Anyone who's followed the NFL over the last fifteen years knew what Michael Strahan's plans were going to be after retirement: TV, TV and more TV. It was a given; during most of his career with the Giants, Strahan loved to be in front of the camera, and often did commentary and studio gigs on his off-weeks or during the playoffs.
Now, with a Super Bowl ring in-hand, the newly-retired defensive end is making his move. Not only has
he joined the FOX NFL pregame show, but he also just completed filming
a cameo on the NBC geek adventure comedy Chuck. He plays Mitt, the manager of the sporting goods store that's in the same shopping center as Buy More, the store where Chuck works. He and his crew take over the home theater portion of the store during lunchtimes, playing
Madden '09 and making a mess. My guess is that we'll set up a geeks vs. jocks scenario with retail being the venue, instead of the locker room.

I'm not really sure how to process this news: according to Kristin Dos Santos of E! Online,
Britney Spears will guest on an episode of How I Met Your Mother. Dos Santos got the word directly from the show's reps at Fox and from a rep for
HIMYM show-runners Carter Bays and Craig Thomas, so the information seems to be solid.
The role Britney will likely play is Abby, a girl who works in a doctor's office Ted will frequent (I'm guessing it's the offices of the doctor
that will be played by Alicia Silverstone). Abby is supposed to be "sweet and friendly and scattered and a little nerdy-a female Michael Cera." I'm sure Michael Cera would be thrilled to hear that. Anyway, Britney is scheduled to appear on the show's 14th episode, which is only three episodes into its post-strike comeback (which starts on Monday March 17 at 8:30 ET).

A familiar face will be popping up at Seattle Grace before
Grey's Anatomy goes on hiatus at the end of the season. Kate Walsh, a.k.a. Addison Montgomery, M.D., will return to the medical drama when her character makes a visit to the Emerald City. It'll be for just one episode, though. ABC has already picked up Kate's spin-off series,
Private Practice, for the fall.
Executive producer/writer Shonda Rhimes confirmed that
Kate Walsh will return to Grey's Anatomy for a guest bit this spring, but a definite date has not been pinned down. Five new episodes of
GA are set to air starting April 24.

Well-read indie rockers the Decemberists, whose guitarist, Chris Funk, faced off against Stephen Colbert in an epic guitar battle that made that whole "Devil Went Down to Georgia" confrontation look like two little girls fighting over the last candy bar, are getting a bit of exposure again on Comedy Central.
This time, it's lead singer Colin Meloy, who will appear on an episode of L'il Bush voicing an "un-dumbed" Jeb Bush. I've placed a clip from the episode below.

That's Dirty Sexy Money, an upcoming drama on ABC, just to clarify. I didn't want you to think the U.S. Mint was printing up a new type of currency with Dan Rather on the bill in place of one of the presidents.
Although, that would be interesting. "Give me seven quaraters and two pennies for a Rather," you would say. The Rather would be worth $1.77 for some reason.

Sorry, gang, I've been away for awhile so everyone stand back while I dump a big pile of casting news all over the floor (try not to get any on you):
John Michael Higgins will star in the new ABC comedy pilot The Thick of It, and by "new" I mean it's yet another remake of a British sitcom. It's being helmed by Arrested Development creator and will also star Oliver Platt, Alex Borstein (Family Guy) and Michael McKean. The pilot is being directed by Christopher Guest.
Also, on ABC, Mark Moses of Desperate Housewives has joined a comedy pilot as a senator whose daughter (Michelle Trachtenberg) falls in love with a staff member (Eric Christian Olsen) of his rival.

It will all happen on February 22: Oprah, the most powerful woman in the known universe, will share the small screen with Ellen DeGeneres, the funniest woman in the universe with the name "Ellen DeGeneres," when Ms. Winfrey appears on The Ellen DeGeneres Show for the first time.
I'm here to tell everyone that we cannot allow this to happen.

Say what you want about Bill O'Reilly (and I know you will), but the man has no qualms about stepping into the ring with those who disagree with him. He's appeared on both The Daily Show and Late Show with David Letterman, so why would he be shy about appearing on The Colbert Report, a show that, in many ways, owes its existence, or at the very least, its aesthetic, to The O'Reilly Factor? I've said here before I actually liked O'Reilly before his ego outgrew him, but I still love to watch his appearances on Letterman. As annoyed as Dave seems when O'Reilly is on, you know deep down he revels in those confrontational moments.

