Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.
If you loved
The Rockford Files and you own the season sets, you'll probably want to buy Volume 1 of the movies (four in this batch) that is being released tomorrow. They weren't as good as the series, of course (sort of like the
Spenser: For Hire movies that Robert Urich did after that series ended), but they're actually pretty good.
And season 6 of
Kate & Allie is out. That reminds me: I still have to get season 5.
- Afro Samurai - Complete Murder Sessions
- The Clone Wars - Season 1
- Doctor Who - The War Games and The Black Guardian Trilogy
- Edge of Darkness - The Complete BBC Series

I didn't have cable growing up, so I was only able to catch
Fraggle Rock when I was catting around town at all the cool kids' houses. As a long time lover of anything Muppet, I was fascinated by these Fraggles and Doozers and Gorgs, and it all looked just so wonderful. My earliest memory is Junior, a giant Gorg, holding up one of the Fraggles and saying "I caught a Fwaggle!" I thought he was wanting to eat it the way Gargamel tormented the Smurfs.
Way back in 2006, we told you
a Fraggle Rock film was in the works. Now, Brian Henson tells MTV
that a Fraggle Rock movie is inching closer. He also indicated that they're expanding the film "to be more accessible to a wider audience." I recently had the opportunity to watch
Fraggle Rock, and while it did touch my nostalgia button, I can see where Henson's coming from here.

It's hard to believe the live-action-meets-puppeteering sci-fi series
Farscape is a decade old, but that's the occasion that brought Brian Henson and stars of the show to
Comic-Con International Friday to announce a new complete series DVD set.
As unveiled to a full, if partially groggy Comic-Con crowd during one of the day's first events, the DVD collection will include every episode of the show, more than 90 minutes of extra footage and 29 episode commentaries.
Henson joined series creator Rockne O'Bannon with stars Ben Browder and Claudia Black to unveil the comprehensive set of the show Henson repeatedly referred to during the panel as "psychotically ambitious" because of its mix of live-action, muppet technology, and then-state-of-the-art visual effects.

AOL has chosen the
best TV shows of the 1980s, and it's not a bad list. But I'm sure everyone reading this will have their own thoughts.
Sure, there are shows that were my favorites I'd like to see on the list, but those would be personal choices. The only problem I have is
where the shows place on the list. For example, is
Fraggle Rock really a better show than
Spenser: For Hire,
Miami Vice, and
Kate and Allie (even beyond the fact that it might be an odd show to compare to the other shows in the first place)? Is
Facts of Life better than
MacGyver?

Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.I'm getting that deja vu feeling. Didn't I already list season two of

Get Smart complete series set, only it's for the short-lived 90s series with Andy Dick.

We all know that studios go ga-ga for big screen movies based on TV shows. Even if they tank, there seems to be an unending appetite to bring a beloved (or even semi-beloved) TV show to a theater near you:
The Fugitive,
Charlie's Angels,
Transformers,
The Beverly Hillbillies,
Serenity (
Firefly),
The Simpsons,
South Park,
The Flintstones,
The Jetsons...the list is endless. Now Den of Geek has a list of
23 shows that studios are planning to bring to the big screen.
But this list is really incomplete in so many ways. We've all heard that
Magnum, P.I. might get the movie treatment, but this list only says that Matthew McConaughey might star and doesn't mention other people who have been rumored to have been attached to it in the past, including Ben Affleck and George Clooney.

Whew! After several days of sore feet (and sore booties from sitting on the hard floor waiting for the next panel), dwindling funds, and tons of TV-related panels, San Diego Comic-Con comes to an end. That doesn't mean that all of the television folks have packed up an left in order to catch the Silver Bullet train to Los Angeles (does a train even run between San Diego and Los Angeles?) or an aeroplane to Vancouver. There are still some panels waiting for your utmost attention.
It's Kids' Day at the convention, so there are panels on a Mr. SquarePants, Phineas and Ferb, The Backyardigans, and those wacky Muppets from Fraggle Rock. For the more adult crowd there are Q&As for It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Supernatural, Smallville, and another panel on cartoon voices. The final TV-related event is a rousing sing-a-long with the Buffy the Vampire Slayer episode "Once More With Feeling." After that, you can climb into your hotel bed, train berth, car seat, or nearby street corner resplendent with the fact that you had taken in everything television at the Comic-Con.
So, if you are staying just one more day, here are the television-related events for Sunday, July 27th. For a full schedule of events you can check out the official schedule on the Comic-Con website. And, for old times sake, remember that times, panelists and events can change at a moment's notice. That, and the panels are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

