"You Don't Know Dick": It's about time for another segment! I was worried they had run out of wacky things about our VP. The Today Show's Meredith Vieira stopped by Dick Cheney's house, which doesn't look quite as pixelated in person, to show the world just how rich and creepy his home is. Abandoned children's toys and lonely swings aren't exactly inviting images. The most amusing part of this was not the sneak peek at the Cheney household (although I'm sure you loved it), but the sheer terror evident in the audience's reactions to any mention of "nude, pixelated Cheney genitalia". That's actually the name of my new emo band.Posts with tag TheColbertReport

Colbert, Clinton, Obama and Edwards take on Philadelphia - VIDEOS

What in the hell happened last night on The Colbert Report? Or perhaps I'm really wondering why I attended Monday's taping of TCR in Philadelphia and not the final and certainly most epic one.
In true Colbert fashion, TCR ended its four-night run in the City of Brotherly Love with a big ol' Democratic bang. Thanks to Chris Matthews' big mouth, the nation expected Hillary Clinton's "surprise" appearance, but little did we know both Barack Obama and John Edwards would be appearing as well... On the same night! Despite the fact that this was all a blatantly desperate attempt to get a little Colbert Bump action (Edwards knows it's too late, right? I mean, what with him dropping out of the race and all), there really is no better way to seem hip to that all-important youth vote.

Please excuse this late Daily Show review. Yes, another one. But, as usual, I have a legitimate reason for my tardiness, because you know I fly right. I'm still recovering from my journey to The Colbert Report's first night in Philadelphia, the full report for which will be posted very soon. Spoiler alert: I didn't get mugged.Until that gets posted, enjoy this review and reruns of Sunday's Night of Too Many Stars autism benefit that Jon hosted (if you download from iTunes, proceeds go to the charity!). Jon briefly touched on a specific moment from the night, when Senator Chris Dodd made an appearance behind the phones, sporting a mysterious blue ear. The only logical explanation is that the senator is actually a secret Blue Man. Really, I don't know why he was rubbing his ear against a Blue Man backstage and, to be quite honest, I don't really want to think about it. This may or may not be because I'm imagining a body-painted David Cross in cut-off shorts as the Blue Man in question. Eww.

They most prestigious award for excellence in broadcasting -- next to the Emmys -- were announced today. The 67th Annual Peabody Awards honored Mad Men, 30 Rock, Dexter, Project Runway, The Colbert Report -- all favorites here at TV Squad -- among others. To the Peabody Award voters, I say, "Good job." NBC News anchorman Brian Williams will be the emcee.

Before we begin, let's talk about Stephen Colbert, because you all know I never pass up a chance to do so. He announced Monday night that The Colbert Report is hitting the road and covering the Pennsylvania primaries from Philadelphia the week of April 14. Did any of you all manage to score tickets? Despite the fact that the location will be able to seat, like, 900 people each night, the tickets ran out pretty quickly. My friend called me up in the middle of the night to tell me that I'm coming with her that Monday, which was a pleasant surprise that didn't really hit me until the next morning when I was fully awake and had the time to catch a rerun and find out what was going on. Anyway, if you'll be attending on the 14th, hunt me down in the crowd and we can be buddies. I'll be the awkward Asian girl getting dragged away by security after trying to break into Stephen's dressing room.Continue reading The Daily Show: March 18, 2008

"Indecision 2008": Remember how Michigan and Florida had their primaries early and nobody cared? Yeah, well now people totally do care and they want do-overs. Didn't see the neck-and-neck race coming, did ya? I know some other things were discussed, but I can't quite remember. My brain actually fizzled out once they showed the Michigan mitten/Florida wang wank. What is The Daily Show putting their graphics department through? First the 9/11 sex bed and now... this. I hope they don't show it again, because I've heard it might lead to blindness or a hairy Lansing.Continue reading The Daily Show: March 6, 2008 - VIDEO

Apologies for my lateness, dear readers, for I am recovering from an epic (and somewhat embarrassing) adventure to the Colbert Report studio for a taping. Expect a lengthy post about that soon, but enjoy this for now.First up, a double dose of happy news! The Daily Show script supervisor, Kira, got engaged. Hurrahs all around! The writers' strike is (tentatively) over. More hurrahs all around! Writers for both TDS and The Colbert Report are expected to return Wednesday, which is spectacular news. As much as I have loved the wackiness of the past few weeks, I know the writers' return will be a huge load off the shoulders of both Jon and Stephen and all of their show staff.

