cocktails-related stories

I'll admit it: I like
Martha (the show and the person). Unlike a lot of daytime shows that feature cooking and other how-to segments, it's not so heavily tilted towards women that men can't get into it. Unlike
Rachael Ray, which has way too many segments on makeovers, relationships, and what shoes you should wear.
Today she has
Mad Men's Joan Holloway herself, Christina Hendricks. It says in the summary for the episode that Hendricks is going to mix Halloween cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Whenever someone from
Mad Men is on Martha they make cocktails. Last season Bryan Batt (Sal Romano) was on and made Manhattans and Rob Roys.
Here's a sneak peek. It doesn't really show too much, except that most of the episode is all about spiders. I hate spiders.

Hey, did you hear
Mad Men's third season debuts tonight at 10 on AMC? Actually, when the show is this good, I don't mind the hype.
To prepare for the third season, here are some more web goodies for you (in addition to
avatars,
sneak peeks and
recaps).
The New York Times has an article on the
cocktails of the Mad Men era, and if you want to make some of your own AMC has the
drink recipes. AMC also has a
Which Mad Man Are You? quiz. Or how about buying
some of the era's items for your house?
There are also several interviews to read before the premiere, including
Jon Hamm (
here too),
Christina Hendricks,
Elisabeth Moss, and
Vincent Kartheiser.
Oh, something from the other night, after the jump...

So how are you celebrating the season finale of
Mad Men tonight? I'm doing it the same way I do it every single Sunday night at 10, with a
Mad Men party! Of course, my party consists of me and an alcoholic beverage, but still!
There are a lot of people who having parties tonight, including the cool ladies over at
Basket of Kisses, who are
throwing a bash at Phoenix Park in New York City.
Noir Bar at the Charles Hotel in Cambridge, MA is having a season finale party, too, with retro drinks and snacks and even a lookalike contest with prizes. I bet there are a lot of bars in your local area that are having parties as well, so I'd check if you feel like dressing up and going out instead of being plopped on your couch tonight.

Kate Flannery, who most of you will know as Meredith from
The Office, has
updated her TV Guide blog with some tidbits about the big J.J. Abrams directed episode, "Cocktails." There are a couple spoilers, so save it for tomorrow if you dodge that kind of stuff. The entry also includes some more trivia on last week's Whedon episode, "Business School." For instance, Rainn Wilson named the bat, and it was a live bat, Gary.
The thing I found interesting was her story of her past with Abrams. It seems that previous to her
Office gig, Kate spent some time working as a waitress. Abrams would come in to write and ask how her acting was going. When the two met again on the set he remembered her, and was very excited for her success. Abrams catches a lot of crap for his role in the whole
Lost deal, so it's worth pointing out the positive stories now and again too.
