Review: Glee - Mash-Up

Glee_cast_fox
(S01E08)
In what might be one of the best episodes of Glee since the premiere, Matthew Morrison was given a true showcase. There was also no Will family drama. Hmm ... is that a coincidence? I don't think so. I clearly have more interest in what Will's doing at McKinley High with the singing and dancing then his marriage.

Mash-ups were on the top of the to-do list. Emma and Ken asked Will for a wedding song mash-up, which was easier said than done when the two songs they wanted were "I Could Have Danced All Night" from My Fair Lady and Sisqo's "The Thong Song." Fortunately, Will didn't sing the former, just the latter.

Now Sesame Street takes on the iPod

Sesame Street did a Mad Men spoof recently, and now they're spoofing another contemporary pop culture icon: the iPod.

In this clip, the Muppets are seen wearing headphones and dancing in silhouette a la various commercials for Apple's iPod. Steve Jobs called and is going to sue PBS. Just kidding!

America's Got Talent: Performance show four

America's Got Talent(S04E19) A few of you told me that I was wrong by claiming that last week's performance show was electrifying. I agree with you that we have seen much better performance shows in the past. However, when you compare the third performance show of the season with the two previous, you have to admit that it was the most electrifying.

Save for a few of tonight's acts, such as Ishaara and Barbara, the third performance show is still the best performance show we've had so far this season.

My comments on the fourth performance show and my predictions coming up!

America's Got Talent(S04E18) "The most electrifying show yet!" - Nick, about last night's performance show

Nick is right. Last night was electrifying, even if a few acts got X'd. It was one of the best show's we've had so far this season.

As I noted in my review of the performance episode, I expected Jeffrey Ou to lose some votes because viewers weren't able to hear him play the piano in the second part of his acts. But a few of our site visitors said they voted for him because he wasn't given a fair chance.

Will Jeffrey get another chance by moving on to the Top 20? Results coming up!

America's Got Talent: Performance show three

America's Got Talent(S04E17) A lot of you sounded off in comments to my "Results show two" post last week, either to complain about the judges putting through Tony Hoard and Rory over Charles, or to give your two cents about what the show should change when it returns next summer for a fifth season.

One thing is certain; most fans are not happy with how season four is going, and most are pointing fingers at the judges. Sharon and David especially seem to check their judgment at the door when it's time to make certain decisions, don't you agree?

This week, we were treated with the second to last Top 48 performance show of the "greatest talent competition on Earth," America's Got Talent. Most of the acts definitely delivered the goods tonight. Do you think America and the judges will pick the right five acts to move to the Top 20 this week? My comments about this week's performances coming up!

America's Got Talent: Audition Show 6

Grandma Lee on America's Got Talent(S04E05) "It looks like hunks in trunks will be dunking in Las Vegas!" - Hoff

After a funny entrance by "The Hoff Rider," wearing a black leather duster and cowboy hat, the show got started in Houston, Texas.

I sort of slugged my way through the first part of it, but wow, the ending was totally worth all the crummy acts. Barbara Padilla looks like any other stay-at-home mom, but out of her mouth came this awesome operatic voice. Not only that, she's a cancer survivor. I'm such a sucker for these heartfelt, hopeful stories. She's no newbie, though. Barbara actually has a nice Web site highlighting her talent.

Also not a newbie is Grandma Lee (pictured), who's done some stand-up comedy before coming on America's Got Talent. Pretty darn funny, though.

After the jump, check out my thoughts on tonight's auditions.

America's Got Talent
(S04E05) "Even The Hoff couldn't rescue us today." - Piers, about how bad the auditions had been that day in L.A.

Are we there yet? I enjoy watching America's Got Talent and all the various acts, but the audition process is once again this year torturing me. There are way too many audition episodes. Can't they cut down on the number of audition episodes and put some on the Internet as extra content? They could tease us with a quick montage and say that to see more of these acts we just have to go online. Are you with me on this?

Luckily, auditions installments are soon over and episodes will focus on better acts than the toe dancer or the 7th cousin to Celine Dion who thinks she got the Dion singing gene!

Was Katee Shean actually the runner up on So You Think You Can Dance?

Katee Shean runner up of season four?
As a big fan of the X-Files and Reality TV, I love thinking about and reading conspiracy theories about eliminations. While re-watching the audition episodes of So You Think You Can Dance I noticed during Adam Shankman's fake audition, Katee Shean critiqued him. Below her it read "runner up."

