When a show becomes a cult hit, what better way for the franchise to make extra cash then by selling all the props and sets from the show? It worked for
Star Trek, among others.
This is likely why NBC Universal will be hosting its second
live and online auction of the remaining props from
Battlestar Galactica from May 8th to the 10th. They even sent us a promotional catalog of the props available for the event.
The catalog itself looks terrific and may be a collector's item all its own. It's done in the hexagonal paper style of the show and looks incredible.

Did you ever watch
Late Night with Conan O'Brien and wish you had that Gen. Eisenhower coffee mug that just sat oh so daintily on the cusp of your television to decorate your home decor?
First of all, if you said yes, you have the gayest living room decor since police raided Paul Reubens' home.
Second of all, here's your chance. Conan's mug and other pieces of the
Late Night set have been stripped for parts and put on auction for
the House to Home Project, a charity that helps families who have lost their homes to natural disasters.

Yesterday at Christie's in New York,
Tony Soprano's costumes went up for auction. You not going to believe how much money a bloody wifebeater goes for these days. One fan of the show paid $43,750 for the outfit pictured to the right: a bloody tank, a stained button down shirt, and pants. The outfit was the one the Jersey mob boss wore when Uncle Junior mistakenly shot him.
Also up for bid was a four-piece set containing boxers, a robe, a sleeveless undershirt, and a pair of slippers (a costume Gandolfini donned many times on the show). It took home $21,250. Another robe (the tan one with an "S" monogram that Gandolfini wore in the pilot) went for $13.750. Overall, the iconic mafia boss's clothes brought in over $185,000.

Spitting Image was a satirical series focusing on politics and pop culture that aired in the UK from 1984 to 1996. American audiences may have caught a few primetime specials featuring the grotesque puppets, but other than those specials and Genesis' video for "Land of Confusion," the characters never really took hold in the US. It's somewhat of a shame, because they were really funny, and a lot better than D.C. Follies, Sid and Marty Krofft's lame attempt at political puppet humor. Not even Fred Willard could save that series.
Recently, two Spitting Image puppets, Margaret Thatcher and Gordon Brown, were purchased at an auction for £5,040 and £4,800. Had I known they were up for sale, I would have bid on them myself. What's £5,040 translate to in American dollars? Like a buck fifty? Or is that just a fantasy I've concocted to convince myself I could ever actually own one of those puppets?

Remember when the General Lee (or one of many versions) went up for auction on eBay recently and someone finally won the auction with a bid of $9,900,500?
Well, the person who made that bid, one William Fisher, has disappeared, along with the alleged $9,900,500 he was supposedly going to pay for the 1969 Dodge Charger owned by actor John Schneider (Bo Duke). The car itself was never used on the original series, but it did appear in the TV movie Dukes Go to Hollywood.

The General Lee broke a sales record on eBay this week. Actor John Schneider, who played Bo Duke on
The Dukes of Hazzard, put up his version of the General Lee and it sold for $9,900,500. If the bidder actually pays the money, it'll be the biggest ticket item ever sold on eBay. Schneider says he's stunned, because he only expected $3 million at the most for the car. He says he'll use the extra cash for a vacation and to fund a sequel to a movie he recently made.
As
I mentioned earlier this week, the 1969 Dodge Charger that Schneider put up for sale was not featured in the television show, but it did make an appearance in the movie
Dukes Go To Hollywood. It has signatures from all the original cast members and it actually drives! Schneider has taken it to charity events and even raced it.

Ever wanted to get a hold of one of Isaac's paintings? If so, you'll be happy to hear that NBC has decided to auction some of the paintings seen on
Heroes and made by renowned graphic illustrator Tim Sale.
Vivi Zigler, Executive Vice President NBC Digital Entertainment and New Media, announced in a press release that NBC was proud of this event as it would not only allow fans a chance to own a piece of the hit show but also benefit the Epilepsy Foundation. This foundation was chosen because
Heroes' cast member Greg Grunberg is highly involved with it since his son Jake suffers from epilepsy.

