I had a nice laugh at the inclusion of Principal Vernon from The Breakfast Club and Senator William Wonka (that scene from Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory always cracks me up, for some reason). California's Barbara Boxer seemed to imply that a huge reason why Rice fails to see the trouble we're in is because she doesn't have any children. Jon decided to take one for the team and seduce Rice... Yes. All for the good of our nation. The mood lighting! The music! The huge book of Russian history! So hot. South Park season eight on DVD August 29
South Park has been doing a fine job of getting the season sets out in a timely manner, and on August 29 the eighth season will be available. Some of the episodes, such as "Awesom-O" and "Stupid Spoiled Whore Video Playset" are already available on the recent "best of" DVD, but this season also had some other great episodes, such as "The Passion of the Jew," "Good Times with Weapons" (in which Butters is accidentally hit in the eye with a ninja star so the boy's dress him up as a dog and take him to a vet), "Something Wall-Mart This Way Comes," and, possibly the best South Park Christmas episode ever, "Woodland Critter Christmas." debate with a kid half his age, and then later smoothed things over with the kid. Now Rogan
may be courting controversy again with this fifty-page
thread on his messageboard. The thread wasn't started by Rogan; it was actually started by a board member who found
out that another board member, whom he disliked, was part of a support group for obese people. Apparently this was the
culmination of an ongoing battle of wits among the members of the board, and like most messageboards, conversation
eventually devolved into personal attacks and racist insults. This kind of behavior
on messageboards is hardly news, but apparently Rogan decided to toss in his support for the thread, even adding a few insults of his own. Rogan
apparently loves the raw and unfiltered power of the internet, even if his participation in it might be construed
by some as indirectly supporting anti-Semitic sentiments.

Oprah's book club: a Holocaust memoir
It looks as though Oprah Winfrey has been browsing the nonfiction aisles of the bookstore. While the authenticity of
her last Oprah's Book Club selection is still in question, she has moved
on to assign her faithful readers another memoir: Night, by Elie Wiesel. You may recognize his name for the
Nobel Peace Prize he won in 1986 for decades of writing against hatred and racism. Wiesel's first novel (he calls it a
memoir) chronicles his family's experience in Auschwitz during the Holocaust. Oprah said the book "should be
required reading for all of humanity." Next month, Oprah will also hold a high school essay contest about the
book, in which 50 selected writers will be flown to Chicago to be part of the audience when Wiesel is a guest. She will
also visit Auschwitz with Wiesel, which should make for one very powerful hour of television.
