There are very few exclusives in TV news nowadays

Michael JacksonWe've talked about this a lot here at TV Squad, how the word "exclusive" isn't used correctly in TV news these days. In fact I'll go one step further and say that networks often lie when they say something is an "exclusive." They'll say that an interview with a famous celebrity or a politician is an exclusive, but you realize you just watched an interview with the same person on another network the night before, or there's an interview with the same person the next day.

Now, some networks will say they have an exclusive before another interview airs, so in that case I guess we can say they're right (if we give them the benefit of the doubt that they didn't know the other interview was coming, that is), but more often than not they know it's not an exclusive.

ABC squeals about Obamas' first dance

ObamaWhen is an exclusive not an exclusive? No, it's not a riddle. The answer is simple -- when everybody has the very same story or image or film. ABC had acquired the exclusive broadcast of President Barack Obama's first dance with Michelle at the Neighborhood Ball: An Inauguration Celebration, which was the first ball that the new First Couple attended.

With Grammy-winner Beyonce singing "At Last" just for them, the two danced alone together on stage. However, ABC's first dance exclusive ended up on other networks.

Lost: exclusive clip from season four DVD - VIDEO

Lost: The Complete Fourth Season DVD SetJust the other day, we told you about a ton of video clips from the recently released Lost season four DVD set. Well, now we've got one more for you and it's an exclusive.

As great as bonus features on a DVD set can be, often they're not worth watching. However, for any fan of Lost, all the twists, turns, and WTF moments pretty much demand that you take a moment to watch anything you can get your hands on. When it comes to this show, a little behind-the-scenes explanation is always a good thing.

That being said, I think everyone remembers the frustration at the end of last season when we knew who the Oceanic Six were but couldn't figure out just how the hell they would all make it off the island together. Remember? They were spread all over the place and for a while, it seemed pretty unlikely that they would all join up.

Obviously it it all came together perfectly by the end, but check out the video after the jump - it's good to know that Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse were just as confused as we were.

Is Alicia Silverstone the mystery girl on How I Met Your Mother?

Alicia SilverstoneMichael Ausiello at TVGuide.com has been playing with his calculator, or maybe it was an abacus. Anyway, Mike has used some oh-so-creative math to add two and two together to get a major revelation on a CBS sitcom. Okay, here's the scoop. Mr. Ausiello has gotten an exclusive casting tidbit from How I Met Your Mother.

Alicia Silverstone, star of Clueless on the big screen, Miss Match on the small, has been signed for a series of episodes, a mini-arc.

Perfect Hair Forever is coming back

perfect hair foreverOne of my favorite new Adult Swim offerings of the last year or so, Perfect Hair Forever, is coming back with sixteen new episodes in the second quarter of 2007. Don't bother setting your Tivos or even going near your television, though, because the new episodes will be aired only on AdultSwim.com. Despite being slightly miffed they're not airing the episodes on television, I'm glad to see they're making new episodes of this insanely off-kilter ode to the anime genre. Still, the idea of only doing six episodes a la FLCL seemed fitting for Perfect Hair Forever, but hell, if the Williams Street fellas have more weirdness to share, I'm all about it.
