There are two things you may or may not believe about Monk. One is the fact that it is now entering its seventh season on USA Network (season premiere on Friday, July 18th). The other is that the series will be celebrating its 100th episode this year, making it the grandaddy of the 'Characters Welcome' slate of original programming on the network.
This will be an interesting season for Mr. Monk. With the death of Stanley Kamel back in April, Monk will be getting a new doctor this year in the form of Hector Elizondo. In addition to that, Monk's search for his wife's killer will intensify after a big piece of the puzzle was revealed during last season's finale. Throw in guest appearances by Robert Loggia, Brad Garrett and Eric McCormick, and this could be a big season for the show.

Either an Emmy isn't worth very much these days, or Hollywood actresses are finding that the publicity from spurning a nomination is worth more than the nomination itself. First
Grey's Anatomy star -- and last year's Emmy winner -- Katherine Heigl removed her name from consideration for an Emmy in 2008, and now another has followed suit.
Lindsay Lohan is not submitting her Ugly Betty performance for Emmy consideration. What? You don't remember Lindsay's performance, those few minutes of a flashback when Betty recalls being used as a dodge ball target in high school? Yeah, Lindsay really put in Emmy-worthy work there!
This is so ridiculous when it comes to Lindsay. There was no chance she'd be nominated, so removing her name is a stunt. On the other hand, Heigl's move is a real slap in the face to the writers of
Grey's Anatomy.

With the untimely death of actor
Stanley Kamel, USA Network and the producers of
Monk were compelled to find another actor to play a psychiatrist for the OCD detective.
TV Guide has gotten the exclusive word that
Hector Elizondo has been cast as Monk's new shrink. The veteran actor -- you'll recognize him from every Garry Marshall movie from
Pretty Woman to
The Princess Diaries -- was most recently on
Cane. As Michael Ausiello points out, if Hector's doing
Monk, chances are that CBS has officially canned
Cane, even if they haven't announced it yet.

I need a little help this week...
"There was an episode of Wings where it was kind of an homage to Casablanca or Dragnet. This was a very funny episode but I don't know what season or episode. Two lines that may help you out. In the episode they all talk in a monotone voice. Joe (Tim Daly) says at one point "Why the hell am I talking like this". Also, someone says to Antonio, "You Scrapachi?" mispronouncing his last name. If you can help please do. Regards, Ian McCurdy"

As
Bob mentioned,
Monk kicks off its fifth season this evening on USA. I'm a late comer to the show and only started watching it
recently. Why I didn't start watching this dry, witty show when it began is really anyone's guess. Nevertheless, I've
been using the power of Tivo to catch up. In fact, my Tivo is currently in the process of recording a
Monk marathon on USA. Monkheads both
new and old will also be happy to know that USA has also bought a sixth season of the series, so we'll be able to
follow the adventures of the obsessive-compulsive detective who hates being touched for at least the next couple of
years.
