Here are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow. Now
this is a DVD release week. Lots of stuff for every type of TV fan. I'm definitely getting
Mad Men (and I'm going to watch all of the episodes again immediately to get ready for next month's launch of season 3), and I'm tempted to get the season 8 set of
Bewitched, though I'll probably wait for the inevitable complete series set. I've never seen
The Guns of Will Sonnett, but friends tell me it was good. Hopefully that's on Hulu or AOL Video or Retro TV so I don't have to actually buy it yet.
- American Gladiators - Season 1
- Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations - Collection 4
- Bewitched - Season 8
- Bleach - Uncut Box Set Vol. 3: The Rescue
- ER - Season 11

OK, I actually loved watching the latest version of
American Gladiators on NBC, but even I think this is a weird idea. But it's actually happening.
American Gladiators: The Movie is in the works, according to show creator Johnny Ferraro.
Ferraro says
American Gladiators was originally conceived as a film more than 20 years ago, but instead became a "TV phenomenon." I'm not sure how a game show that's basically
WWE Smackdown meets
Double Dare was originally conceived as a film, but what do I know. I like to watch
American Gladiators.

Are you wondering where some of your favorite shows like
The Moment of Truth, the new
American Gladiators and
According to Jim are in your TV Guide? If so, please stand as far away from me as you can and try not to breathe any oxygen in my direction.
These and other shows
were left out of the big four's (unless you count the CW) lineups for the new 2009 schedules, but have not been announced as officially canceled yet.
That means these shows are sitting in the death chamber with baited breath for a last minute reprieve or a death certificate. If there is a God watching over us, then these are the shows that will get the needle.

Our Monday morning roundup of a half dozen things TV Squad readers - and TV fans in general - will be talking about this week.1. The Olympics. NBC, along with CNBC and MSNBC and USA and the web, will have approximately 477,312 hours of coverage. (Starts Friday.)
2. Primeval. New show about a rip in time that lets dinosaurs come through to modern England. Is
this one of them? (Premieres Saturday at 9 on BBC America.)
3. The season finales of American Gladiator and Nashville Star. People do still care about these shows, right? (Tonight on NBC.)
4. So You Think You Can Dance. The season finale. We know what happens to
Idol winners, but what happens to the winners of this show? (Wednesday at 8 on FOX.)
5. I Want To Work For Diddy. I'm not saying that. It's the name of a new reality show. (Premieres tonight at 9 on VH-1.)
6. Million Dollar Listing. One of the stars was
arrested last week, just before the second season premiere. There's no such thing as bad publicity, as the saying goes. (Tuesday at 11 on Bravo.)

American Gladiators announced a new cast member today -- "The Beast." He'll be there for the semi-finals. The final 12 contenders will have to deal with this "monster" (that's the term from the press release) to get to the ultimate prize.
Those of you who have watched the show know it's really the reverse treadmill thingie that poses the biggest obstacle between any contender and his/her victory. But The Beast should terrify a few of the hopefuls. He stands at seven-feet-tall and weighs 318 lbs. From the picture, you can see that 200 of those pounds are in his neck.

At least that's the somewhat sarcastic conclusion I'm jumping to. As I started watching the east coast feed, an email bounced into the TV Squad inbox from reader 'Jay.' He noted that when he tried to record The Middleman on his PC, he was greeted with an error message. I had to wait three hours for the regular airing on the left coast, but I dusted off an old Media Center PC and got that very same error, as you see in the picture. I like to think that Wendy is showing her shock and outrage at the snafu in that shot. But wait, there's more ... after the jump.

And the winner for The Jeopardy Award for 2008, given to the game show requiring the most skills, is ... American Gladiators!
Out of the five nominees, AG not only got the most votes from the TV Squad staff but also our readers (getting about 50 votes more than Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader?).
The show may not require a lot of brain power, but it is so physically demanding that some competitors leave the arena seriously injured.
Each week, four competitors (two women and two men) test their physical and mental strength, endurance and confidence in a series of wacky and challenging events such as the Joust, the Wall, Hang Tough and The Eliminator.
