I haven't been here from the beginning, so I don't know the exact number of times actress and singer Katey Sagal has sat down to talk to someone from our humble site. But within the last year, someone Squadder has either called her up on the phone or bumped into her in person to chat her up about
the return of Futurama or her more serious but equally kick-ass role on
Sons of Anarchy.
I'm seriously thinking that we need to institute some kind of frequent visitor punch card that rewards stars with a free pizza, a round of drinks or half off a new muffler (not including labor) for their 10th interview.
Sagal was nice enough to talk to us yet again in anticipation of the new season of
Sons of Anarachy that premieres this tonight at 10 p.m. Eastern/9 p.m. Central on FX. We talked about her character Gemma's place in SAMCRO and what she has to endure for the club, and why women are such big fans of the show.

I'm still not sold on that show title;
Terriers makes me think of little dogs yipping and running around. But FX and Shawn Ryan created magic with
The Shield, and Ted Griffin made
Ocean's Eleven so much fun. So I'm really excited about the show. My excitement can even withstand the news that
Donal Logue (Life) has been cast in the lead role of Terriers.
I've never connected with Logue. I thought
Grounded for Life was mostly crap, and he wasn't as "amazing" as the critics told me he was going to be in
Knights of Prosperity. He has done better in some of his dramatic work. Maybe I'm just bitter that the hype machine told me
Knights was going to be the greatest sitcom of the last millennium, and the next.

Television is a vast alien landscape of shows, programs and other watchables. So the odds of a really good show not getting special recognition are about as good as Michael Chiklis' chances of his noggin being mistaken for a shiny, beige Brunswick in a bowling alley.
The Emmys also tend to favor younger shows rather than the oldies that have had their chance to win some awards because the best stuff on television is always fresher out of the gate. It's just the beast of the cycle. Great movies age like a fine cheese. Great TV shows age like spray cheese.
The Shield, however, got totally snubbed from this year's nomination list. And is that something the Academy really wants to do to a guy with a hair trigger anger who considers a Smith and Wesson as his "backup piece"? (I should ask myself the same thing after that bowling ball noggin joke.)

Every year I foolishly get excited that maybe this year the Emmys will reach out and nominate something different. But then it's the
same old nominees from the previous year. Even if a show has an off year, Emmy just goes ahead and nominates it again.
Of last year's six nominees for Drama Series, only one didn't make the cut this year. Lead Actor kept five of their six nominees as well, and Lead Actress kept all five nominees from last year. That's fifteen of 17 repeat contenders from last year in three categories. If Emmy hadn't added a slot each to Series and Actress it might have been a virtual rerun.
With all those repeats, there's no room to honor the final season of
Battlestar Galactica. Maybe Emmy voters look at the shows they picked last year and say "That's still on, right? Let's go with that." And they're done picking their nominees in less than ten minutes.

There are a lot of really horrible things that have put America on the map: Jerry Springer, our ability to infuse anything edible with cheese, the fact that we're probably working on infusing something inedible with cheese.
Guns, however, shouldn't be one of them. The Second Amendment stands as one of many great testaments to the idea of freedom that our forefathers envisioned for their people. They felt a government should trust their people with great responsibility if they truly believed in the concept of freedom and democracy.
Sure, if they came to the present and saw that we primarily use that responsibility for hunting moose from helicopters and negotiating with the Domino's guy they might take it right back, but the idea is what's important.
So to celebrate one of America's latest of many birthday to come because fireworks are technically illegal in my neck of the woods, here are your TV's seven greatest guns.

(S03E03) It seems as though everyone wants to be Michael's boss. Everyone but the CIA or the NSA or some other international spy agency, including whatever organization burned him in the first place. But characters like Carla last season or the rogue Management group at the start of this season, as well as Brennen, tonight's guest handler, they're all for Michael.
Seth Peterson was back as Nate, Michael's brother with a propensity for great-rich-quick schemes and getting into trouble. This time, though, he was a pawn in Brennen's game to get Michael to do his bidding.

The Shield may have wrapped its run this past year, but that doesn't mean creator Shawn Ryan is done with FX. The network did let his vision run its course to completion, so I'm sure he's quite comfortable there. I know I am. This time, he's executive producing with
Ocean's Eleven scribe Ted Griffin on the new dramedy
Terriers, about a detective who teams up with a young hot-shot.
FX has already greenlit Terriers, and Griffin has turned in the scripts so it's down to casting.

