Just to be complete, I wanted to go over a few more tidbits from the NBC executive session with entertainment co-chiefs Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff. We already know about
Leno copying Kimmel, and the late night news that came out of it, and we already know about
the non-spin-off and the actual spin-off for The Office. But what else did they talk about?
- Life will get two Monday night showings, starting on September 29 at 10 PM ET, which will allow them to premiere Christian Slater's My Own Worst Enemy on October 13, and run it straight through December. Silverman called having that show after Chuck and Heroes a kind of a "male Heroes sandwich."

Taking a cue from ABC, NBC had Jay Leno pose as a reporter and ask NBC's two-headed entertainment chief, Ben Silverman and Marc Graboff, about when Leno would be leaving and when Conan would be starting. Only, instead of just wearing a baseball cap like Kimmel did, Leno donned a bald cap and beard to make him seem extra stealthy.
Some of the "funny" lines are after the jump, but here's the gist of the news: Leno's last day on the
Tonight show will be on May 29, with Conan O'Brien taking over the following Monday, June 1. Conan will do his last
Late Night sometime during the first quarter, according to Graboff and Silverman, and Jimmy Fallon will take over the timeslot at an undetermined time during either March or April (that's after starting online,
as Lorne Michaels announced yesterday). No word on what will play in Conan's 12:30 slot in the interim period.

Goodbye, Jay -- you don't mind if we push you out of the chair, do you? If you thought NBC made a mess of the David Letterman/Jay Leno replacement switch-off back in 1992, then you might find it not very surprising that the hand off from Jay (I don't want to go) Leno to Conan O'Brien is portending to be just as sticky.
According to
TV Week,
NBC is poised to announce the official Jay Leno departure from The Tonight Show and Conan O'Brien arrival today. Our man at the
TCA, Joel Keller, could have all the details later on, so keep checking back with TV Squad.
Reportedly, Leno will be exiting in late May, possibly on the anniversary of the date he took the chair from Johnny Carson, May 25. Carson's last
Tonight Show was May 22, 1992; Jay's tenure commenced on Monday, May 25. The problem with re-creating that symmetry in 2009 is that those dates are Memorial Day weekend.

Hot on the heels of Jimmy Kimmel's questions to ABC chief Steve McPherson about Jay Leno coming to ABC comes this: Leno says he's leaving NBC for good.
NBC has said several times that even though Conan O'Brien is going to replace Leno as host of The Tonight Show next year, they were very interested in having him stay with the network to do...well, something else. Host another show, host specials, fix the cars of the executives, whatever. But now Leno tells USA Today that he's not interested in any of that and he's leaving NBC. He doesn't say that he's going to retire (he's just not that type, and it's the one thing I like about him), he just says he's leaving NBC and that he'll get another job and be fine.
Leno will probably have many offers to choose from as 2009 approaches, so I wouldn't worry about him.
