Ah, Season Four. You were so good to us, even though you were slightly shorted by that pesky writers strike.
Lost wasn't as impacted as a lot of other shows because the creators had already gotten the okay to do three shorter seasons before any of this happened. Sure they lost a little bit of time, but not enough to have really impacted the show.
And Season Four gave us such pivotal moments. The introduction of the freighties, including some really good and interesting characters. The return of Michael. The identities of the Oceanic Six. An in-depth examination of what happened to them after the island in more flash forwards. The man in the cabin. Ben moves the island. And the identity of the man in the casket. So much happened in fourteen short episodes, but still that's not enough. To fill out the set, we've got two full discs of extras.

We've already discussed some of
this season's letdowns, and now it's time for the good stuff. Even the pickiest
Lost fan must acknowledge that season four was phenomenal. A lot of things could have gone wrong this season. The writers had to incorporate an entirely new timeline into the show, deal with strike-related delays, and ease another group of characters into a huge ensemble cast.
Instead of falling short of expectations, this season surpassed them. I probably could have devoted separate posts to each of the following highlights. As usual, please share your own praise for this season of
Lost in the comments section. I didn't come close to covering everything that made this season incredible.

(S04E12) I completely understand why Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse needed an extra hour for the finale. The first of three hours had so much information and moved to so many different locations, and I still feel like we've barely scratched the surface. It's going to be a long two weeks. That's all I have to say.

(S04E10) The writers gave us a break after last week's action- and information-packed episode. While Jack struggled with appendicitis, we got another look at his future off the island. Three of the other members of the Oceanic Six turned up, and Jack learned that there's no escaping a love triangle. Back on the island, Claire had an unexpected visitor.

(S04E08) We're going into a five-week Lost hiatus, and I'm extremely thankful that this wasn't the season finale. "Meet Kevin Johnson" wasn't a bad episode, but I couldn't have waited until 2009 for a follow-up. This episode did have its moments. We learned more about the island's connection to its inhabitants, Michael's time on the mainland, and there was (at least) one death. That should keep us busy for the next month or so, right?

(S03E21) This episode was all about building suspense for the big season finale, and mission accomplished. Several big questions were answered, but not the one that fans were hoping for. If we weren't at the end of the season, I would complain about not getting an immediate update on Locke, but I can wait one more week. After Desmond's upsetting prediction, there had to be another Charlie-centric episode, and this one was surprising--to say the least.
The Flashback
Charlie's flashback was made up of his life's greatest hits--his favorite experiences and memories. His first great moment was hearing Driveshaft's "You All Everybody" playing on the radio for the first time. Charlie was close to quitting the band on the way to their gig in Clitheroe (I'm sure Clitheroe's residents loved the shout-out) when the band's luck finally improved.

This week's Lost audio podcast was full of information about the rest of Season Three. Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse previewed next week's episode, "D.O.C.," and answered questions about recent episodes. Actors Daniel Dae Kim and Yunjin Kim also discussed their theories about the paternity of Sun's child.
- Yunjin Kim and Daniel Dae Kim each thought they knew the truth about the father of Sun's baby. It turns out that each actor was given a different answer from producers.
- The actors were surprised at fan's reactions to "The Glass Ballerina." Some viewers believed that Jae Lee was pushed to his death, but Yunjin Kim confirmed that he did, in fact, commit suicide. She said that the script made the suicide far more clear, but that the episode was edited in a way that made Jae Lee's death more ambiguous.

The New Zealand Herald recently interviewed Lost's Yunjin Kim, and the actress talked about her transformation from the "Korean Julia Roberts" to a part in an American ensemble drama. She also offered her opinion of Sun's character development over the last few seasons. Among the interview's highlights:
- Kim takes pride having crossed over to Hollywood roles, as she is the first Korean actress to do so.
- She is open to the possibility that Sun's baby might be "a monster" produced by the island.

New seasons are starting and you know what that means. Promotion, promotion, promotion. In the ever more crowded war for our eyeballs, any publicity a show can get helps.
Not to be outdone by anyone, those clever publicists over at
Lost have landed the cover of the new Stuff magazine, on newsstands now, for Yunjin Kim. The beautiful Korean actress talks with them about top secret scripts and Hawaii's huge flying insects. And, of course, since this is Stuff Magazine, she also does a sexy photoshoot in various bikinis. More pictures, bigger ones too, as well as video of the bikini shoot can be found on the
Stuff website.
The issue also has a feature on the women of
Lost. There is no new info there for those of you digging for clues as you wait for the big premiere. It's simply an excuse to publish sexy pictures of all the
Lost women while delivering the bare essentials about their characters. It even includes Michelle Rodriguez, just to show you where their priorities are. But hey, this is Stuff, not TV Guide. We kind of know that going in.
