In case you didn't know, I'm Canadian. That being said, I watch tons and tons of American TV, partially because our main English channels -- CTV and Global, just to name two -- mostly air US shows. And, let's admit it, I enjoy a lot the shows created by my friends south of the border.
Since there are more TV shows produced in the US and because actors can make more money down south, a lot of Canadian actors go to the USA. to work (or try to get work in a US show shot in Vancouver or Toronto). Here I present you with ten Canadian actors currently starring in lead roles in various primetime US TV shows. Did you know these ten actors were not from the US?

Remember last summer, that CBS drama about life in 1976, the music, the fashions, the wife-swapping and key parties? Yes,
Swingtown, the daring drama that flirted with controversial subjects, but was essentially a well-produced soap opera in the tradition of
Knots Landing? Well, after months of no news about the show, we learn today that no news is bad news.
Swingtown has been cancelled.
CBS president Nina Tassler championed the show, but apparently she couldn't save it. At the press tour presentation she talked lovingly about the drama, even patting the network on the back to taking a risk by broadcasting it. But in the end, the good performances, excellent writing, critical approval and cult following it garnered didn't matter.

With all this talk that the fall season not exactly thrilling TV viewers (old shows losing viewers, not many new shows catching on in a big way,
quirky favorites being canceled), it's probably time to start talking about what shows we can expect after the new year, at least from two of the networks.
On
ABC we have
Castle, with Nathan Fillion as a mystery novelist who helps police solve crimes (
of course he does). It starts Monday, March 9 at 10pm. ABC also has
The Unusuals, with Amber Tamblyn as a cop transferred to a new precinct filled with odd characters. It starts Wednesday, April 8 at 10pm. And as we've already told you, the new version of
Cupid is coming to ABC too. It starts on Tuesday, March 24 at 10pm.
The new season of
Lost premieres on Wednesday, January 21 at 9pm, and
Scrubs comes back on Tuesday, January 6 at 9pm.

All right, let me say this up front and without equivocation: if CBS picks up
Flashpoint and cancels
Swingtown, I'm going to be ticked off. I'm not down on
Flashpoint.
As Jane wrote, Flashpoint is a good show. No
24, but solid procedural entertainment. However, when I read that
Canada's CTV has renewed up north and sources say that CBS is close to doing the same, I immediately got my back up.
Why should
Flashpoint get a break while an interesting, quirky and outside-the-box drama like
Swingtown may not? It's disheartening to me that
CBS is searching for a cable network to take Swingtown, while a "safe" crime show like
Flashpoint doesn't have that concern.
