Deleted Scenes: Dwight Schrute's book of failure - literally

For a while there I thought The Office was meandering a bit. Over the top situations, some episodes (especially the hour-long ones) that weren't particularly funny, plot developments I didn't like. But it's been really good again lately. I thought the whole "Michael Scott starts his own paper company" arc was going to be a disaster, but it turned out to be funny, interesting, even important. Here's a clip from the recent "Casual Friday" episode. It features the Dunder-Mifflin gang talking about whether or not failure is an option.

Animation news: a look at the Aqua Teen Movie DVD, G.I. Joe flick gets a writer, and more

aqua teen hunger forceAs I said when Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters was released in April, the film is essentially review proof, which is why I loved it and a lot of critics hated it. I was drawn to the series since it first appeared in 2000, because it fed my love for the absurd and nonsensical. Quite honestly, if the feature film had been a critical favorite I might have considered that a failure in many ways. Aqua Teen Hunger Force gained popularity precisely because it was a weird little show buried in the late night schedule of Cartoon Network, a diamond in the rough fans had to discover on their own. Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters, and the aptly titled Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters for DVD are for those who are already in on the joke . . . or really high.

The Simpsons Movie on DVD December 18

SimpsonsThe always-informative Simpsons Channel has news from the always-informative TVShowsOnDVD.com about the upcoming DVD release of the Simpsons Movie. The information was relayed to TVShowsOnDVD through some folks in the industry, so everything I mention here is subject to change. Still, I couldn't resist this opportunity to whet fans' appetites.

The DVD will be out on December 18, and it will be circular. Also, the film will be available in both full screen and widescreen formats. I don't know why you'd want to buy full screen, unless you want to sit and pretend you're watching an extra-long episode of the TV series.

Season three of The Office comes to DVD on September 4

Season Three of The Office comes to DVD on September 4thIf you are a fan of both The Office and 30 Rock then you may be delighted or upset with the following information. The season three DVD box set of NBC's The Office is being released on September 4th, the same date that 30 Rock is being released. If money is no object, than this is good news. However, if you budgeted for only one DVD release then you may have an issue.

Maybe listing the bonus features will help you decide between the two box sets. The Office DVDs feature 3 hours of deleted scenes, 16 minutes of bloopers and commentaries made by eight of the cast members (not listed in the press release we were sent). Also featured are the Lazy Scranton and "Make your own promo contest" videos as well as a music video from Dwight Schrute himself.

Still not convinced? Well, take a look at Michael's expression on the DVD box art. He's so sad. It's like he's begging you to buy the DVD set. Now, how can you turn down a face like that?

Exploring the new world of online deleted scenes

Steve Carell and Ed HelmsSunday's edition of the Newark Star-Ledger had a good article about the relatively new phenomenon of online-viewable deleted scenes, and how show-runners have been utilizing them. Alan Sepinwall, the paper's TV critic, spoke to Greg Daniels of The Office, Jason Katims of Friday Night Lights, and Ronald D. Moore of Battlestar Galactica, about how they've been able to throw in little plot or character details in the deleted scenes, knowing that the fanatical viewers of each show will see them on the web.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force: Deleted Scenes

ATHFA Christmas spectacular indeed! This one easily cracks the top five best ATHF episodes. It had everything you could want: plenty of Carl, the Mooninites and Plutonians, and The Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past from the Future. Plus, it was a double episode clocking in at around 22 minutes of Aqua Teen love. Things like this make me very happy.
