New TV on DVD releases this week

The ShieldHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

If you loved The Rockford Files and you own the season sets, you'll probably want to buy Volume 1 of the movies (four in this batch) that is being released tomorrow. They weren't as good as the series, of course (sort of like the Spenser: For Hire movies that Robert Urich did after that series ended), but they're actually pretty good.

And season 6 of Kate & Allie is out. That reminds me: I still have to get season 5.

  • Afro Samurai - Complete Murder Sessions
  • The Clone Wars - Season 1
  • Doctor Who - The War Games and The Black Guardian Trilogy
  • Edge of Darkness - The Complete BBC Series

FringeHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

Every week I see tons and tons of TV DVDs released, and the only thing I can think of is "when is _______ going to be released?" Sure, I'll get The Office this week (but borrow someone else's Fringe), but I don't really see anything else that cries out "buy me for your collection!" I'm still waiting for Spenser: For Hire and Ed.

  • Alvin & The Chipmunks - Star Wreck
  • The Alvin Show - The Very First Alvin Show
  • Beany & Cecil - Special Edition: Vol. 2
  • Criminal Minds - Season 4
  • Dog The Bounty Hunter - Best of Season 5
  • Fringe - Season 1

Super Friends DVDHere are the new TV DVDs, in stores tomorrow.

I have to admit that I had no idea what The City was when I saw that season one was coming out on DVD this week (an Amazon exclusive). Is it the show Loving became in the late 90s? No, it's the spinoff of The Hills. Oh yes, let me run out and buy two copies of this. One to play until it wears out, and the other to have on my shelf when I can't play the first one anymore.

I have to pick up some of these Super Friends sets at some point. I really loved that show in the 70s. I think these "lost episodes" might be from the 80s.

  • 90210 - Season 1
  • Adam-12 - Season 3
  • Are You Being Served? - Complete Collection

Saturday Morning: Filmation (Part 3) -- VIDEOS

He-Man was a syndication success for FilmationThe 1980s was the beginning of the end for Filmation Studios ... sort of. For, while their Saturday morning fortunes began to fade and eventually disappear, their successes turned to the burgeoning syndication market. It was there, starting in the early 1980s, that the studio introduced us to a sword-wielding warrior who became an animated legend.

Unfortunately, the studio's success in syndication would be a small, but powerful, blip for the two-decade old company. By the end of the 1980s the studio would fade into memory as the company was broken up and its talent moved onto bigger and better things.

Eureka: Noche de Sueños

Jack has a classic dream - that everyone nearby happens to share
(S02E06) This was the most believable Eureka introduction yet. Sure, it was nice to see Allison make some effort for Carter, but Carter pulling someone out of a wrecked truck just after he saves Fargo from its swerving geek crushing clutches.

Britt Lomond dead at 80

Guy Williams, Britt LomondLomond played Captain Monastario, the evil bad guy who tried to capture Zorro on the 1950s series Zorro. He was a veteran of World War II (three Purple Hearts, a silver star and a bronze star) and appeared in several movies and TV shows as well, including Mission: Impossible, I Spy, Simon and Simon, The Waltons, Falcon Crest, and the original Battlestar Galactica. He died in Huntington Beach, CA last week.

He was actually huge in Europe. So much so that the Netherlands issued a stamp two years ago with his picture on it.
