The History Channel has gained the nickname "The Hitler Channel" among some I know for its constant airing of World War II specials (many of featuring, well, Hitler). Perhaps they were thinking of that reputation when they put together their new slate of specials, which, according to
Broadcasting & Cable, includes
specials hosted by Jon Stewart and Lewis Black of
The Daily Show.
Stewart will be given two hours with which to target the immigration issue in a special called
The Naturalized. Considering the current economic implications of immigration and its role in last year's presidential campaign, there should be plenty for Stewart to work with to keep the special current. Stewart has already begun work on it, according to
B&C. The special will follow eight people on the track to becoming U.S. citizens. the special will air in the fourth quarter of 2009.

What do you get the man who has everything?
CBS is running their "CBS Cares" PSAs, and
the new ones are quite...something. You've probably seen them. One of them features a bunch of women talking about what to get their husbands for Hanukkah. I think a lot of guys would like a Nintendo WII, but a woman suggests a prostate exam! And no, it's not some sort of sexual foreplay, they're actually talking about making an appointment with the doctor for the guys to have a prostate exam (
"honey, wait, you're not talking about role-playing?"). There's a PSA for prostate-exams-as-Christmas-gifts too, because even people who aren't Jewish need them.

Every year, Oprah Winfrey has her "Favorite Things" episode around the holidays. This year's edition will air next Wednesday, November 26. This time though,
her gift suggestions will be a little more affordable.
Because of the hurting economy, Oprah has decided that her list of favorite things this year will showcase more affordable items, some that cost next to nothing (not sure what exactly "next to nothing" really means). In fact, Oprah is going to unveil one special gift that costs
zero dollars. Not sure what she means by that, but I'm guessing that gift will be something like a hug or good thoughts.

I hate when this happens.
You're all set to watch something, and you don't even set your DVR or your VCR or any other recording device you might have because you've known about the show for weeks and weeks and you plan to watch this particular episode because you watch the show all the time anyway. And then the day comes and you either oversleep or you're busy doing something else or it just slips your mind for some reason and you miss it.
That's what happened to me this morning.

TiVo is offering up a few pre-holiday specials. First up, if you buy a new TiVo between now and Feb 2, you get a discount on monthly or annual subscriptions:
- The $16.95 monthly fee drops to $12.95
- Get a year of service for $129 instead of $179
- Pay $249 for two years instead of $279
- A 3 year service contract will cost you $299, which is the same price the company's charging now
If you're already a TiVo customer, you don't qualify for any of those discounts. But the company is bringing back product lifetime service option. $399 will get you all the electronic program guide updates you could want. You know, until you decide to upgrade to the TiVo Series4.

Not even Christmas is safe from reality show producers.
The people who brought you Dancing with the Stars have another show up their sleeves: Clash of the Choirs. It will pit five celebrity singers who will go back to their hometowns and try to build a choir. Once the choirs are built and perform live, viewers will vote for them via phone (of course). The winner gets to pick a prize for their hometown (I suggest maybe passing a law that says no reality shows can be filmed in their hometowns). The four episode show will run just before Christmas, December 17-20.

(S02E10) I was basically a good kid, so during the Christmas season I didn't fret too much about upsetting my parents and not getting presents. I did worry about Santa, though, a fictional being I believed in slightly longer than most kids. What was interesting about this episode is that the "real" Santa is never referred to. I don't know if this was for plot convenience, or because Chris' family was more realistic about what the kids could and could not get for Christmas.

I know, I know, it's a bit early to be thinking about Christmas, but the ever-diligent
Muppet News Flash is reporting that a brand new Muppet Christmas album will be out on October 17. The album, titled, "A Green and Red Christmas" will feature twelve holiday songs, and is retailing for about ten bucks, which is a pretty good bargain. I wonder though, what makes them think they'll ever be able to top the Christmas album the Muppets made with John Denver, possibly the greatest Christmas album of all time next to Vince Guaraldi's soundtrack for
A Charlie Brown Christmas? Not to mention the John Denver album is only
$5.98 on Amazon. I'm just sayin'.

All you've got is hours left. Everyone else planned ahead, bought their gifts... probably even wrapped
them already. And what are you doing? Sitting here reading this post. Nice job. So what are you going to do? Fight the
crowds, scour the many picked over store shelves? There's not going to be much left. It happens to the best of us, and
I should know because I plan on doing most of my shopping after I finish writing this. So what's going to be left? Not
much, but here's a few things you might be lucky to find sitting next to the empty spaces where Lost Season 1
DVDs and SpongeBob memorabilia used to rest.
Now as I said, you're going to be lucky if these items are still around especially because I'm probably going to
scoop them up before you. Honestly though, everyone wants these... I'm telling you, that Munsters calendar?
This year's "Tickle me Elmo."