I knew I wasn't seeing things when I saw a promo for this during
The Price is Right last week:
On Friday, Betty White will be
starting a guest stint on the CBS soap
The Bold and the Beautiful, playing Ann Douglas, the long-lost mother of Stephanie Forrester (Susan Flannery). Yes,
that Betty White; the Betty White of
Golden Girls, Mary Tyler Moore, Match Game, Password,
Boston Legal and many, many other shows throughout TV history.

Actress and singer Rita Moreno, who has won every major entertainment award in the industry, is returning to television as the mother of Robert Goren (Vincent D'Onofrio) on
Law and Order: Criminal Intent. I fondly remember Moreno from
The Electric Company, but recently she's appeared on television in guest roles on other
Law and Order series
SVU and
Trial By Jury, and also played Sister Peter Marie on the HBO series
Oz. No word on whether her role will involve a lot of singing and dancing and teaching the detectives on the series about words and spelling, though if any writers for the series are reading this, feel free to use that suggestion.

According to David Boreanaz's Bones blog, actor David Duchovny will be directing an upcoming episode of Bones. The crew had just finished taping the episode "Aliens in a Spaceship," and Boreanaz writes that Duchovny will be directing the "next episode" which is listed as "The Headless Witch in the Woods," an episode that currently has no specific airdate at the moment. Boreanz also writes that Duchovny may appear in a future episode. Duchovny has been absent from television for awhile now as he ventures further into his film career, so if you've been anxiously waiting to see him on television again, this is your chance. Duchovny last appeared on TV in an episode of Sex and the City in 2003.

The lovely and hilarious Amy Sedaris will be playing a role on the October 12 episode of
My Name if Earl as a love interest for Randy. Amy will play Judy, a woman who loves cats. This turns out to be somewhat of an obstacle for Randy because he's allergic to felines. Meanwhile, Earl tries to return a prize cat to Judy after sabotaging a cat show to help Joy. I personally never watch
My Name is Earl, though I did watch it a bit when it first aired, and even though network sitcoms ain't m' thang I'll contend it was better than most of what's out there. Being an Amy fan, though, I just might have to tune in for this episode. Who knows, maybe I'll get drawn back into the show again.

Jerry Seinfeld will be appearing on the October 21 episode of
TalkShow with Spike Feresten. Of course, TV Squad readers should already know that, since Spike himself told
Joel back in September. He told Joel he wanted Seinfeld to host his own segment of the program, but the
Zap2It article only says that Seinfeld is set to do some new stand-up material and sit down for an interview. Whatever ends up happening, it should be a great night. Seinfeld does pop up on TV now and again, but not very often, so anything featuring him is always nice to see. The show airs Saturdays at midnight on FOX.

Isn't it always interesting to learn who's going to guest star on your favorite show? I definitely like reading these press releases, mainly because I like hearing how some sort of high-profile guest is going to affect the chemistry of an established ensemble. It's especially important with sitcoms, because you never know if the guest's comic ability (if they have any) will mesh well with that of the show's cast.
But I don't think I'm going to have anything to worry about when Jane Seymour and Bryan Cranston guest on the Oct. 25th episode of
How I Met Your Mother. According to this
press release, Seymour plays a law professor of Marshall's that Barney hits on to help his buddy get better grades, and Cranston plays Ted's crappy boss. Seeing these two veterans with the younger (but no less experienced) cast should make for a pretty funny episode.

After you've read
Mike's review of the second season premiere of
Weeds, you should check out
this review by Steve Bloom, editor-at-large of
High Times. I suppose if anyone can talk about the show with any authority, it would be someone who works for a magazine devoted completely to marijuana and marijuana culture (though I've never been impressed with the mag itself, which rarely has anything new to say on its single topic). Bloom wrote the guest piece for the blog BC Beat, the online companion to
Broadcasting and Cable. Unfortunately, I don't have Showtime, so I haven't had the pleasure of watching the show, but it sounds like something I would enjoy. I have thought about checking it out on iTunes, however. What do you guys think? Is it worth slapping down a bit of cash?