Wait a second. She was second runner up. Shouldn't it just say "finalist" or "second runner up" instead?

I know I'm thinking too hard, but I created an interesting theory about Katee. Maybe the producers knew she was the actual runner up, but thought that wouldn't make good television. They placed her in third and gave her money to compensate. Here are some points of interest.

So You Think You Can Dance: Season Finale

(S04E23) It all comes down to this. The season has been a bit underwhelming at times compared to seasons past, but it did indeed have its fantastic moments. I'm sure I won't soon forget Twitch and Kherrington's Viennese waltz or Katee and Will's pas de deux.

Still standing at the end is a girl who is the ultimate underdog, a girl who would've quit, a guy with absolutely no formal training, and a guy who was #21 last season, just shy of making the top 20 dancers. Let's talk about the season finale of So You Think You Can Dance. For Real!

FOX orders season five of So You Think You Can Dance

SYTYCD logoLooks like next summer we are getting another season of So You Think You Can Dance. The dance competition will continue to rule the summer with its fifth season next year.

This shouldn't come as a big surprise to anyone -- whether you watch the show or not. It's basically the American Idol of the summertime, the off-season Lythgoe/Fuller powerhouse. The ratings are stellar. Both Wednesday and Thursday telecasts rank number one in their respective time periods in all key demographics. Furthermore, the show has been Emmy nominated, earning four nods this year for choreography by Wade Robson, Shane Sparks, and Mandy Moore.

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 10 Revealed

Top 12 dancers
(S04E15)It's time to find out which dancers will be going on tour after So You Think You Can Dance ends this August. I'm going to put it out there now (I think it's time): I want either Joshua or Katee to win this competition. I think it would be especially nice if the girl they almost didn't put on the show won the whole sha-bang!

Other thoughts before we begin... Nigel is a little cranky lately. I don't like him chiding Cat. All she did was remind everyone to tune in to the finale. By the way, there's going to be a sick popping battle during SYTYCD's live finale. Awesome. My review of tonight's show is after the jump.

Wade Robson on Star Search - VIDEOS

Wade Robson on SYTYCDI know fans of So You Think You Can Dance have noticed that one of the best choreographers from show is absent this season. We know why Shane Sparks isn't on the program this summer, but what about Wade Robson? Many fans of the show agree that he has put together some of fiercest couple routines and group performances that So You Think You Can Dance has ever seen.

Unfortunately, I don't know where Wade Robson is. Believe me, if I find out if he's coming back to Fox's hit show, you TV Squad readers will be the first to know. I thought in the meantime we could enjoy some of his other work, including his performance on Star Search as a little boy. It's adorable.

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 12 Revealed

Thayne and Comfort(S04E13) It was a long night on Wednesday getting through fourteen routines, most of which were lackluster. When do you think the judges will start admitting that season four is just not up to snuff? Now it's time to see who was able to snag enough votes to stay one more week on So You Think You Can Dance.

The Opening Performance

The top fourteen dancers performed a Broadway routine to "Money Money" from Cabaret (Original Cast Recording) choreographed by Tyce DiOrio. The performance started off slow for me, but at the part of the song where the company starts whispering "money, money, money, money," I thought the dance picked up as well. I think that's testament to Tyce's ability to pace a number.

So You Think You Can Dance: Top 14 Perform

Mark and Chelsea(S04E12) I'm filling in for Jason as he had some technical difficulties last night. So let's get right to it. Tabitha and Napoleon were helping out Mary and Nigel at the judges table. And thank goodness for that. I've been waiting to see someone else's hip-hop choreography. Theirs is very hit or miss for me.

We got to see fourteen routines tonight on So You Think You Can Dance as the seven couples appeared twice. I love when they move to this part of the competition. You get to see right away who has the determination, strength, and technical know-how to stay alive on this show.

And it was a night of crazy hair...

Lacey and Kamryn dance A few days ago I put together some of my favorite routines from So You Think You Can Dance. I have to thank you readers for reminding me how many other great routines the show has had. They are even some I forgot about entirely. But I enjoyed watching them all over again.

After the jump are the reader picks and the videos. Don't forget to check out Jason's review of tonight's show and tell us what you thought of the performances.

So You Think You Can Dance airs on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET and on Thursdays at 9 p.m.
