(S07E23/S07E24) "You don't know what I've done." - Jack
When 24 first premiered back in 2001, we were all taken off guard. It was so different, innovative, and action packed - like nothing we'd seen on TV ever before. But do you remember why it worked so well? Sure, there was a vast conspiracy that enshrouded the whole day in darkness, but for the most part, it was all about Jack and his family. The Bauers were what made Day 1 so memorable.
You felt horrible when Jack held Teri's lifeless body in those final seconds, and it was because the season focus was weighted towards them and not Drazen or Nina. Because of that formula, the show took off and with each season from then on, 24 became bigger than itself and so did the conspiracies. Then the bubble burst with Day 6 when it all came crashing down - we'd seen enough nukes, bio-pathogens, and Middle Eastern terrorists. The difference? All of that became more important than Jack. After Day 7's stellar finale, I think we can all agree that 24 has found its roots again.

(S07E22) "Why did you betray me?" - Jack
Since next week's finale is actually the last two hours of the season back-to-back, I think it's safe to refer to tonight's hour as Day 7's penultimate episode. As is so often the case with pivotal installments that precede a finale (especially with 24), going into it, I couldn't help shake the feeling that the bio-terror threat would be erased for good only to reveal one more crisis ready to spill over into next week. I'm not trying to say that it was predictable, but ... well ... nevermind. It was predictable.

(S07E18) "Kim, I'm dying." - Jack
That, my friends, is what you call a game changer. Initially, I wasn't feeling the vibe of this episode. It was slow, predictable, and the Kim/Jack reunion that we've known about for ages was about as anti-climactic as you can get. But it worked. Kim's return created precisely the distraction we needed so that hour eighteen's final minutes made our jaws drops. When I spoke with Carlos Bernard recently, he said that production was shut down for over a month at one point to reassess the direction of one episode. I'm guessing this was it.

According to EW's Michael Ausiello, Kim Bauer will be reunited with Daddy Dearest come 2009.
That's right, Elisha Cuthbert has signed a contract to reappear on FOX's 24 this upcoming season. When we last saw her during the fifth season she was being whisked away from Los Angeles by her much older boyfriend, Barry.
She's not expected to return until toward the end of the upcoming seventh season and while she won't be "with" Barry, she will be with a child. Or at least have a child. I'll bet she didn't even tell Jack that he was a grandfather. In fact, is it a sign that
24 is getting a little long in the tooth that our action hero is a grandfather now?

Jack Bauer's daughter is trading in angst for romance. Actress
Elisha Cuthbert has been cast on the CBS pilot Ny-Lon. That's the one-hour romantic-drama-with-comedy
based on the British series of the same name that aired on the Channel 4 TV in 2004 (only there it was called
NY-LON; apparently the American version is initial cap only).

Kiefer Sutherland and 20th Century FOX reached a
deal for three more seasons of
24. According to
The Hollywood
Reporter, Sutherland will make at least $40 million for playing Jack Bauer for three more seasons, making him the
highest-paid actor in a drama series. Sutherland's title improves from co-executive producer to executive producer,
which will undoubtedly rake in some more cash for him. And, the deal also includes a development fund for Sutherland to
develop and produce projects for television and the internet (what? FOX has heard about the
internet?).

Someone asked last week if there was going to be anyone left standing after this season of 24. To be
honest, I have no idea. It's certainly looking like that isn't it? Let's see who's been on for more than one season and
is still alive-- Wayne Palmer, the recently assassinated president's brother, who is currently running for his life
through sewers from mysterious men. Aaron Pierce, the stalwart secret service agent, who's already had a couple of
close calls and was last seen canoodling with the First Lady. Chloe O'Brian, the ever annoyed computer technician who
has stayed by Jack's side when most wouldn't. Will any of these regulars make it through the night, let alone the end
of the season? Sound off and let me know, then join me
back here at 8pm EST to this very post and
that's when I'll unveil the location for the super secret chat room. As with all of our chats, you'll need AIM or a
compatible messenger, so make sure you have one and I'll see you tonight. Gravitas!

I tried. I really did. I wanted to be one
of the cool kids and watch
24, but I can't handle it. Over the summer, my husband and I rented season one of
24 and we suffered through every episode. The show is chock full of obvious stall tactics. Does anybody else
notice these? They come in the form of long, drawn-out, repetitive conversations and of unimportant sub-plots. For
example, the current season began with various versions of the same conversation between President Logan and his wife
about her apparent craziness and her insistence that she's not nutso. Do people in the real world actually have the
same conversation over and over again within one hour? I don't think so. And, during season one, the whole storyline
about President Palmer's son's involvement in a crime was a total time suck (and, of course, the infamous Kim vs. the
cougar incident in season two). While most shows also use sub-plots as fillers (i.e.,
Lost uses flashbacks),
it is most obvious to me on
24 because, quite frankly, who cares about any of the other crap that doesn't
involve Jack Bauer?

Hey!
Don't kill the messenger. I had it on good
authority (
USA Today) that Elisha
Cuthbert would be back on
24 on Monday night. And, in case they change their story, here's the original quote:
"It's official. The magnet of mishaps is returning to
24 tonight. Though actress Elisha Cuthbert took a
season off to star in big screen flicks (
House of Wax,
The Girl Next Door), her character, Kim, will
be back to complicate matters for her dad, Jack Bauer." The story printed February 13, 2006.

By popular demand? I don't think so. Jack Bauer's daughter, Kim, returns to
24 tonight. First of all, she's
going to be surprised to find out that her dad is alive. Then how will she react? Will she want her old job back at
CTU? Who knows what storyline awaits Kim this season. She's already been tormented by a cougar and held hostage by a
psycho in an underground bunker. I'm guessing she had a baby since Jack "died". Why not?
