Is this a real job interview?

I saw this commercial over at AdFreak and I'm posting it here not because I think that it's particularly funny but because the company that puts together these "Truth" anti-smoking ads says that the woman in the video is an actual job interviewee and not an actress. Hmmm...you be the judge. Are you AMPED?

What You Missed Last Night: Real Animals, Fake Arms

Last night, Bruno appeared on The Tonight Show and did a dance on Conan's desk, thrusting his crotch into the host's face several times. I am not going to show that video (honestly, has a character worn out its welcome so much before a movie even opens?). Instead, here's video from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon of a duck smoking outside of a bar.

Mad Men: Ladies Room

Mad Men

(S01E02) "I can't tell you about my childhood. It will ruin the first part of my novel." - Don Draper

Is it possible to fall in love with a TV show? I don't mean a show that you really like and respect and put on your TiVo season pass, I mean a show you actually want to date and kiss and walk hand in hand with on the beach? Mad Men is that show for me. I'm even in love with the credits, a montage of black and white graphical images of buildings and people and subtle, sly music.

I also like how this show is set in 1960. It's firmly set in the attitudes of the 1950s but there are more than enough hints that the "60s" that we all know is coming fast. And these people are trying to prepare for it (some a lot more than others, of course).

Should they ban smoking on TV?

CruellaSo Disney says that they're not going to have anyone smoking in their future movies. I guess that means we won't see Toy Story 4: Smoke 'Em If You Got 'Em. But it got me thinking: will we see a ban of cigarette smoking on TV too?

Of course, you don't see much smoking on TV shows nowadays. Cigarette commercials were banned years ago, and you never see someone smoking on a talk show (I watched an old Tomorrow Show with Tom Snyder online the other day and everyone was smoking) or a sitcom (unless it's a "very special episode" about the dangers of smoking, and those are probably herbal cigarettes). Once in a while you'll see a cigar or a random cigarette on a drama (Matt Albie smoked on Studio 60).

But could they ban smoking on TV altogether?

Mad Men -- An early look

Mad Men PROMO SLIDE

The late, great comedian Bill Hicks had a certain recommendation for ad men. It went a little something like this, "By the way, if anyone here is in advertising or marketing, kill yourself...there's no rationalization for what you do...you are Satan's spawn filling the world with bile and garbage. You are f@cked, and you are f@cking us. Kill yourself. It's the only way to save your f@cking soul. Kill yourself...quit putting a goddamn dollar sign on every f@cking thing on this planet."

NewsRadio: Smoking

Phil Hartman(S01E03) Another funny episode, as a new no smoking ordinance in the office causes problems for Bill, who smokes like a chimney. And, because any problem for Bill ultimately becomes a problem for Dave, Dave has to give up drinking coffee, to help Bill with his addiction.

Meanwhile, Lisa and Joe are nervous around each other because they saw each other at the movie theater. Lisa thinks it's because Joe knows about her and Dave, but it's actually something else...
