Topps releases Hollywood Zombie cards

hollywood zombiesRemember Garbage Pail Kids, those gross little trading cards featuring such classic characters as Shaggy Aggie and Eaten Ethan, among many, many others?

Well, if you loved those icky little kids, you might also like a new series from Topps called Hollywood Zombies. The cards are probably a little too sick for some tastes, but they were designed by some truly amazing artists, including Jay Lynch, Mark Stutzman and many others.

People want their pancakes and sausage on a stick

pancake on a stickIf you caught Thursday's Daily Show, you saw host Jon Stewart mock the Jimmy Dean/Sara Lee breakfast treat that provides a sausage wrapped in a chocolate chip pancake and skewered on a convenient wooden stick. While I think that particular breakfast item belongs in the pharmacy section as an ipecac to induce vomiting in case you accidentally ingest poison rather than in the freezer section next to the Eggo toaster waffles, Chicago-based Sara Lee said they received calls and e-mails asking where they could find the snack. Apparently people will listen to Jon Stewart when he attacks the current administration, but they prefer to make up their own mind when it comes to what pancake-wrapped meat they shove down their gullet. Stewart may have inadvertently kicked off a whole new trend of complete meals on a stick: I imagine we can expect to see a block of cheese wrapped in bologna and bread with a mayonnaise dipping cup soon, as well as a giant meatball wound in spaghetti.

Frisky Dingo: Meet Killface (series premiere)

frisky dingo(S01E01) This is an early review.

Adam Reed and Matt Thompson, the brains behind the sorely missed Sealab 2021, just might have another praise worthy series on their hands with Frisky Dingo. The series will focus on a struggle between good and evil as the murderous Killface faces off against super hero Awesome-X. In the premiere episode, we're introduced to Killface, but not Awesome-X, though we do get a glimpse of the mailbox of his alter ego, Xander Crews in the last scene.

The Aristocrats makes its TV debut

aristocratsThat's The Aristocrats as in the movie from Paul Provenza and Penn Jillette, not The Aristocats, the Disney movie. One of those films is incredibly decadent and depraved, while the other is merely about the world's dirtiest joke. The joke has actually been around since vaudeville times, and it is not, in and of itself, a particularly funny joke, but it's definitely a fun joke to tell because it allows for the teller to embellish and stretch the joke out as long as they want. It's been a dirty little secret among comedians for ages. They sit around trying to come up with the grossest, raunchiest version of the gag they can think of, and the movie skips from one comedian to the next as they each put their own unique twist on it. The movie will make its TV debut on HBO this Wednesday, July 26, at 11 p.m.

Horror network will be here by Halloween

night of the living deadSony Pictures and Comcast have teamed up to launch an on-demand network focused on horror films. Being someone who loves horror movies, I was excited about this news initially, but the more you read about it the less exciting this venture seems. The network, which will launch by Halloween and has no name as of yet, will be dedicated mostly to re-airing films from the vaults of Sony and MGM. That's fine and all, but most horror fans probably already own the movies in some capacity anyway. Sony and Comcast are aware of this, so they're hoping to sweeten the deal by doing a multi-platform launch, debuting the channel online at the same time it debuts on television (wireless will come later). The online portion of the new network will feature DVD-like extras for the real horror connoisseurs. One of the proposed wireless additions is "horror ringtones," which could actually be pretty cool. I'd love to have a ringtone of Freddy saying, "I'm your boyfriend now!" a la the first Nightmare on Elm Street. I guess I'm just weird that way.

Easy Mac commercial grosses me out

Easy MacWe don't usually talk about commercials here; AdJab does a fine job of doing that for us. But there is an ad out there for Kraft Easy Mac that's so vile that I need to talk about it in a public forum, just to make myself feel better.

In the ad, a lazy college student is in his recliner, eating something out of a milk carton. Cereal perhaps? Then, a buddy walks over and asks him what he's eating.

"Cottage cheese," says the slovenly student.

"That's a milk carton... cottage cheese doesn't come in a milk carton."

Cut to a close-up of the slob, spoon in one hand, and clumps of "cottage cheese" on his sweater. He contemplates the situation and defeatedly nonchalantly sticks the spoon back in the carton, which generates a small squishing noise.
