Ed Bradley's colleagues find comfort in his untouched office

Ed BradleyAccording to Gail Shister of the Philadelphia Inquirer, the 60 Minutes office office of Ed Bradley has not been touched since the veteran reporter died of complications from leukemia in November. Staffers, including his fellow correspondents, have been going into the office to find comfort and reflect on Bradley's unexpected death. ""It feels like he's still here. In some ways, it almost feels like he's off shooting a story," Steve Kroft tells Shister.

The article also speculates on who eventually might take Bradley's spot on the full-time correspondents' roster starting next season. Believe it or not, the last full-timer to come aboard the mothership (not the 60 II edition that ended a couple of years ago) was Leslie Stahl... in 1991.

Top TV Stories of 2006: People we've lost

Don Knotts(Part 1 of 5) It's the time of year when we talk about what happened over the past year, and that unfortunately includes the deaths of many notable personalities. After the jump is a list of the celebrities and other TV-related people we lost in 2006, in no particular order. (Note: it's not easy to compile a list like this and I'm sure I forgot someone. Let me know in the comments and I'll try to add them.)

60 Minutes won't replace Bradley, until they do

Ed BradleyOdd headline over at the Asbury Park Press. It says ""60 Minutes Has No Plans To Replace Bradley," but then in the article there's a quote from the show's executive producer, Jeff Fager, where he says "It's a long-term project to find the next full-time person who can show the abilities that are expected of a 60 Minutes correspondent."

Sounds to me like they do have plans to replace Bradley, but not until next season.

But what's the big deal here? Did we really expect that 60 Minutes can just lose a top reporter and not replace him? And I hate the word "replace" anyway, like he just kept a spot warm and now they're throwing another person in there to take up the spot. Bradley himself won't (and can't) be replaced, he was unique. It's his duties that will be done by someone else.

Mike Wallace in the hot seat on 60 Minutes

mike wallace; 60 minutes; cbs; newsIn-your-face television journalist Mike Wallace answers some tough questions on this Sunday's edition of 60 Minutes. The 88-year-old news veteran is retiring from the program and revealing a lot about his personal life, including the revelation that he attempted suicide 20 years ago. He had a roundtable discussion with fellow 60 Minutes jouralists Ed Bradley, Steve Kroft, Leslie Stahl and Morley Safer, who got his old friend to open up about his battle with depression. Wallace also says that, since his suicide attempt, his life has been better. It's not clear whether he admits how he tried to kill himself.

The retrospective, called I'm Mike Wallace, airs Sunday at 7 pm on CBS. It also includes clips of some of his most memorable interviews.

Mike Wallace is never going to retire

Mike WallaceSure, he's slowed down a bit (he turns 88 tomorrow!), but Wallace says he has no intention of packing up his awards and leaving his CBS office. NBC even wanted him, but he decided to stay at CBS:

"I'm going to stay here ... there's an understanding that I'm not going to be getting on airplanes and flying all over the world, but there are going to be certain important interviews I will do for 60 Minutes."

The one interview he really wants? President George Bush, who has never agreed to talk to him. Wallace has interviewed every President since JFK, and has written a note to new White House Press Secretary Tony Snow in hopes of getting one with Bush.

Was Woods interview an infomercial?

Ed BradleyRichard Sandomir at The New York Times openly questions the reasons behind Tiger Woods' appearance on 60 Minutes last weekend. I didn't watch the show, because I have no interest in Woods specifically or golf in general, but Sandomir brings up some interesting points:

"In the midst of Ed Bradley's worshipful two part profile of Tiger Woods on 60 Minutes last Sunday, I wondered if it was an infomercial or if Woods had paid a fee for these adoring 25 minutes. With nothing new to report - and not a single tough question in his arsenal - Bradley chose to join Camp Tiger."

So who saw this interview? Comments?
