David Letterman almost got kicked in the head once - VIDEOS

LettermanI think we can all agree that the infamous Andy Kaufman/Jerry Lawler incident on the old Late Night with David Letterman show (where Kaufman and Lawler got into an argument and then a punch was thrown) was staged. But when it comes to another infamous incident from the show, where Crispin Glover demonstrated his kicking technique next to Letterman's head? I think that was weird and real.

The Glover interview is on Cracked's Letterman's most hilariously awkward moments list. Most of them are actually from his current CBS show. Only two of them (Glover and cartoonist Harvey Pekar) are from the old NBC show. Other awkward interviews listed (with videos) include Madonna, John McCain, and Michael Richards (with special awkward cohort, Jerry Seinfeld!).

12 craziest moments on Letterman

Late Show with David Letterman logoThe blog The Top Socialite has posted what the author believes were the 12 craziest moments from the Letterman Show (both the NBC and CBS versions). I'm not certain exactly what criteria the author uses, but some of the segments are pretty damn funny and show Dave in his talented prime.

It's interesting to note that two of these segments made it to major motion pictures. The scene with Andy Kaufman throwing the coffee on Jerry Lawler was in Man On The Moon starring Jim Carrey and the segment with Harvey Pekar appeared in American Splendor (it appeared in the comic book too).

Stump the King - Taxi

The Mighty HeroesWell, I finally found a question obscure enough to stump everyone.

Last week I asked...
On Michael Chiklis' short-lived sitcom, Daddio, what performer did his neighbor, Bobick, play way too loud on his stereo?

The answer is Tom Jones.

Here's another question from a reader that isn't quite as tough...
Luis Antonio Amaro wrote, "I need help on a 80's cartoon. People think I'm crazy when I mention this. A cartoon about a group of people whom changed into superheros. One was a sailor who turns into a rope, a clockstore owner who turns into an owl and I remember the leader being a baby who would change in his crip and takes off wearing a blanket for a cape and a baby bottle in his hand. I know theirs more charaters involve. Please say I'm not crazy."

David Letterman turns 60 today: yet another sign that I'm getting old

David LettermanRemember back in those heady days of the early- to mid-eighties, when David Letterman was considered to be the young, hip alternative to Johnny Carson? You remember... while Johnny was doing his 4,132nd Carnac sketch and putting on daring musical acts like Paul Anka, Dave was conducting elevator races, tossing watermelons off roofs, showing Jerry Lawler slap Andy Kaufman, and putting on bands like the Talking Heads.

Well, hold on to your bongs, Baby Boomers, and grab on to that flannel, Gen Xers: Letterman turns 60 today.

Yikes.

Zach Galifianakis on tour

Zach GalifianakisThe furriest member of the Comedians of Comedy and Dog Bites Man team Zach Galifianakis is embarking on a fall tour.

If you've missed out on Galifianakis' more recent outings, you may remember him from the short-lived VH1 talk show Late World with Zach.

If you haven't seen Galifianakis live, you're in for some of the most experimental stand-up to hit the stage since Andy Kaufman took Carnegie Hall out for milk and cookies.
