(S08E14) As Homer Simpson might say, "The
Scrubs are going to the Bahamas!"
For eight years,
Scrubs hasn't ventured all that much away from Sacred Heart and it's surrounding environs. There was an RV-based road trip to Washington so J.D. can see Kim, and J.D. somehow ended up in Las Vegas during an extended fantasy/reality sequence. But other than that, the gang's lives have been confined to the claustrophobic world of the hospital.
But Bill Lawrence must have figured, what the heck, it's the last season, so he shipped everyone down to the Bahamas for a well-deserved location shoot in paradise. And, I've got to tell you, part one is the funniest episode of the season (I've seen part two, and it ain't bad either). I'll tell you why after the jump.

I promised myself - promised, promised, promised - that I wouldn't write another story about Anna Nicole Smith. But then I saw this video, and I had to post this. If it stops just one person from watching another second of Entertainment Tonight, then this post is worth it.
The video is from Entertainment Tonight, who had EXCLUSIVE! access to the funeral in the Bahamas (*cough* $$$$$ *cough*), and while we get all of the expected weeping and slow motion and doves being released, we also see various friends and relatives of Anna Nicole taking a shovel and grabbing dirt out of the back of a wheelbarrow. I'm sure this is done at funerals, but it just seems odd to have everyone at the funeral grab the shovel and join in. After a while it seems like less a tribute than just doing some maintenance work at the cemetery.
Pay special attention to the job Anna Nicole's mom does.

If you think our political system is wacky, check out the Bahamas. There, Anna Nicole Smith has actually become an early election issue. Smith moved to the Bahamas in July and gave birth to her daughter there in September. Her son also died the same day. Lawmakers are at each others' throats, claiming that the government is giving the former Playboy model special treatment. She received fast track treatment to declare residency in the Bahamas and the coroner also skipped over a backlog of investigations to determine the cause of her son's death (he died of a lethal mix of methadone and anti-depressants). Opposition lawmakers, who want to take control of the government in next year's elections, are calling for the resignation of the Immigration Minister who granted her residency. Now, thanks to Anna Nicole, one of the main issues for the opposition party is a review of requirements for legal residency.

Just when you think that Anna Nicole Smith's life couldn't get any more convoluted, something happens to make things look even more complicated. Last night, Howard K. Stern, Smith's long-time lawyer, went on
Larry King Live to discuss the
death of Smith's son Daniel, and revealed to King that he is the father of her newborn baby girl. According to
this article, Stern and Smith decided to move to the Bahamas to start a new life away from the media, and that he and Smith intend to marry "at some point." They decided to name their daughter Dannie Lynn Hope.
Stern also gave some details of Daniel Smith's last hours. The day after he arrived in Nassau, he complained that he was really tired, then Anna Nicole soon noticed Daniel wasn't breathing. As resuscitation efforts were being done, "She stayed there and we were at the foot of the bed and she was hugging Daniel's legs," said Stern. "And she was praying to Jesus and she was telling Jesus to take her and not take Daniel." Daniel's exact cause of death is
still being investigated.Posted Sep 11th 2006 11:01AM by Joel Keller

Daniel Smith, the twenty-year-old son of Anna Nicole Smith, was found dead yesterday in the Bahamas hospital where his mother had just had a baby.
According to the AP, there is currently no word on how he passed away; Anna Nicole's attorney, Howard K. Stern, says the cause is under investigation.
Remember that Daniel was a prominent player in Anna Nicole's reality series
The Anna Nicole Show, so he's not unfamiliar to TV viewers. Of course, the death of such a young man, compared with the wacky life his mother leads, is going to make people speculate right away that drugs were involved. But at this point, no one knows the cause.
By the way, the picture above was taken by the AP in 1999, when Daniel was 13.
