Bethenny Frankel replaced on The Real Housewives of NYC

bethenny_frankelBF is nobody's BFF these days... or so it seems. Just days after Bravo announced that three reality stars were getting spinoffs of their own, one of them has made news again. Bethenny Frankel is out of The Real Housewives of New York York City and Sonja Morgan has been added.

Now, this could be as simple as Bethenny is moving on to star in her own show as was announced. However, there are rumors that in the few episodes she's done for the new season of Real Housewives, Bethenny has been feuding with the other ladies.

Seven shows that need funny commentators more than American Idol

Ellen DeGeneresAmerican Idol's choice of Ellen DeGeneres as a judge replacement threw everyone for a loop, even schlubs like me who don't watch the show.

It's not that she's not talented, successful or funny. It's just an odd choice, putting a comedian on the show that takes its goal of crushing losers' dreams on live television so seriously. It would evoke the same reaction from me if they picked Andrew "Dice" Clay as the new judge, if the Diceman was talented, successful or funny.

And besides, why do they need humor and comedy on such an otherwise serious show? There are lots of humorless, vapid and downright boring shows that are crying out for comedic interjection.

Bethenny Frankel disses Rachel Zoe and her "project"

bethenny_frankel_bravoIt's taken a real housewife to call it like it is. One of the Real Housewives of New York, Bethenny Frankel tweeted about Rachel Zoe and how ridiculous her Bravo show is. I can't imagine the network is happy about the shot across shows, but Bethenny is completely right. The Rachel Zoe Project is one of the worst reality shows I've seen in a long time and Zoe is way over the top.

On Monday, Frankel took to Twitter to pose the question, "Wondering if I'm the only one who can't get over the self-important nonsense that is Rachel Zoe. Wow."

You're not alone, BF. In just a few episodes, Rachel has revealed herself to be completely self-involved, horrible to work for, obsessed with frippery, and possessed of a vocabulary that would make a Valley Girl sound like William F. Buckley.

Buh-bye Housewives! Bethenny scores her own show

bethenny_frankel_skinny_BravoThe way I see it, Bethenny Frankel was the star of The Real Housewives of New York City ... even though she wasn't a housewife. What was she doing on the show in the first place? Anyway, she was the most dynamic of the group and with her interests in fashion, food and partying, she had the most to offer viewers. The powers that be have seen what I did because Bethenny Frankel is getting her own Bravo show.

Starting this fall, Bethenny will be front and center in a new show called Skinny & the City. As you'd expect, she will not be coming back to The Real Housewives of New York City -- however, she might not be the only one out because rumor has it that the ladies have all been looking for a substantial pay raise.

Bravo's latest find is lost footage

K Griffin BravoYou know, I have to tip my cap -- yes, I'm wearing one -- to Bravo. It seems to me that everything NBC does wrong with their programming, the NBC Universal cable net Bravo does right. Case in point is this new innovation, if you want to call it that, the lost footage episode.

Suddenly, out of nowhere really, Bravo has been stretching their unscripted, reality shows by adding an extra show labeled The Lost Footage. The Real Housewives of New York City was the first I caught, but soon after there was Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List Lost Footage. Coming up is one on The Real Housewives of Orange County.

Bravo concocts The Real Housewives of D.C.

bravo logoRemember that Barbra Streisand-Donna Summer disco duet, "Enough Is Enough"? That's what came to mind when I read that Bravo is planning another edition of The Real Housewives, this time D.C. Is there any end to Bravo's lack of innovation? Are there no new ideas out there that they have to spin out more housewives. How real they are remains debatable, if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong. I've actually watched The Real Housewives of Orange County, as well as the New York City ladies and even the newest creation, those Jersey girls, The Real Housewives of New Jersey. The latter, in fact, are a hoot if you can get past the similarities to Carmela Soprano that imbue the entire series. I keep expecting Tony or Uncle Junior to pop up at one of their parties.

Bethenny Frankel does killer impressions (and not just of Jill Zarin)

Bethenny Frankel - Real Housewives of New York CityThe ladies of The Real Housewives of New York City are, needless to say, a colorful bunch. The Bravo franchise seems to have hit its stride, with each cast of Housewives providing their own flavor. But in comparison to Orange County and Atlanta, the ladies of New York seem especially weird. Perhaps it's apropos to their all living in a city with crazy people at every corner, but whatever the case may be, these gals are bonkers.

Sure, the show may just be a well-delivered product of sneaky producers and menacing editors, but somebody's doing something right in bringing out the bizarre nuances of Jill, LuAnn, Alex, Ramona, and Bethenny - although she, of the whipsmart one-liners and catchphrases, seems to be the crowd favorite (judging by ... conversations I've had with people).

Bravo scrounges up a bonus Real Housewives of NYC episode

The Real Housewives of NYCSo, if you're like me -- and I know you are -- you watched The Real Housewives of New York City reunion show -- the one where Ramona walked off the set because she was shocked (SHOCKED!) that Alex had posed for nude photos that had recently been published. Well, that reunion show wasn't the end. Leave to the good folks at Bravo -- the same people that show episodes of Project Runway, Top Chef, Workout, etc. over and over again so you are bound to see them two or three times each -- to find enough excess footage for yet another episode of the Big Apple socialites.

Calling the show a "watercooler sensation," Bravo has pieced together another hour of The Real Housewives of New York City and it will air Tuesday, May 27 at 9 o'clock (ET/PT). Don't worry, if you miss it then, you'll be able to find it on one of the upteen reruns.

Bravo unveils its plans for the new season

BravoYou know they have to been ticked off at Bravo about losing Project Runway to Lifetime. Still, Bravo execs stood up at a breakfast in New York to announce their new schedule, all happy and smiling. The good news is that they still have some good stuff coming up, starting with more Kathy Griffin, another season of goofy Jeff Lewis, the house flipper, and -- oh, yeah -- one more edition of Project Runway. Should we call in the auld lang syne edition?

Here's the rundown of what's coming back for Bravo:

-- Project Runway: The last Bravo season (unless something changes) will begin in July 2008, with the usual cast of judges.
