I figure that since Bravo Do you like Top Chef Masters? Tough
Later this afternoon I'll have my What's On Tonight picks posted, but I did want to give Top Chef Masters fans a heads up about tonight's episode: there isn't one.For some reason, Bravo is replacing this week's episode of the cooking competition show with a special episode of The Fashion Show. And this isn't one of those deals where one show is put in place of another show but that other show is rescheduled to another night during the week, maybe in the slot of the first show. No, Top Chef Masters won't be seen at all this week (except for reruns of previous episodes, of course).
Fans will have to wait until next week for the next new episode. (And if you're wondering what's on tomorrow night at 10 in the regular time slot for The Fashion Show, it's a repeat of tonight's episode.)
Oh well. I'm not watching The Fashion Show so I guess I'll catch The Philanthropist.
The Real Housewives of NJ gets a second season
If I go to Hell after I die, I'm quite certain that part of my eternal punishment would be sitting in a room with all the Real Housewives of New Jersey for all eternity. Therefore the following piece of news is about as close to Hell on Earth as I can get: popular rumor has it that Bravo has renewed The Real Housewives of New Jersey for a second season.I was born and bred in New Jersey (those of you offering condolences can shut it right now. I like New Jersey). As a result of sharing my humble abode with someone of the female persuasion, I have been subjected to this program. I can personally attest that very few people in New Jersey actually act like these "housewives". If you're planning a vacation, please don't let the behaviors of these women put you off from visiting the Garden State.
However, to give credit, the program did lead to a funny sketch on Chelsea Lately. The video of that is after the jump.

Watch the NYC Prep preview here
Bravo's new show NYC Prep premieres on July 23. It follows a bunch of rich kids and the schools they go to (yes, lots of sex, drinking, and talk about money). There's one kid named "PC," and I really think they should have gotten another kid nicknamed "Mac." That would have been good. There must be at least one person with that nickname in the private schools of NYC. Here's the first episode. (You can also watch it on iTunes.)
Top Chef Masters: The Lost Supper - open thread
This week, Lost's Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof (as well as several writers) came to the Top Chef table to be served food by the contestants and judge them. They're big fans of the show (even joking that the quality of Lost has gone downhill since they've been discussing the shows on Thursday mornings), and this episode had a Lost-themed challenge. They could only use certain Dharma foods and stuff that you could find on the island. I've gotten used to the "four chefs compete" format, though that means we're not going to see some really talented, interesting chefs in the coming weeks.
Tonight's Real Housewives finale looks crazy, stupid
I hate when people refer to themselves in the third person, so when Teresa annoucnes "I'm just being myself. Being Teresa!" in the first clip below, it make me grit my teeth. But that's a very minor thing compared to everything else that seems to happen in tonight's season finale of Real Housewives of New Jersey, including yelling, talk of oral sex, table flipping, and pushing and shoving. What a classy group this is.

Previously on Top Chef: Lost
This should be fun. Damon Lindelof and Carton Cuse are big fans of Bravo's Top Chef, and this week they're actually going to make an appearance on the Top Chef Masters. The contestants (some have seen Lost and some haven't) have to make a meal for them. Here's a sneak peek.

Top Chef Masters: Episode One (series premiere) - open thread

So last night we had the premiere of Top Chef Masters, which is supposed to keep us satisfied until the regular Top Chef returns. But it's a different show. The judges are different, and the contestants are actually well-known, successful chefs already, so the food is going to be better and the arguing is going to be less. It's not bad. I was hoping for all of the contestants to compete at the same time and not be split up into groups like this, but it's actually refreshing to see the pros do it. What did you think?
Kathy Griffin has dinner with Lily Tomlin
This is a clip from an upcoming episode of My Life on the D-List. Kathy Griffin goes to see one her idols, Lily Tomlin, and then the two go out to dinner. But the interesting part of the clip is when Griffin talks about having a ten year ban on Late Night with Conan O'Brien and how it was just lifted (I assume this was filmed before Conan took over The Tonight Show). Griffin appears tonight on Letterman's show for the first time in twelve years so that ban was lifted too.
Here's a sneak peek at tonight's Top Chef Masters premiere
I'm not a big reality show fan, but if it involves food I might just watch it. Tonight Bravo debuts Top Chef Masters, which is Top Chef only with some of the best chefs in the country, including Wylie Dufresne, Rick Bayless, Cindy Pawlcyn, Anita Lo, and Art Smith. Here's a clip from the show. I wonder if this is going to be more foodie-oriented than trash talk/arguing-oriented?
Bravo's latest find is lost footage
You know, I have to tip my cap -- yes, I'm wearing one -- to Bravo. It seems to me that everything NBC does wrong with their programming, the NBC Universal cable net Bravo does right. Case in point is this new innovation, if you want to call it that, the lost footage episode. Suddenly, out of nowhere really, Bravo has been stretching their unscripted, reality shows by adding an extra show labeled The Lost Footage. The Real Housewives of New York City was the first I caught, but soon after there was Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List Lost Footage. Coming up is one on The Real Housewives of Orange County.

Get to know (and hate) the stars of Bravo's new prep school reality show
It's hard to tell which Bravo reality show to dislike the most. NYC Prep is in the running immediately. I can picture this getting a big following a la Gossip Girl. It has everything: money, sex, backstabbing, education, fashion. I want to say "where are their parents?" but I'm sure they OK'd all of this. The show starts on June 23.
My favorite line: "It's really hard to get into one of these exclusive prep schools because you have to be really strong academically but also very wealthy."

Bravo concocts The Real Housewives of D.C.
Remember that Barbra Streisand-Donna Summer disco duet, "Enough Is Enough"? That's what came to mind when I read that Bravo is planning another edition of The Real Housewives, this time D.C. Is there any end to Bravo's lack of innovation? Are there no new ideas out there that they have to spin out more housewives. How real they are remains debatable, if you ask me.Don't get me wrong. I've actually watched The Real Housewives of Orange County, as well as the New York City ladies and even the newest creation, those Jersey girls, The Real Housewives of New Jersey. The latter, in fact, are a hoot if you can get past the similarities to Carmela Soprano that imbue the entire series. I keep expecting Tony or Uncle Junior to pop up at one of their parties.

A star is born on Real Housewives of New Jersey (maybe)
I'm not a parent, but aren't all kids "always performing for people?" That's what Teresa says about her 7 year-old daughter Gia in this clip from Real Housewives of New Jersey. She takes the kid to audition for a role in a movie starring The Rock. I guess the road to stardom these days starts on reality shows.
Here's what you'll see on NBC (and CNBC, USA, Bravo, and Sci-Fi) tonight at 8
NBC Universal has just turned five years old, and I didn't get them a present. What do you get a giant international media and entertainment company? Tonight at 8 they're running the ad below, and not just on NBC. You'll also see it on other NBC Universal properties, including MSNBC, CNBC, USA, Bravo, and The Sci-Fi Channel. And if you're not in front a TV and happen to be in Times Square, you'll see it there too.
