Taylor Hicks tries not to bite the hand that feeds him

Taylor HicksSoul Patrol, you need to get your man in line. In interview after interview, Taylor Hicks has been none too kind to his American Idol masters. Hicks told Relix magazine that he never watched Idol before appearing on it and that the show is "fizzling out" anyway. Hicks had this to say about the Idol-produced hit "Do I Make You Proud," "It's not mine. The song that was given to me first, I got up from a chair and walked right out of the studio. I was handed this song and I was just like, 'No way, you're not going to make me sing this song.'" That song debuted at number one on the Billboard charts, and undoubtedly, made the man some pocket change.

JibJab and Weird Al team up for video

weird alWeird Al Yankovic's goofy songs was the first music I ever really got into, and his sense of humor pretty much defined my own during my early impressionable years. I've always said that the success of his albums was dependent on the music and pop culture landscape of the time (it seemed that if Michael Jackson was having a good year, so would Al), but this time around I think his new album has also been helped by some great videos that have found a wider audience thanks to YouTube and other video sites.

Weird Al's latest video, a take on Taylor Hicks' "Do I Make You Proud?" titled "Do I Creep You Out?" was animated by the boys at JibJab.com, and you can check it out here. Don't try to find it on television, though, the video is online only. Al plays a lonely stalker who just wants to save a girl's used chewing gum and stick her fingers in his mouth. Personally, I don't think that's too much to ask.

Hicks signs record deal; get ready for Doobie Brothers covers

Taylor HicksIt a bit of anti-climactic news, American Idol winner Taylor Hicks has signed a record deal with Clive Davis (surprise!), who will now guide the new star's music career. The first two singles, "Do I Make You Proud?" and a cover of the Doobie Brothers classic tune, "Takin' It To The Streets."

I was afraid this could happen. Just because Hicks can do an impersonation of the Doobie Brothers' lead singer sounds a lot like the Doobie Brothers lead singer, they have to actually give him that as one of the songs to do on his first album? What is he, a parrot? Is this album going to be filled with all Doobie Brothers and Ray Charles covers, and maybe a special DVD of Hicks dancing?

I still wonder what's going to happen to Katharine McPhee. Maybe her first album with contain 10 tracks, and the first 6 will all be "Somewhere Over The Rainbow."
