So first I see the headline that
NBC is developing SelleVision, a home-shopping comedy. I immediately thought of how well tapping into payday loans worked for The CW last year. I guess I associate the people who shop on those home-shopping networks as the same people who get payday loans? Not fair, I know but what can you do.
I don't think we've had a home-shopping network-based scripted show (of that, I'm probably wrong). At the least, it's unique. Then I saw that Bryan Singer was directing. Okay, interesting. Bryan Fuller (
Pushing Daisies) is set to write? Sold!
The series, based on the book of the same name, was originally optioned for film, but now is being expanded for television. The bottom line is that the book is bizarre and funny; it features alcohol and drug abuse, marital affairs and other twisted things among its mostly female cast. Fuller excels at weird hour-long comedy-dramas, and this material sounds like a perfect fit for him.

Now this is getting ridiculous. There's a rumor on the Web that Justin Timberlake might be
cast in the new Battlestar Gactica movie.
At first I didn't know what to make of Universal and Bryan Singer's plans to move ahead with a
Battlestar Galactica reboot flick, but now I'm sure I want to see the project die a fiery, fiery death. Casting Justin Timberlake in a new
Battlestar movie isn't the problem. The problem is that its just plain ridiculous to have two very different versions of the same beloved franchise out there at the same time. It'll be like Marty McFly running into his future self at the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance in 1955. It could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space-time continuum!

There have already
been rumors, but we all know how studios have this annoying tendency to milk franchises until they're dead, and then milk them some more before the corpse gets too cold. Well, Universal seems to think that now that Ron Moore's operatic space war version of the show is done, now would be a great time for Bryan Singer to direct
yet another reboot of the
Battlestar Galactica franchise.
Singer is said to be a big fan of the original 70's series, but the supposedly $10 million dollar paycheck for Singer probably also has an effect on his directorial willingness. Despite the talent behind it, this reboot is a bad idea. Singer did
X-Men, but he also did
Superman Returns. Plus, too many reboots in too short a time would only be confusing to people.
Of course, this time creator Glen Larson is on board to produce. While it didn't turn out so bad last time Larson wasn't involved, not having him would be like remaking
Buffy without Joss Whedon.
Oh, wait.

Sparkly dresses, disco tunes, platform shoes, Studio 54... it's all about the 1970's in
Showtime's new drama,
Studio, which centers on
the iconic New York nightclub that brought it all home.
Bryan Singer -- undoubtedly one of the busiest guys in Hollywood -- is in talks to direct the pilot, with writer Chad Hodge and
Hairspray producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron helming the project.
Studio will begin in the months leading up to the club's April 1977 opening. Though fictional, the series will revolve around the real-life co-founder of the club, the flamboyant
Steve Rubell.

Attention, TV Squad readers, my friends and fellow television fans, it's time to announce the winner for The Excellence in Outsourcing Award, that is, the foreign actor who possesses the best American accent. There were many worthy nominees, but the overwhelming winner was
House, MD himself, actor Hugh Laurie. That Englishman, one of her majesty's loyal subjects, has been making us all believe that he's just a Jersey boy. As Dr. Gregory House of Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, he sounds like he was born in south Jersey, spent his summers in Asbury Park, and is as much a Garden Stater as Bruce Springsteen and Tony Soprano.

There's a new guy running the show for ABC's drama
Dirty Sexy Money and his name is Daniel Cerone. Cerone replaces Josh Reims. As executive producer, Cerone will be working with creator Craig Wright (
Lost), as well as Greg Berlanti (
Brothers & Sisters), Matthew Gross and Bryan Singer (
House) -- so the show's got lots of first-class pedigree. Now they have to put it all together for the show.

The bitchy, back-stabbing, coke-snorting characters on BBC's
Footballers' Wives are coming to America. ABC has given the greenlight to the pilot for the Americanized version of the British soap drama. Instead of soccer wives, the American version will be NFL wives (natch). The BBC series chronicled how womens' lives changed when they married soccer superstars. Sounds like a companion to
Desperate Housewives? The original series ran for five seasons and it is currently airing on BBC America at 10 pm on Sundays.
The Hollywood Reporter is saying that Bryan Singer may direct the pilot. In case that name doesn't ring a bell, he's the director behind the first two
X-Men movies and last summer's
Superman Returns.

According to the UK site
Digital Spy, Bryan Singer, director of the summer blockbuster
Superman Returns, has signed a development deal with ABC. In the reported seven-figure deal, Singer will develop three pilot scripts for the network; the network is gauaranteeing Singer that at least one of them will end up being produced with him as the showrunner.
This isn't Singer's first TV venture; he was involved as an executive producer and director for
House. Let's hope whatever pilot comes out of this deal is closer to the
House aesthetic (and maybe that of Singer's first hit feature,
The Usual Suspects) than the comic-book genre he's been involved with lately. We already have
Heroes and
Smallville; that's plenty for me.
