film noir-related stories

I'm a very impatient person, but I'm usually pretty patient when it comes to TV shows. I can pretty much wait several days or a week until an episode of one of my favorite shows premieres. But I'll admit that it's cool when networks give viewers a chance to see a new show before it officially debuts.
Here's the
first episode of HBO's Bored To Death, which starts this Sunday. (Some of it might be NSFW.) It's also
on Amazon, iTunes, and also HBO On Demand.

Sometimes a celebrity dies who wasn't just a TV star, they actually had a hand in almost every aspect of television over a very long period of time. We lost two such stars over the weekend.
For example, fans of
NCIS will know Nina Foch (right) from her role as Ducky's mother on the show. But did you know she also starred in several vintage horror movies back as early as the early 40s, such as
Return of the Vampire and
Cry of the Werewolf? She also had the honor of being the very first murder victim on
Columbo, in 1968's
Prescription: Murder (done in by hubby Gene Barry). She also appeared in several other TV shows, such as
Bull,
Just Shoot Me,
Dharma & Greg,
Murder She Wrote,
L.A. Law,
Hunter,
Lou Grant,
Barnaby Jones,
Hawaii Five-0,
That Girl, and a ton of others. She appeared in
Spartacus,
The Ten Commandments,
An American in Paris and others. She was even the associate director on
The Diary of Anne Frank.
Foch passed away in Los Angeles on Friday at age 84.

Of course, every week is a great week to watch Turner Classic Movies. If you're not a regular viewer of TCM, you're really missing out.
But looking over their schedule for tomorrow, I noticed several movies are playing that you really must see, especially if you haven't seen them before. In fact, two of the movies are ones I haven't seen before myself, though I've always wanted to. Many of these movies aren't shown on TV that often, and when they are it's only on TCM, another reason to watch the channel regularly.

(S06E06) I always like the titles for
The Dead Zone: They usually have a double entendre happening, and last night's episode is no exception: Switch for train switches on train tracks, and also for the switch Maggie pulls with the diamond necklace. Johnny helps a beautiful woman get her ticket out of the machine, and therefore ensures his interest in her when he touches her and sees her being thrown from the train.
Maggie is a smart chick and she immediately dismisses Johnny's "I'm psychic," schtick with some pretty apt predictions about other passengers on her own. I thought she read Johnny pretty accurately, too. Of course, she is good at reading people because she is a grifter. She is a female version of Sawyer from
Lost, only much nicer.

Medium's creator Glenn Gordon Caren is finally getting to play out some of the ideas he came up with in his days as a
Moonlighting writer. Remember all the cool, wacky
Moonlighting episodes? The film noir episode. The
Taming of the Shew redo. Turns out Caren had wanted to do an animated episode back in the day. Technology, cost and opportunity have finally aligned to revive the animation idea - this time for
Medium.
Johnny Bravo creator Van Partible has
contributed 2-D animation for the show's two-hour third season premiere to represent the psychic dreams of Allison's daughter Bridgette. The cartoon dreams start out comedic and get increasingly darker when, you know, death nears.
They should dole out all of
Moonlighting's old ideas to any show that needs a jump-start for sweeps week. Now, if only
Medium would take on
Macbeth.
