press release from USA says Jewel grew up on country music so I guess that's all it takes. Plus she's a songwriter and musician just like the contestants on
Nashville Star are supposed to be. It's an interesting career move, anyway.
Season 5 of
Nashville Star premieres on Thursday, January 11th at 10 pm on USA.
