A little info about Peter from the Folger's Christmas ad
This is the way the web works.
I'm over at Adjab today doing some work, and I put up a post about favorite and least favorite christmas commercials. So I start to list mine, and I remember that classic ad for Folger's coffee they used to run every year. The one where "Peter" comes home early in the morning and wakes his family up by making coffee. So I surf around to see if I can find a video of it. No such luck. But in my search I came across this Yahoo answers page, which has some info about the commercial (it first aired in 1982!), including the names of the cast. Peter was played by Greg Wrangler, so I head on over to the IMdb and check out his resume. He's been on a ton of stuff, including Friends, ER, All My Children, The West Wing, The King of Queens, and recent gigs on Heroes and CSI:NY.
If anyone can find a link to a video of the commercial, let me know. I saw it last year but haven't seen it this year yet.
Update: Reader Hmmm let us know there is a video of the commercial here.
Funny Zucker campaign ad
David Zucker, one of the men behind Airplane!, The Naked Gun, and, probably my favorite, Top Secret! created a hysterical campaign ad for the Republican party that features a faux Madeleine Albright making nicey-nice with evil dictators and terrorist while they continue to wreak havoc on the world. Drudge reports that the ad was rejected by the GOP for being too over the top. I find it hard to tell if the ad is really meant as a slam against Democrats, or his own satirical view of how Republicans see anyone who's opposed to them. Did Zucker really think this would be used, or was he just having some fun? I don't really know, I just sit back and enjoy it, because it is really funny. Check it out after the jump.

T-Mobile pulls ads from Rescue Me, Sunny in Philly
The American Family Association has convinced T-Mobile to pull its advertising from FX because of the adult-themed subjects covered in Rescue Me and It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. According to AdAge, Don Wildmon and his supporters in the American Family Association "bombarded" T-Mobile and other advertisers with e-mails to complain about advertising on two programs that the organization does not support (what do they support??). T-Mobile CEO Robert Dotson said the e-mails prompted him to actually watch the programming that they're supporting through advertisements. In a letter to the AFA, Dotson says, "Candidly, some of the choices we have made are inconsistent with who we are and what we stand for." Consequently, Dotson pulled all advertising from FX. So far this year, T-Mobile spent $1.2 million on advertising on FX and it is the network's 21st largest advertiser.I wonder whether this will backfire on the AFA. Granted, it succeeded in pulling advertising (they got lucky, says Joel over on AdJab). But, this news may cause people to tune in to see what all the fuss is about.
Volkswagen ads are freaking me out

I know this is something we usually reserve for AdJab, but I'm curious about what all you TV fanatics think. Have you seen the new 'Safe Happens' advertisements by Volkswagen? They feature people driving in a car, having a normal conversation about a movie or the overuse of the word 'like' and then - WHAM! - all of a sudden another car slams into the Volkswagen. It scares the hell out of me every single time. And, interestingly, when I was driving around running errands today, I kept thinking about it. I was tense behind the wheel, as if I was about to get hit by an oncoming vehicle. I guess that's

Upfronts in your face
"It'd be kind of like the NYSE ignoring all new technologies as the world evolved, and they watched markets like the NASDAQ march on by, snickering all the way. Meanwhile, when folks weren't on the trading floor, they'd be crying in their beer because they knew that the world was going to crash down on them, and using noise-canceling headsets on the trading floor wasn't going to be the fix that made the market work." After having watched Vidlit's delightful little commentary on our yearly, frenzied, network battles, Tom Biro over at AdJab weighs in on the woes of the recently handicapped Upfront.
