No Flipper on DVD

flipperRemember back in June when Bob told you Flipper was coming out on DVD? Well, it's a lie, A DAMN LIE!

Sorry about that -- but seriously, the TV show will not be coming out on DVD as previously thought. TVShowsonDVD reports that kaBOOM Entertainment, the company that was supposed to release the sets, has said it will not be releasing Flipper on DVD at all. No explanation has been given as to why the set was canceled. I imagine Flipper himself wasn't promised an adequate share of the money from the releases and now everything's tied up because of it. He's probably sitting in his rocking chair in the Old Dolphins Home right now watching The Price is Right and mumbling about how everyone is trying to cheat him: "I gave them the best years of my life!"

National Geographic goes In the Womb

elephant fetusOn Sunday December 10, the National Geographic Channel will premiere In the Womb: Animals, a two-hour special that uses ultrasound imagery along with computer imagery and visual effects to show how different species such as elephants, dogs and dolphins develop while in utero. Call me a sucker for nature programs, because damn it, I live for these kind of specials. You'll see how a dolphin learns to swim while still in the womb, and get a glimpse of the wonders of evolution when the elephant fetus develops ducts like a fish, and the dolphin fetus develops "legs" of sorts.

Okay, now I'm starting to sound like a commercial for the program, but what can I say, this science stuff fascinates me. Just look at that picture on the right of an elephant developing in the womb and tell me it doesn't blow your mind*. Okay, I'll stop with the awe now, but if you're as into this stuff as I am, you should check out some video previews here.

*It's actually a CGI, but it's still pretty damn cool.

They call him Flipper, Flipper, and he's coming to DVD

FlipperI loved this show as a kid. I know either Nickelodeon or TV Land showed repeats during the 90s, but I haven't seen it around since then. There was an update or two in the 90s too I, I believe, as well as that big screen movie with Elijah Wood, before he got Hobbitized.

The entire Flipper series - all 87 episodes - is going to be released on DVD by a Canadian company, kaBOOM! Entertainment. The first set will be released this fall, and then the other three sets will be released in 2007.

Brian Kelly, who played the father in the series, died last year. Luke Halpin, who played Sandy, is still involved in the movie industry, while Tommy Norden, who played Bud, retired from acting and works in his family business.