Did you ever get news that both enthralled and worried you all at the same time? Like remember when you were a kid and you heard you were going to Disney World but first you would have to drop off your sick puppy at the vet for a little nap?
That's the feeling my gut got when
series creator Shawn Ryan said
Fox might make a Shield movie if demand called for it.
The question actually sparked an interesting and light-hearted war of friendly curses between the cast and
Sons of Anarchy star Ron Perlman who was also on the dais to grub for Emmy nods.
Walter Walton Goggins, the actor who brilliantly played the daft and overly cocky Shane Vendrell, uttered "That is bull#*$&!" since his character killed his family and then shot himself in the final episode just as the Barn closed in on him. That's not a direct quote, by the way. He may have used different punctuation marks.

Michael Chiklis is regularly hinting that a feature film version of
The Shield is in the offing, while official news of any such production is still under wraps.
With posts like,"Vic Mackey lives!" and others,
Chiklis is using his Facebook page to hype the
Shield movie rumor. He linked to an
E! article on the possible film no less than three times.
The problem is it's difficult to find any other media coverage on the possibility of
The Shield heading to theaters. In fact, Chiklis' favorite article above is pretty much it. So, is Chiklis leaking something producers would just as soon keep quiet for now?

Jane After Dark adventures, you know it's all about the DVDs I watch into the wee hours while I'm covering the
TV Squad queue and everyone else (at least in my house) is sleeping.
I've finished
Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and I'm nearly done with
Angel. I'll post this weekend about season five of
Angel. You guys are
absolutely right. It's awesome TV.
After that, I need you to help me choose my next Jane After Dark series. There are so many great TV shows on DVD, and frankly, I'm stumped at what to watch next. So please vote in my poll below, and tell me what to do! And if you don't see your series listed, tell me in the comments, and I'll add it to the list next time.

The TV is a weird beast. Your show can have ridiculously high ratings, receive greater critical claim than the Mona Lisa and achieve a cult following not seen since the People's Temple, and the network can still pull the plug on you.
TV Land doesn't work like Reality Land, if the Reality Land is in fact reality and not some bizarre reality land where meat-hungry producers are the gods of fate. TV has a different equation for success.

Maria Bello got her own series, because it seems like she's always playing the wife of someone. She hasn't done a lot of TV lately, not since
ER in the 1990s. But at the movies, she's played the wife of Viggo Mortensen (
A History of Violence), Nicolas Cage (
World Trade Center), Tim McGraw (
Flicka), and Brendan Fraser (
The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor), to name a few.
Maybe Bello finally realized that in order to front a series, she'd have to do it herself! She's
signed a deal with HBO to executive produce and star in a new series, according to
Variety.
The untitled hour-long project follows a woman who's forced into a life of crime to support her three teenage sons after her husband is killed (so, no husband whatsoever in
this series).

It's been more than three weeks since
The Shield ended its seven-year run, and I still find myself wanting more. Not just wanting it. Craving it, needing it, willing to do anything for it -- the way one of Vic's CI junkies would gather intel on the One-Niners in the hopes he'll get to trade it for a taste of the sweet liquid heaven of Maxwell's Silver Hammer.
The ending isn't my problem. In fact, it's one of the better series endings I've seen in my lifetime. The show didn't go out all guns a blazin' in a fiery final showdown, with Shane or Vic waking up next to Suzanne Pleshette and realizing the entire season was just a dream that took place in an autistic child's snow globe.

TNT knows drama. That's their logo, their mantra, their promise to viewers, and with
The Closer, for instance, they've delivered. Now they're prepping another new drama, this one with some major experience in front of the camera and behind it.
It sort of reads like a dream team.
Dylan McDermott starring in a Jerry Bruckheimer drama called The Line for TNT. Only it's not a dream. It's a pilot for 2009.
Instead of sharing this one with CBS where his shows dominate the line up --
CSI, CSI: New York, CSI: Miami, Eleventh Hour, Cold Case, Without A Trace, The Amazing Race --
Jerry Bruckheimer has decided to share the wealth a bit. He's moved this one over to TNT. However, he's bringing in
