Review: White Collar - Pilot (series premiere)

White Collar
(S01E01) USA Network likes to remind us that characters are welcome. Thankfully, that's not just a slogan, as all of their shows actually do have great lead characters. And this holds true for the latest light comedy-action drama White Collar.

Sure, there's similar DNA that runs though a lot of the USA shows. Burn Notice, Royal Pains, and White Collar all have a similar setup and feel to them, but when the shows are actually good (like all of these shows are) that's not a problem. I don't know if there's anything "deep" about this show, but it's entertaining as hell.

Watch the entire Star Wars Holiday Special on YouTube - VIDEO

Star Wars Holiday Special AdWhere were you on November 17, 1978? If you were alive (I keep forgetting how young some of our readers are), you were probably in front of the one TV in your house, with your family, waiting on pins and needles for the evening news to end. Why? Because ABC was about to air the highly-anticipated show The Star Wars Holiday Special, that's why. Most of us had seen the blockbuster Star Wars about a dozen times by then, and we were looking forward to seeing our favorite characters in an all-new adventure!

Unfortunately, it stunk. It stunk so bad that, according to IMDb, George Lucas tried to buy up all master copies of the show so it would never be shown again. And it hasn't; its only broadcast was on 11/17/78. It's never been released on home video, either. Bootlegs of the show have been floating around for decades, but have been hard to find.

But now, thanks to our old friend YouTube, you can now watch the entire special, which has been broken up into 10 parts. Part one is after the jump; click here to go to the YouTube page for it, where you'll see the other parts in the "Related" section.

Grey's Anatomy: I Am a Tree

Grey's Anatomy: I Am a Tree(S03E02) One of the reasons why we here at the Squad do episode reviews instead of recaps is because a lot of the shows we cover are pretty complex. If we tried to recap everything that went on, we'd not only be typing all night, but we'd also likely go oh-so-slightly insane in the process.

I mean, imagine if I had to recap this episode of Grey's? We had a patient with a tree inside him, a lung surgery candidate who likes bathroom nookie, a mourning Izzie baking more muffins than one city can eat, a patient with a tumor that makes him tell the blunt truth, Callie taking a bullet for Meredith, and Bailey's defenses breaking down.

Oh, and Burke's parents showed up. Cristina is so screwed.

Diahann Carroll to guest star on Grey's Anatomy

Diahann CarrollAh, Shonda. How you tease us. Apparently, Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes let a little tidbit drop about the upcoming season of her hit show: Diahann Carroll, of Dynasty and Julia fame, will guest star some time next year. Only Shonda won't reveal exactly what role she'll play.

Rhimes revealed the casting news as critics toured the Grey's set, in one of those side trips from the press tour that critics like to make their readers think they took on their own. I can just see it now: a herd of critics, standing among hospital beds, eagerly asking Rhimes repeated questions about next season and Carroll's role, using different wording each time to try to trip her up, and Shonda just stonewalling. Yikes. Hope someone took the time to ask Shonda about that ridiculous finale...
