Bam Margera weds; Vincent Margera stands trial

Bam Margera and Don VitoIt was a busy week at the Margera estate. Vincent "Don Vito" Margera, Bam's uncle and co-star on Viva La Bam, was ordered to stand trial on felony charges that he groped three girls at a public appearance. If convicted, Uncle Don could face up to six years in prison. That's unfortunate news so let's move on to the good stuff.

Professional jackass Bam got married to childhood pal Missy Rothstein this weekend. The couple wed in front of 350 friends, family and MTV crew members. The wedding will be televised in April as the culminating episode of forthcoming reality show Bam's Unholy Union. Putting in appearances at the wedding were Tony Hawk and James Iha, formerly of the Smashing Pumpkins. Best of all, Iggy Pop performed as part of the festivities. Hot damn. That so beats hiring a fallen American Idol to play at your bar mitzvah. Do you think the bride came down the aisle to "I Wanna Be Your Dog" or "Search and Destroy?"

Sarah Silverman to host Independent Spirit Awards

sarah silvermanSarah Silverman is returning for her second year as host of the Spirit Awards, which is the award show I watch instead of the Academy Awards. I understand that just because a film is independent doesn't mean it's any good, but I prefer the laidback atmosphere and free spirit of this broadcast over the stuffy, surgically-altered humanoids who give golden idols to whoever made the least crappiest mainstream film that year.

The award ceremony for the Spirit Awards will air on IFC on February 24, 2007, and nominees will be announced on November 28. The Spirit Awards have been around since 1984, and they've been a great way for me to find out about movies I hadn't heard of. It was because of them I found out about Donnie Darko, which quickly became one of my favorite movies.

Chainsaw Awards on Fuse

devil's rejectsThat's right, Fuse TV will be presenting the Chainsaw Awards on October 22 at 9:30 pm. Who will take home the trophy this year? Will it be the Partner K950 gas-powered chainsaw with decompression valve for easy pull starting? Or what about the eighteen-inch Homelite chainsaw with automatic chain brake, which has lost out for the past five years to the fourteen-inch Remington electric chainsaw? I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm excited to find out which of th--

Hang on, someone just tapped me on the shoulder and told me the Chainsaw Awards is actually a special from Fuse and Fangoria honoring horror movies. I guess that's cool, too. Categories include "Killer Movie," "Looks That Kill," and "Best Butcher." Sounds like a fun-filled night of blood and gore. I'm looking forward to it. The awards have been handed out since 1992, but this marks the first time they've been televised.

Peter Jennings Way christened in NYC

jennings wayA portion of a street in New York City was renamed Peter Jennings Way during a ceremony yesterday. The street was both near where Jennings lived and where he worked as an anchor for ABC News. Jennings died of lung cancer in August. The section of street is on 66th Street between Columbus Avenue and Central Park. Jennings' widow, two children, the president of ABC News, and even mayor Michael Bloomberg attended the ceremony.
