Interesting piece over at The New York Observer that fans of How I Met Your Mother will probably agree with: why isn't this show a bigger hit?
Mark Lotto thinks the show is as good as Friends and deserves to be promoted more by CBS and talked about around the watercooler the next day at work. But he wonders why CBS isn't promoting it more (ads for the show are lacking and CBS didn't push it after the Super Bowl) and seems rather confused to hear that the show might indeed be canceled at the end of the current season.
While I don't think that HIMYM is as good as Friends (except for maybe the last couple of years), I do think it's a solid little show that should not be canceled. This is a show that could easily grow into a long-running staple for CBS. It has the characters, it has the writing, and it does what it does a lot better than most similar shows that have been on the air recently.

Yup, comic Wayne Brady is going to show up on CBS'
How I Met Your Mother, and
he'll play Barney's brother.
I know, I know, you're thinking, "but Brady is black and Harris is white!" Well, first, congrats on the observation! Second, if
Lost can make us believe that there's an invisible smoke monster and a second island all of the sudden that no one knew about, I think we can believe that Brady and Harris are brothers.
Adoption seems to be the most logical answer, though co-creator Carter Bays says "I feel like the less we say about it, the funnier it is" and that they have an interesting relationship.

(S02E01) Fans of
How I Met Your Mother all know how last season ended. It can all be summed up in one sentence: Ted and Robin got together and Lilly and Marshall broke up. So for the opener of season two, we pick up exactly where we left off last year. Ted and Robin are overjoyed that they're finally together, but they have to put that on the back burner while they try to nursemaid the shattered Marshall after the love of his life gave him his engagement ring and flew off to San Francisco.
Oh, and the kids are still there. Those two kids that the Bob Saget version of Ted talks to are still listening to his story, but their attention is kind of wavering. "Can you skip to the part where you meet mom? I feel like you've been talking for, like, a year," the girl tells Middle-Aged Ted. Uh huh. I'm with you on that one, sister. Hopefully, that little gimmick will slowly fade away this year so we can concentrate on our favorite five New York twenty-somethings.

Here's an interesting piece of trivia from
this
weekend's story about Neil Patrick Harris in
The New York Times. If he hadn't said yes to the role of
Barney on
How I Met Your Mother, the role would have been offered to Ralph Macchio.
Hmmm ...it's
easy to sit here and say, oh, it's good Harris got it, but who knows? Maybe Macchio would have been great in the role
too and would have served as sort of a resurgence for his acting career.
With all the
"Barneyisms," maybe the writers could have thrown in a funny "Wax on, wax off" reference.

I have a feeling I'm not going to like Robin for much longer. Just call it a
hunch, but I'd be willing to bet she's the reason that "long distance relationships don't work". And if she
hurts
me Ted...
This episode also moved the story along
towards Marshall and Lily's actual wedding, which is something I'm definitely looking forward to. Watching Lily try on
the "mullet of wedding dresses" was hilarious. Someone last week also mentioned that the past couple of
episodes have been kind of "Ted-lite", and I think that's been a pretty important part of why the show works
for me-- it's not just Ted's show. On with the show!
