(S07E07) Charlie Harper engaged has been a pretty big pill to swallow, but the way Two and a Half Men has handled it up to now is to make the engagement open-ended. Like a TV series with no end date. Charlie has adjusted to life as a man with a "ball and chain" as Alan put it. He's been quite good ... for Charlie.

But when the screws are put to our man Charlie, when the future gets a date, well, that's just a bit too much reality for a wild thing like him to handle. That's the set up. For what happened, keep reading after the jump.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Spoilers Anonymous: Housewives, NCIS, and more!

Co-written by Joss' brother Jed (and it wouldn't surprise me if he wrote the music to the episode as well) and Maurissa Tancharoen (both of Doctor Horrible fame), we got the backstory of Sierra and received a major view of how dark the underbelly of the Dollhouse really is.

In another surprise, they redid the graphics for the opening credits and they're better. Does anybody else make up lyrics while listening to the theme or is it just me? If so, what are your lyrics? Mine begins with "This is the Dollhouse. We're in the Dollhouse. I knew you could give me another good episode. And finally a sympathetic side to Britta. So far she's been the annoying, self-righteous blonde that Jeff wants to sleep with for some reason. But that's about all we've seen of her personality. In fact, I couldn't even see why Jeff wanted to get into her pants.

This week, we got to get behind Britta's walls a bit and see her even take her first tentative steps outside of them. Shirley, as the social queen of the show, was right there to help her along the way. And Annie was right there, too, to give Britta the chance to be a shoulder for someone to cry one.

Which brings us to what Jeff's up to this week. I guess it's going to take a really damned long time for Jeff to "grow." Every time he seems to have a moment of self-awareness about his douchebaggery, he turns around the next week and is just as big an ass.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Review: Survivor Samoa - This Is the Man Test

Filed under: OpEd, Survivor, Episode Reviews

(S19E06) Well, this was the most unusual episode of Survivor I've ever seen. I won't get into why it was so unusual until after the jump just in case you've missed all of the hype over the injured castaway in commercials all this week. Bram Stoker is to blame for inventing the concept. However, vampire fans and those that frequent Hot Topic can rejoice because the CW has ordered a full season of the freshman series The Vampire Diaries. This is opposed to the still-struggling revamp of Melrose Place which has only had five additional episodes requested of it.

Between True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and the ever-immortal Buffy the Vampire Slayer (which I still count despite being long off the air), you'd think television has had enough of our fanged friends. Perhaps other series should start involving vampires in order to boost ratings.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Review: Glee - Mash-Up

Filed under: OpEd, Episode Reviews, Reality-Free, Glee

(S01E08) In what might be one of the best episodes of Glee since the premiere, Matthew Morrison was given a true showcase. There was also no Will family drama. Hmm ... is that a coincidence? I don't think so. I clearly have more interest in what Will's doing at McKinley High with the singing and dancing then his marriage.

Mash-ups were on the top of the to-do list. Emma and Ken asked Will for a wedding song mash-up, which was easier said than done when the two songs they wanted were "I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady and Sisqo's "The Thong Song." Fortunately, Will didn't sing the former, just the latter.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Watch your skies for a special V promo

ABC is rolling out a special promotion for the V remake which starts on November 3.

The network is going to send up a skywriting plane to create giant Vs across the sky at 26 different landmarks across the United States. They're not saying where the skywriting will be, but I"m assuming it will be places like the Statue of Liberty, Golden Gate Bridge, and The Grand Canyon. I don't know for sure if those places will be included, but I hope that the network gets the word out to local authorities so the public doesn't have some sort of weird panic when the letters show up in the sky.

ABC might be missing a big opportunity here though. What they should do is contact the Heene family and really send little Falcon into a UFO balloon right next to the skywriting. Every cable network would cover it live for hours.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Review: The Amazing Race - I'm Like Ricky Bobby

Filed under: OpEd, The Amazing Race, Episode Reviews

(S15E05) Once again in the NYC viewing area, The Amazing Race suffered a huge delay in airing due to football. Tonight, it started an hour and fifteen minutes late. And, after all of that, the Jets lost! It's a miracle this show keeps receiving Emmy awards when the CBS Sunday night schedule is so fickle due to every sport under the sun or inside a stadium. Speaking of sports ... who are the Brinkley Tigers on Flight Time's t-shirt? They can't be Christie Brinkley's ex-husbands, can they?

