(S13E08) I don't know how America's Next Top Model's photoshoots continue to grow more and more insane. This week, Tyra decided to turn the model hopefuls bi-racial. Surprisingly, the photos didn't turn out bad, just not model-like.
You know it's never good when a boring character gets a character. The mathematician Brittany caught the bitch bug and complained about how immature Erin was for the rest of the episode. Guess what happened at the end of the episode? I would rather have gotten the "fading away" edit that Tyra loves so much.
We've seen TV show/movie mashup videos before, but this one is rather brilliant. It's the Star Wars movies done as the opening to Magnum, P.I. They didn't just find a few scenes that went well with the music, they actually went through the movie and found exact scenes that fit each scene in the Magnum opening. Below is the video. After the jump, the comparison.
Even when your job keeps you surfing online all day and night, you can sometimes miss things. Case in point: this blog that Lost'sJorge Garcia keeps. And it's not one of those celebrity blogs that are either written by someone else and/or updated once a month with news on their latest "project," this is a real blog. Today he talks about how he spent his birthday (and it doesn't involve an iPod toilet paper holder).
This could be a fun way to kill time while we wait for the final season of the show.
Despite the fact that news about Lost's 100th episode celebratory cake has been bouncing around the 'net since February, I thought it might be worth mentioning it again since the milestone episode ("The Variable", S05E14) airs next Wednesday, 4/29.
As you can see, the cake, created by Duff Goldman and his crew from Food Network's Ace of Cakes, features a ton of characters from the show as well as some iconic items that all Lost fans will recognize. To drum up some buzz for "The Variable," ABC recently released some more pictures from the cast party where the cake was presented.
Bravo's top-rated and highly acclaimed reality food show, Top Chef, has big plans for the fifth season. Like real estate, it's all about location, location, location and Top Chef has chosen a most unique place, somewhere you might not guess in a game of 20 questions. I'm not going to reveal the place until after the jump, because there may be some of you out there that want to be surprised.
Just to recap, Top Chef has already spent seasons in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Miami and Chicago. They've also had special episodes and finales in Napa Valley, Las Vegas, Hawaii and Aspen and San Juan, Puerto Rico. Traveling to interesting and even exotic locales is part of the fun, giving the contestants a chance to incorporate the regional foods and the style of that part of the world.
Okay, if the suspense is getting to you -- I know it is -- go to the jump and see where season five of Top Chef is going to be...
Don't be surprised if Jin dies this season on Lost. That's what happened when two other actors on the show got DUIs (although, the producers swear their deaths were not related to their off-set antics).
This time, Daniel Dae Kim got the DUI. He was arrested early Thursday by Honolulu police, taken into custody, then released on bail. Kim joins the ranks of Cynthia Watros, who played Libby, and Michelle Rodriguez, who played Ana Lucia.
Kristen Bell, formerly of Veronica Mars, was reportedly asked to join the cast of Lost next season as a new, recurring character (one of The Others!). But, Bell has apparently turned down the opportunity to live and work in Hawaii in favor of living and working on Broadway in New York City.
According to TV Guide's Michael Ausiello, Bell will take over the lead role in the Broadway version of Legally Blonde in February. He's putting two-and-two together to come to this conclusion, but it seems pretty logical. She has wanted to do Broadway in the past, but her Veronica Mars schedule would never accommodate it.
This seems like an...interesting...career choice. A role on Lost would boost her visibility with mainstream viewers, while a role on Broadway will only make her visible to those who are into that sort of thing. But, if Broadway's your dream, go for it!
All casting rumors for Lost seem to have been debunked almost as quickly as they spread.
Last week, Isabelle reported on word that Veronica Mars' Kristen Bell and Prison Break's Peter Stormare were being considered for two new recurring roles on Lost. The Stormare rumor got squashed pretty quickly, and today TV Guide's Ausiello is reporting that Kristen Bell won't be joining the cast, either. The reason, he says, is because Bell didn't want to relocate to Hawaii.
Well, shucks. I adore Stormare and would love to see Bell get a gig that'll give her a wider audience.
This morning, ABC announced that Lostwill get three more seasons, but only 48 more episodes. That means each season will have only 16 episodes, as opposed to the traditional, full-season run of 22-23 episodes. Executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof have agreed to stick around for the final three seasons and guide the show to the ending that they want. (Each guy is reportedly getting an 8-figure deal to stick around) Of course, nothing is being said about which actors will be on the show that long.