Who knew that Dick Clark was a pack rat? It makes sense, considering he's been in the presence of stars ranging from Little Richard to Jay-Z; if I were in his shoes, I'd like to save momentos from those occasions too. But according to this
AP article, he also has almost every issue of
Life magazine and
Playboy ever produced and many years of
Fortune magazine. I swear, if he wasn't rich enough to rent out a warehouse to store all of this, he'd be one of those guys buried alive by his stacks of newspapers.
But I guess he's decided to simplify; he's putting a lot of this music memorabilia up for auction, including the first microphone he used on
American Bandstand fifty years ago, a Michael Jackson sequined glove, and a bass guitar Paul McCartney played during the Beatles era. It's a no-reserve auction, and most of the profits will go to the T.J. Martell Foundation. No word on if his huge rubber band ball will go on sale, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

All sorts of goodies from some of our favorite Fox shows are currently being auctioned off
on eBay. For example,
Gob's Segway from
Arrested Development is currently up for grabs-- although, the bid is now $3,851.00. There's also the
fake pregnancy belly worn by Julia Louis-Dreyfus during season 2, with a current bid of $167.50. And you can get
Tobias' headshot, if you have more than $202.
Most of the items are costumes or jewelry. There's also a bunch of stuff from
Angel,
24, and
Prison Break, including Wentworth Miller's
blue prison jumpsuit.

Remember when we reported
earlier today about the portrait of Stephen Colbert that's up for auction? Turns out that they didn't find a painter who could draw hands; it's just that Stephen took a new photo in front of the old portrait.
Which means... the old portrait is
also a photo! Netscape's Dakota Smith
called up Comedy Central and found out from a spokeswoman that the old portrait is a digital photo made to look like a painted portrait via digital manipulation. Not a bad job, I must say.
Anyway, the
bidding continues on eBay for the next nine days; the bogus bids like the one we described earlier today have been removed and the highest current bid is $6200.

While celebrating the first anniversary of
The Colbert Report last night, Stephen Colbert unveiled a new portrait of himself, replacing the old one that hung over the set's fireplace all year. This year's portrait has three images of Colbert, as opposed to the two that were in the old portrait. In addition, they apparently found an artist who "knows how to paint hands," since last year's portrait painter decided he liked painting Stephen with his hands in his pockets or with his arms crossed.
So what's to become of the old portrait? Colbert is putting it up for auction, with proceeds going to Save the Children. Information is at the
Colbert Nation website, but the direct link to the portrait's eBay page
is here. One problem: the current bid right now is $99,999,999. Not sure if that bid was entered by Colbert's hench-staff or by a goofy fan with a mean streak. But, as far as I can tell, the auction looks legitimate. Good luck!

From the "sad and pathetic file" comes
this story. There was an auction on eBay to spend an entire day with Paula Abdul ... and NOBODY bid on it. Ouch. The prize package included two first class tickets to Los Angeles, a $2,225 shopping spree and a backstage meeting with the
American Idol judge. The proceeds were intended to go to multiple sclerosis charities, but the minimum asking price of $26,000 was just too much. Fox pulled the auction off eBay after four days.
Why wouldn't anyone bid on that package? Besides the price, maybe it's because Paula seems A) Drunk, B) Weird, and/or C) High Maintenance. Or, maybe it's because of the false advertising. The auction said the winner would spend a day with Paula, but really it's only a backstage meeting. Sounds like something a teeager would like. A teenager without $26,000.

I don't get to talk about music much here, this being a television blog and all, but once in awhile those two worlds mesh and I get to tell everyone I'm a big fan of Badly Drawn Boy, whose new album
Born in the UK will be released on October 16. The video for the song "Nothing's Gonna Change Your Mind" shows Badly Drawn Boy, (a.k.a. Damon Gough) "driving" a car that's operated by a piano keyboard where the dashboard should be. Now, you can bid for the chance to
win the car on eBay, but only if you live in the UK. So there you go, UK readers, don't ever say I never did anything for you. Unfortunately, the auction ends really soon, but don't fret too much, it's not like the car actually works or anything. To ease your suffering, I've placed the music video after the jump. Let the soothing tones soothe your savage soul. Besides, it's not like you couldn't glue a keyboard to the inside of your car and get the same effect.
