Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.
Finally, season 4 of
Alfred Hitchcock Presents is on DVD. I say finally because this season contains one of my favorite episodes of any TV series ever, "Man with a Problem," with Elizabeth Montgomery, Gary Merrill, and Peter Mark Richman. It has a great twist ending (
you can watch it here). I have to start buying this show on DVD.
The
Golden Age of Television DVD is a Criterion Collection set and includes some great live TV episodes, including "Marty," "Days of Wine and Roses," "The Comedian," "Requiem for a Heavyweight," "No Time For Sergeants," "A Wind from the South," and "Bang The Drum Slowly." Also comes with extensive commentaries and interviews and a booklet.

I admit there's nothing topical about a post on
Hogan's Heroes, but any day is a good day to sit and wonder how this show got on the air.
Don't get me wrong. It's not bad. It boasts its share of laughs and memorable characters. And, it's back on the radar recently because of the comprehensive DVD set,
Hogan's Heroes: The Komplete Series, Kommandant's Kollection.
But I'd give a month's pay from TV Squad (so, like $6.50) if I could build a time machine, change myself into a fly, stick myself to a wall in the network offices of CBS, and hear the pitch meeting for this show. I know it's not likely to happen, but there's no harm in dreaming.

It's time for another TV list! Everybody loves lists, right? This one has
AOL picking the best TV shows of the 1960s.
As usual, it's a list that will get the debate going. Shows that without a doubt deserve to be on the list:
The Twilight Zone,
The Dick Van Dyke Show,
Star Trek,
The Andy Griffith Show,
I Spy, and
Bewitched.
Shows that without a doubt don't belong on the list:
The Flying Nun,
Hogan's Heroes, and
The Mod Squad. Sure, I enjoyed those shows when I was younger, but I really don't think they belong in the "best" category (I'll let you debate another show on the list,
Batman - great or just "campy" great?)

My family often watches TV during the dinner hour. There, I've said it. I'm not proud of that fact, but there you have it. We also force the kids to take 2-hour nature walks with us every weekend, so maybe it all evens out in the end.
Our favorite channel during the dinner hour is TV Land. In our neck of the woods,
Hogan's Heroes airs from 6 to 7 p.m., and
The Andy Griffith Show from 7 to 8 p.m. We love both these shows, and the episodes always spark laughter and a few discussion topics. Like, how could Colonel Klink be such a dimwit, and why can't more people be like Andy Taylor?
But we might have to start watching the Discovery or History channels or - gasp! - turn the TV off altogether, because the commercials on TV Land are making us gag on our organic mac-and-cheese. I'm talking about the commercials for TV Land's reality shows,
High School Reunion and
The Cougar.
