Spike TV hunts for Monster Sharks

sharkIf you're still jonesing for more shark action after the end of the most recent "Shark Week" on the Discovery Channel, Spike TV might be able to whet (and wet) your appetite with The Hunt For: Monster Sharks, a one-hour special airing September 3 at 10:00 p.m.

The special covers the annual Oak Bluffs Monster Shark Tournament in which over 200 boats and 1,000 fishermen compete to see who can capture the largest shark in the waters off Martha's Vineyard.

Frankly, I find the whole thing cruel. Everybody knows sharks, like people, often vacation in Martha's Vineyard. While there, they don't bother people at all, they just drink wine and play cribbage:

Independent Lens: A Fish Story - an early look

Tom Green injured in fishing accident

tom green fishing accidentIt's hard to imagine how someone could get injured while fishing, other than getting a hook in the mouth. But, Tom Green managed to take one nightmare of a fishing trip. The former MTV host and roving reporter for The Tonight Show was fishing on a rocky outcrop in Costa Rica when a huge wave hit him. It pulled him into the ocean and then slammed him back against the rocks. On his website, Green described hitting the wave as "leaning into a freight train". And, when he finally was able to stand, he felt his ribs "clattering" in his chest. *Shudder*

Green ended up breaking two ribs and is currently recovering at his vacation home in Costa Rica.