Occasionally, I will watch a particularly crazy episode of The Daily Show or The Colbert Report and sit through the credits feeling very angry with myself. "I had nothing to do today," I often think. "I could have jumped onto a bus and gone to a taping to get a piece of that awesomeness." Well, I am sad to report that this happened again, but this time in the most extreme way possible. I'm itching to talk about it and let my fangirly nerves express themselves, but I need to go through this chronologically or my brain will explode.Continue reading A Daily Show: February 4, 2008
Stephen Colbert's incredible substitute for a beard of solidarity - VIDEO
Stephen Colbert doesn't normally get heavy on The Colbert Report, but when he does, boy, does he go all out. In last night's episode of the Report, Stephen staged one of the most touching displays of love to the picketing writers that I have seen since the start of the strike. Before introducing the night's guest, Ambassador Andrew Young, the last living member of Dr. Martin Luther King's inner circle, Stephen rolled a video celebrating Young's efforts in a certain strike in 1969. In Stephen's hometown of Charleston, South Carolina, hundreds of black hospital workers went on strike, demanding fair pay, equal to their whiter counterparts. Young played a huge role in leading the community to support the workers. However, when he attempted to have some private negotiations with the hospital, the only administrator that was willing to speak with Young was a man named Dr. James Colbert, Stephen's father.

Stephen Colbert drops out of presidential race
He's out! Stephen Colbert is not going to be America's next president, or indeed, even the next presidential candidate. The South Carolina Democratic Executive Council voted to keep Stephen Colbert's name off the primary ballot, which pretty effectively ends his presidential campaign. Nevertheless, Colbert would not be Colbert without making a showy public withdrawal.Colbert has been running for president in South Carolina, and chronicling his campaign adventures on The Colbert Report. Despite Colbert's position as a mock Republican, he campaigned as a Democrat, probably -- as The Huffington Post notes -- because it was less expensive to file as a liberal.

Colbert announces running mate
According to this AOL article, Stephen Colbert has picked a running mate for his "presidential run". In keeping with his presidential theme of the ludicrous, the person in question is Senator Larry Craig, who is being investigated for a sex scandal in an airport men's room. The concept of a celebrity running a fake campaign for public office is nothing new. Howard Stern did a brief run for governor a few years ago. Ronald Reagan, a former actor, became president and Fred Thompson seems to be trying to follow in his footsteps.

Stephen Colbert sued for $65 million - VIDEO
We continue to celebrate Lawsuit Week here at TV Squad, and today's is a doozy: a host of Air America's Young Turks is suing Stephen Colbert for stealing one of his jokes and using it on The Colbert Report.
Cenk Uygur claims that Colbert stole his joke comparing various Republicans to Klingons, and there's video to "prove" it (after the jump). Uygur is clearly looking for a way to get on The Colbert Report and debate this with Colbert and is only doing this for publicity really thinks he has a case here. I wonder if Colbert will respond?
Actually, I could have sworn I had heard Republicans compared to Klingons some place else, a year or two ago, but I can't remember where. Does it ring a bell with anyone else?

"War Wars": Bush has said many times over that he feels that this war is a different kind of war. We now know that he really meant that the war is just like 'Nam. I also liked Jon's weak spit takes. Senior Political Correspondent Aasif Mandvi elaborated on Bush's notes on Vietnam. Mandvi seems like he's slowly developing a character? I'm sensing a bit of Colbert-esque smarminess.
