Ratings update: actually, CBS won premiere week

CBS logoUntil this week, it was assumed that ABC had won the ratings battle for the first week of the new fall season. But now that they've counted DVR playback, it looks like it was actually CBS that won that week.

But it was close after all the numbers were counted. CBS averaged 12.5 million viewers, while ABC averaged 12.4 million. NBC averaged 10.5 million, FOX averaged 7.3 million, and I think The CW had some shows on that week too.

Wednesday ratings: Pushing Daisies is highest-rated debut at 8pm

Pushing DaisiesWell, looks like all the hype and critical acclaim for Pushing Daisies worked. The show was not only the highest-rated new show in the 8pm slot this season, it was the third highest-rated new show of the year, period, right after Bionic Woman and Private Practice (this rating includes live viewing plus DVR stats).

On the night, ABC was the big winner (number one in 18-49 and households) with their lineup of Pushing Daisies, Private Practice, and Dirty Sexy Money. CBS was next (number two in households and 18-49) with Kid Nation, Criminal Minds, and CSI: NY. NBC was a close third (both 18-49 and households) with Deal Or No Deal, Bionic Woman, and Life. FOX was next (fourth in both) with Back To You, 'Til Death, and Kitchen Nightmares. And The CW was fifth, as always (in both categories), with America's Next Top Model and Gossip Girl.

Bionic Woman dropped around 30% from its debut and Life was down 28% from it's debut. Ouch.

Hollywood worried about new season already

Katee SackhoffHollywood is the most impatient entity in the entire galaxy. Industry experts and execs are already worried that the new season isn't living up to expectations.

Please note that we are one week into the new season.

There are only two new shows so far that have shown any strength: Bionic Woman and Private Practice. Of course, they've only had one episode each, less than a week ago, so who knows if those numbers are even solid? Returning shows, such as Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, and CSI: Miami are still big ratings-getters, but even their numbers are down. ABC, CBS, NBC are down in the 18-49 demo too

Sunday ratings: ABC and NBC come out on top

Brothers & SistersABC and NBC both did very well on the first real Sunday night battle of the fall season, tying for the top spot in the 18-49 demographic. ABC had the season premiere of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (two episodes), Desperate Housewives, and Brothers & Sisters, while NBC had Football Night In America and the Giants/Eagles game.

Thursday ratings: Grey's Anatomy rules, Office gets best numbers ever

The Office

The first big Thursday ratings battle was won by Grey's Anatomy, but CBS won overall for the night with their lineup of Survivor: China and the season premieres of CSI and Without A Trace.

ABC was a close second, even though Ugly Betty was down 20% from it's premiere last season. After Betty, the network had the season premiere of Grey's and the series premiere of Big Shots. Grey's was down 20% from last season too, but still won the time slot. Big Shots won the 10pm race, though it lost viewers halfway through to Without A Trace and and ER.

Tuesday ratings: House powers FOX to a win

Hugh LaurieEverybody loves that cranky doctor over on FOX!

The season opener of House helped FOX win the first big Tuesday ratings battle of the year. The combo of House and the season opener of Bones at 8 made FOX the number one network for the night.

In second place was The CW. Oh, just kidding! Actually, ABC was second, with another installment of Dancing with the Stars (how many times is this show on a week anyway?) and Boston Legal. NBC was third, with two hours of The Biggest Loser and Law and Order: SVU. CBS was fourth, with NCIS, The Unit, and Cane. And then comes The CW, with Beauty and the Geek and Reaper.

Here are all the numbers and other nitty gritty so you can see who won each time slot and how it compares to last season.
