Gordon Ramsay gets animated

Gordon Ramsay, At Your ServiceAs if Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares weren't enough, Gordon Ramsay will be hosting another television show called Gordon Ramsay, At Your Service. Only this time, the show will be stop-motion animation by the same team that brought you Celebrity Deathmatch on MTV, Cuppa Coffee Studios.

This idea is reminiscent of those Saturday morning cartoons that would involve a fictional world surrounding a particular celebrity, usually Jackie Chan or Mr. T. or someone like that. Will Gordon Ramsay moonlight as a chef by day and solve crimes at night? Will he fight food-based super-villains? Will his kitchen be his high-tech headquarters where everything is operated by ladle? Will he face down with other celebrity chefs like Emeril or Rachael Ray?

Given his penchant for strong language, I suspect either this will be shopped to one of the channels of more adult content (HBO, Showtime, etc.) or every word coming out of Ramsay's clay mouth would be a beep.

The Five: Favorite MTV memories

MTV logoAs we've mentioned already, MTV is celebrating its 25th Anniversary today, and everyone of a certain age remembers what it was like when the music network debuted. I was just about to start my junior year in high school, and I remember the day it premiered very well. Here are my favorite MTV memories (mostly from the first 15-18 years, since I haven't really watched it in the past 5-7 years).

1. Live Aid. I was working a double shift at a pizza place in July of '85, but we had a large screen television in the dining room and we had this on all day. It was a pretty amazing day actually. Giant charity concerts are a regular thing now, but back then, getting dozens and dozens of top pop stars to play on one day on two continents, that was something special.

Starveillance coming to E!

celebrity deathmatchEric Fogel, the creator of Celebrity Deathmatch, has created another stop-motion animated series, this time for the E! Network. The new series is called Starveillance and will focus on imagined candid celebrity moments such as Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes running into Brooke Shields at the hospital, or Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore's first date. Since I've never been a fan of Celebrity Deathmatch I can't imagine I'd care much for this show, but hey, maybe it'll be better than I think. Episodes of the new series will begin in January, and will also air on the E! Web site.

MTV2 has preview of new animation block

where my dogs atAs I mentioned before, MTV2 is getting back in to the animation game with a new Saturday afternoon block of shows, Sic 'Emation, set to debut on June 10. Well, a couple new shows, a retread of an old show (Celebrity Deathmatch), and reruns of Beavis and Butthead. While it doesn't make sense for me to judge any of the new shows on just these preview clips, I'm going to anyway. So here goes:

When is Celebrity Deathmatch returning again?

celebrity deathmatchLast month I mentioned that MTV2 was planning on bringing Celebrity Deathmatch back. Now, if you can find any information on this, especially on either the MTV or MTV2 site, than you're a better man/woman than I. The only thing I have found is this clip from Perez Hilton of Nicole Richie and Paris Hilton in clay form beating the stuffing out of one another with text below stating that the show is returning on June 10.

Oop, hang on there, Missy. The Futon Critic has the first episode listed as airing on June 9, not 10. Apparently, someone is lying to us.

MTV2 takes on Adult Swim

celebrity deathmatchI apologize for piggybacking something personal onto this blog post, but I thought you should know that this is what's happening inside my head all the time. How this girl was able to capture it, I'll never know.

Speaking of animation, last month I mentioned a new animated series from comedians Jeffrey Ross and Tracy Morgan called Where My Dogs At? At the time I couldn't find much information on the series, but it turns out the show is part of a new effort from MTV2 to go head to head with Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block. Besides Ross and Morgan's new series, the network also plans to bring back Celebrity Deathmatch, one of the most boring uses of clay since Gumby. MTV2 has actually been testing the waters with animation for awhile now, tossing in old episodes of Beavis and Butthead and Celebrity Deathmatch into the schedule. Personally, I think they should bring back Liquid Television, or at least show old episodes. I don't know if MTV is in any position to go up against Adult Swim, which is clearly the undisputed champion of experimental animation right now. However, MTV was once a lot like Adult Swim, home to a lot of really great and weird animated shows. It'll be interesting to see if anything they come up with can rival what Adult Swim is offering.
