Holiday loot spending guide: Books

Hello, Lied The AgentLike a lot of people, I'll be out there today spending cash and gift cards I got yesterday. There are a lot of TV-oriented books released every year, and many of them are quite good. Some of them are downright terrible (*cough* TWOP *cough*), but let's focus on the good ones. Below is a list of 10 great TV books to give the TV addict in your family.

1. Hello, Lied The Agent, by Ian Gurvitz: Excellent behind-the-scenes look at how the TV industry works, from a writer/producer of such shows as Wings, Becker, and Get A Life. He talks about the dos and don'ts for Hollywood writers, pitch meetings, cancellations, shows the journal he kept a few years ago, and even talks about the new shows that have debuted in the past couple of years. Very informative and just really, really funny.

A whole bunch of Amy Sedaris goodness

Amy SedarisI'm not one to buy books about crafts and home decorating or entertaining. Oh, I'll buy recipe books of course, but not those Martha Stewart ones where she not only tells you how to make an appetizer, but also how to build the tray it's served on, the table you put them on, and maybe even how to decorate the room you're serving them in. Having said that, I'm buying Amy Sedaris' new book, I Like You: Hospitality Under The Influence the moment I get through typing this.

It's a book of recipes and crafty type things, but written and presented in a very Amy Sedaris type of way. Amy Sedaris Rocks has all the details, including an interview, some recipes from the book, pictures, an audio sample, and news on the book tour. Alas, she's not coming to the Boston area. I guess I can take a plane to see her in Minnesota. Right, Adam?

Sedaris will also be on Letterman this Friday night.

It's Amy Sedaris Day!

Amy SedarisSo regular readers of TV Squad and my personal blog know that I have a love for Amy Sedaris. And it's not a crush or stalking, it's a mature, serious, dinner-and-a-movie type of love. Sure, Adam and Joel will say they love her too, but their love isn't real (plus I hear Joel's wanted in five states and Adam always forgets to put the toilet seat down, if you're reading this Amy). So I'm excited to see that Amy will be on The Late Show With David Letterman tonight.

But that's not all! Amy also has a podcast interview today over at Salon. Among other topics, she talks about why she likes ugly people and misfits.