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Forget the Thanksgiving Day Parade; Glee gets a World Series game

Filed under: Sports, Programming, OpEd, Reality-Free, Glee
Take that, NBC! When the word leaked yesterday that the performers from Glee had been uninvited to the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade because the folks at NBC didn't want to give the Fox show a national platform to strut their stuff, plenty of people thought it was a low blow. Well, something else has come along that's just as big a national stage.
(S02E05) "Whether you admit it or not, your life is something of a nightmare." - Bowling Alley Guy to Olivia

For a minute there, I thought maybe we were in a True Blood crossover with the horned guy in the first few minutes of this episode. But no, it was the usual twisty-turny Fringe-isms involving mind control, computer chips and dream states.

And it appears that something many of us assumed had happened to Peter actually did happen -- though with this show, you can never be sure until it all plays out. It wouldn't surprise me if it's something completely different from what I'm assuming it is. All this, and Mysterious Bowling Alley Guy after the jump ...

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Survivor Samoa: Walking on Thin Ice

Filed under: OpEd, Survivor, Episode Reviews

(S19E05) We're into the fifth episode of Survivor and I'm still getting some of the cast mixed up. True, they're mostly on the larger Galu tribe -- the ones who keep winning, yet we only see a focus on a select few. We all know "Good" Russell and Shambo. Did you know that someone named Brett is on the Galu tribe? No. Really, I'm not kidding. He got some airtime tonight. At this point, they could stick in stunt doubles and we wouldn't know the difference!

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Wil Wheaton's episode of The Big Bang Theory looks amazing

Filed under: Celebrities, Casting, Reality-Free, The Big Bang Theory

Wil Wheaton's guest appearance on The Big Bang Theory airs next week, and neither he or CBS has had much to say up to this point about his character. I speculated that he could be a rival for Penny's affection, but it looks as though he may be a rival of a different kind. Actually, one new sitcom is missing from that group.

Kelsey Grammer's Hank isn't getting any love from viewers and it's not getting any love from critics. Ratings aren't that good and the critics don't like it. So Grammer is doing a bunch of interviews for tonight's episode, including this one over at The TV Addict. He promises that tonight's episode is funny -- really! -- and we should all watch it.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

Concerns about last week's House

I always look forward to watching House on Mondays. Since about season two, when I think the show really started to develop its secondary characters, I have been hooked on the writing and amazed at the kind of outlandish plots I would tolerate that I would never be able to pass by on, say, other medical dramas. But I'm looking forward to tonight's episode with a bit of trepidation. And that's because they may have finally found an outlandish plot I can't quite get past.

For those who still have last week's episode on DVR and are likely to write us letters because we spoiled it for you - SPOILER ALERT. Then again, why are you reading something about tonight's episode if you haven't watched last week's episode yet?

There. Consider that fair space between the alert and the actual spoiler info. From here on out, you have no one to blame but yourself.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

The Amazing Race: Sean Penn Cambodia Here We Come

Filed under: OpEd, The Amazing Race, Episode Reviews

(S15E04) You'll have to bear with me tonight. You see, I'm cranky. Yes, I'm cranky about tonight's episode of The Amazing Race. Perhaps I'd be a bit less cranky had the show started anywhere near on time. No, it's a Sunday show and here in the NYC viewing area, any sport played during the day can run over and delay the entire Sunday evening primetime line-up. On a night like tonight, delayed 45 minutes, it wreaks havoc with other shows I'd like to watch and my review writing time. But that's not the only reason I'm cranky.

Permalink | Email this | | Comments

What I like about the new season (so far)

Filed under: Other Comedy Shows, OpEd, Reality-Free, FlashForward

There are still a couple of new shows that haven't premiered yet, including two I'm really looking forward to, ABC's new version of V and FOX's new version of The Human Target (I know, I'm actually looking forward to two remakes). But they're not going to premiere until November and January, respectively, so here are my picks for the three new shows that I'm truly enjoying so far this new season. And somehow, they're all on ABC.

FlashForward. I bet a lot of people are going to pick this as the best new show, but I was kinda worried about it. I thought it would be too Lost-ish, but would suffer in comparison because it didn't have the strong cast and "gravitas" that Lost has. But it's a great show beyond any comparisons (and Dominic Monaghan hasn't even shown up yet!).

Permalink | Email this | | Comments