As reported by TUAW,
properties from the Jim Henson Company are available on iTunes. Sadly, this does not include
The Muppet Show, which was sold to Disney in 2004.
Among the shows available are the first seasons of
Fraggle Rock and
Farscape for $1.99 per episode. The article mentions that
Farscape is difficult to find on DVD due to difficulties over home video rights (although it has been released previously).
I remember
Fraggle Rock from my youth and I always enjoyed it. I remember being scared over the episode with the Terrible Tunnel. As I think about it now, I think Mokey Fraggle had the exact same voice as Rizzo the Rat from the Muppets.
So, for those who use iTunes, here is the chance to indulge yourself and purchase the first few seasons. Or, in the case of
Fraggle Rock, you could just
buy the DVD.

Sheesh, I guess I haven't checked out Muppet News Flash in awhile, and wound up missing out on some cool Muppet news.
First, a Fraggle Rock album will hit stores in October. There's pretty much zero information on Fraggle Rockin', except that it will contain music from the series. Amazon doesn't even have an album image. Did I mention it's a three-disc set? That's all kinds of awesome.

Every child of the '80s that had HBO shares an idelible memory from that time period... Shannon Tweed's
breasts from
Hot Dog: The Movie. Somewhat less indelible, but pretty memorable in its own right, was the Jim Henson series
Fraggle Rock. Now
comes word from the folks at the Henson Company that a full-length feature film version is in the works, written and executive produced by none other than Ahmet Zappa.
In the movie, Gobo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red finally leave the underground world of Fraggle Rock and go into what the Hensons call "outer space", otherwise known as the outside world. In fact, they'll actually interact with (gulp) human beings (what are the odds that one of them is going to be Kelly Ripa?). Zappa is involved to not only help write the screenplay, but the music for the movie, as well. No word on a title or release date just yet.

Back in May I relayed
information from Muppet News Flash about the upcoming second season of
Fraggle Rock on DVD. Well, now we have a little more information on the set, which is set to be released on September 5. It looks like the set will include cast and crew interviews, though I'm not sure if those will be the same ones mentioned by Muppeteer Steve Whitmire or not (see other
post). The four-disc set will include all twenty-four episodes from season two, and, perhaps best of all, a tribute to the late
Jerry Juhl, a writer who has worked with the Muppets since the very beginning on shows such as
Sesame Street,
The Muppet Show, the
Muppet movies, and
Fraggle Rock, of course.

Muppet Newsflash, always a great source for Muppet news, is reporting that, yes, there will probably be a movie based on Jim Henson's HBO series
Fraggle Rock, and, yes, Brian Henson will probably be directing it. However, don't expect to see it until 2007 or 2008, and even that's a little iffy. While he admits they're planning on making the movie, Henson also acknowledges he may have jumped the gun in announcing it, since the studio has other projects they're already immersed in, such as the sequel to
The Dark Crystal, titled
The Power of the Dark Crystal. Henson has also said that the Fraggle Rock movie will not be a continuation of the show, but will still focus on the "unchanged" relationships between the characters. In that respect, it doesn't sound like it would be all the different from the Muppet movies.

Dance your cares away, people. The always sexy and always informative
Muppet News Flash has a few rumors about what we might expect in the September 5 release of the second season of
Fraggle Rock. The key word in that last sentence is "rumor," as no official announcement has been made about any of this stuff. Nevertheless, Muppeteer Steve Whitmire (who took over as the voice of Kermit after Jim Henson's death and has worked on pretty much all Muppet ventures, including
Sesame Street) recently spoke to fans in London where, according to Web scuttlebutt, he said the new DVD set may feature interviews with himself and others, and may also include special home movies he shot while working on the set of
Fraggle Rock.
