Watch Katie Couric do nothing for 87 seconds - VIDEO

Katie CouricThis is pretty funny. Seems that The CBS Evening News had some technical difficulties the other night. Not only did the video not work on a story, but they actually had to end the show a couple of minutes early.

First we see Katie draaaaaaag onnnnnn her tease for tomorrow and her goodbye (seriously, she seems to be talking in slow motion, trying to stretch things out), and then we see the typical camera shot of her standing in front of her desk shuffling papers in her hand. But this time, after the credits end, we see her stand there. And stand there. And stand there. And stand there. And then there's a weird commercial that seems to be a tech glitch too, and after that it goes back to Katie standing there for a really long time, with the camera sweeping in and out majestically. It's very odd. I would have loved to have heard the conversation between Katie and the people behind the scenes when the show ended.

If there's one good thing to come out of this is that we finally get to hear the full version of James Horner's new theme song for the show. Video after the jump.

The Five: a second look at Katie Couric

So, how did Katie Couric do on the CBS Evening News?

Katie Couric - CBS Evening News

As expected, Katie Couric didn't drastically change how the networks do the nightly news, though there were a few interesting tweaks and one major scoop.

Couric has been saying that she wants to go deeper into the news headlines, and she seems to be doing that, by having more than one guest come on during a story about the war. At the same time, there seems to be less stories covered in the half hour than there used to be. And, of course, the web is going to play a big part in the program. The broadcast is the very first to be simulcast on the web live, and Couric is keeping a blog. Well, she started it. Looks like "CBS & Co." will be contributing, which probably means that Couric won't do much at all and other staff members and reporters will do most of the blogging.
