A new reality show premiering Monday is on a bit more serious quest than giving a D-list celebrity malaria or finding the next pop star. NBC's
The Wanted is going after suspected terrorists and war criminals.
The show has already drawn its
share of controversy as governmental officials say it could interfere in ongoing criminal and espionage investigations. Media critics are all over it, too -- calling it stunt journalism.
But, NBC is no stranger to such claims. Its investigations into alleged pedophiles on
Dateline (
To Catch a Predator) went from gritty reporting to police support to sensational pop culture phenomenon.

It's not often that a celebrity obituary throws me into such a sudden shock that I can't do anything but stare blankly at the screen for several minutes. Well,
this is one of them. Actor Paul Gleason passed away on Saturday from a rare form of asbestos-related lung cancer. He was 67 years-old. Gleason has appeared in
various television roles, but he's probably most recognized as the vicious Principal Vernon from
The Breakfast Club. The film has a very special place in my heart because when my friends and I have to dress up in costume for something, we
always go as the Club (and I'm always the Basketcase).
This news is really quite upsetting. Time for me to break the news to the rest of my Breakfast Club.

Author James Frey isn't much of an alcoholic, a drug addict or a criminal. He's a pathological liar. And Oprah
exposed him for what he is on her show today. Well, actually,
The Smoking Gun exposed him for what he is back
on January 8th. Oprah just forced him into admitting that he lied in his so-called memoir about addiction and crime,
A Million Little Pieces. Oprah made that book number one on the best seller list when she included it in her
book club. It sold 1.77 million copies.
Oprah opened her show by apologizing to viewers for trusting Frey so
blindly that she
called up
Larry King when he was defending his
lies book and voiced her
support for him. To Frey's face, she said, "I really feel duped." Then, she proceeded to take him down. Inch
by inch. God, I love this woman.