This new end point pushes about 20 more episodes out of Cuse and Lindelof than they had hoped. Last January, the producers said they saw the show wrapping up at about episode 100, but the new deal pushes Lost's entire run to 120 episodes.
Lost fans, are you willing to wait three more years for answers? Seems like a long time...
(S11E13) Ahhh... I really was rooting for the Beauty Queens! I think they were really, really bummed about coming in very close second. I wanted to cry with them. I'm not sure what my problem is with Eric & Danielle. I just felt like they didn't have a whole lot of personality, unlike the other teams in the top three. I feel like they pout a lot.
Hawaiian singer Don Ho, whose most famous song was "Tiny Bubbles," died yesterday morning in Honolulu of a heart attack. Ho had several heart problems in recent years, had a pacemaker installed, and had experimental surgery done in Thailand two years ago. He performed right up until the end, with his last show this past Thursday.
Ho hosted his own variety show, appropriately titled The Don Ho Show, on ABC in 1976-77. He made appearances on several TV shows, including McCloud and Hawaiian Eye, but most of the time he appeared as himself, in shows like The Brady Bunch, Charlie's Angels, One West Waikiki, Fantasy Island, Sanford and Son, The Fall Guy, Life Goes On, Batman, and I Dream of Jeannie.
I think it used to be a law that every TV show had to film at least one episode on location in Hawaii, and if they did, Ho guest starred.
Here's a vacation idea that will have your family planning an intervention and your internet friends jealous: Go to Hawaii. But, don't just go to the beach. Follow the Lost trail. You can visit most Hawaiian filming locations for Lost, thanks to this nifty little website created by some uber-fans.
For example, check out Hurley's golf course from Season 1 Episode 9. The fans are nice enough to take a whole slew of photos, and compare them to screen grabs from various episodes to prove that, yes, they did find the spot. They also write up a little bit about the location and about other films that were made there (Pearl Harbor, Jurassic Park and Godzilla share settings), as well as directions to the spot. Other cool locations include the place where Ana Lucia killed Goodwin, the rickety bridge in "Numbers", the waterfall where Michael goes after Walt, and the beach where Kate strips down to her bra and undies. You can search by episode or by geographical location. The guys behind the website have done a heck of a lot of scouting around and really know their episodes in order to take the photos they take. I dare you not to waste an entire afternoon on Lost Virtual Tour!
TV Squad reader Kat Griffith asks us this interesting question:
I am trying to find a list of TV shows that have geographic names in their titles, I know of a few but was wondering if there is a list of shows out there somewhere.
Kat, we spent many hours on Google trying to find such a list, but no luck. However, if you are interested in a list of TV show settings you may want to order a copy of TV Land: A Guide to America's Television Shrines, Sets, and Sites, which is available for sale on amazon.com.
But, you're not looking for that type of information. So, as a public service to you, and our other rabid readers, here is a list of geographically-named shows that was compiled by the equally rabid staff of TV Squad writers. The list can be found after the jump.
Evangeline Lilly's rental home is a total loss. A fire gutted her home early Wednesday morning in Kailua, Hawaii. Luckily, neither Evangeline nor her two roommates were at home. Evangeline was already on the set for her last day of shooting Lost before the Christmas break.
According to newspaper reports in Hawaii, neighbors heard "electrical popping sounds" just before seven this morning. Then they saw flames and the fire quickly engulfed the entire house before firefighters arrived. One neighbor even rushed into the house to see if anyone was inside, but was pushed back by black smoke (the black smoke?).
That just plain sucks. I hope A) she had insurance and B) she didn't lose anything important. I'm sure people in Hawaii are lining up to offer her a place to sleep!
U.S. Navy Lieutenant Andy Baldwin, 30, is the next contestant on The Bachelor. It is a game show of sorts, right? For the gals who like men in uniforms, Baldwin is an "undersea medical officer for a special operations dive unit" stationed in Hawaii. Reading the press release that ABC sent us, I'm shocked that he's not taken. He probably sounds better than he is, but still. The guy saved up $25,000 for college, did his undergrad at Duke and went to medical school in California. He's a tri-athlete who competes in honor of his uncle, who died of pancreatic cancer. ABC is all excited about this new guy, dubbing the season "An Officer and a Gentleman". Sorry, no picture yet.
Maybe he's just looking for a girl who can keep up with him. Hopefully they'll cast some athletic women and not just all wanna-be princesses. We'll meet Andy on the 10th season of The Bachelor on ABC next spring.
