The Price Is Right's Rich Fields has officially lost his mind

I can't imagine the discipline and training it must take to be a top notch TV game show announcer. But whether it involves daily gargling, diction concentration exercises or repeating phrases like "My grandmother brought candy to the bigamist" over and over, it must take a toll on your sanity.

That's the only explanation I can fathom for The Price Is Right announcer Rich Fields' slow cognitive eradication as evidenced by this video. Let's hope gets a "brand new braaaiin" real soon.

Price is Right model + remote control skateboard = hilarious

The Price is Right is full of bloopers, bleeps and blappers. But only one word can describe this: blooptastic.

One of the show's models (what are they called now? Drew's Dames? Carey's Chicks?) was modeling a prize, specifically a remote controlled skateboard, and...well, you can probably imagine what happens next. And if you can't, please get an imagination upgrade.

Happy 7000th episode, Price is Right

I'm not sure if it seems like it should be more episodes or less, but The Price is Right has been going strong since 1972 and they're going to be celebrating their 7000th episode on November 5. I guess that seems right, it's just that when a show is on for 37 years you lose all track of the number of episodes.

Here's a behind the scenes look at tomorrow's show.

The Price is Right has had much squirrelier contestants

Terry Kneiss on The Price is RightTerry Kniess, the Double Showcase winner on The Price is Right who got his bid right on the money, may have been a "dark day" for Drew Carey, but he's no cheater.

In fact, there have been more egregious and blatant attempts to guarantee a win in a pricing game by skewing the odds in their favor, sometimes right in front of the host's eyes.

For instance, here's a "Shell Game" contestant who does something so outrageous, so ballsy, so completely devious that Bob Barker can't help but rip her to verbal shreds in front of the entire nation. And not only does she get away with it, but she actually wins the game!

Perfect Showcase bid was a "dark day" on The Price is Right, says Drew Carey

Drew Carey on Season 38 of The Price is RightWhen I came upon Drew Carey at CBS's TCA party over the summer, he was tapping away on his iPhone. He was sending a tweet to one of the responders on one of his two Twitter feeds, and was generally having a ball. So I figured he was in a good mood to talk about the show he's most known for these days, The Price Is Right.

It was a season of change for Drew and the show; the prizes got more creative, Drew changed his look, and the show in general did a lot to break out of the mold of the Bob Barker years.

Of course, those changes didn't go unnoticed, as some of the show's more "devoted" fans took to sites like Golden-Road.net to disparage Drew and say the show was going downhill. There was even a minor controversy this past season, as a contestant made a suspiciously on-the-mark Showcase bid, and Drew's reaction to it was less than enthusiastic (for good reason, as he mentions in the interview).

The Price is Right has changed its set too

Drew CareyThe Price is Right set has gone through a lot of changes over the years, but today's season premiere showed that they were really busy over the summer (as was the Jeopardy crew).

The show used to have a very '70s vibe (even in the '80s and '90s), and then they replaced the more '70s-ish designs with more of a '50s look (while still keeping a lot of the '70s stuff). Today we found out that the retro '50s graphics are still evident on the walls, but they've also changed the two main areas of the stage. The screens on Contestants Row are now more clean and boxy than they used to be, and it looks like they're using a different lighting system for the numbers that pop up on the screens. Looks better.

What You Missed Last Night: Bob Barker fights a wrestler

This is all kinds of crazy. Last night, Bob Barker appeared on Monday Night RAW. Thankfully, he didn't jump from the ropes and land on top of one of the wrestlers, but he did get physical with one of them (thanks to Chuck Norris).

Interesting that they used the real Price is Right logo (not sure if it's the actual set or not). Here's more.

Drew Carey's got a blog... and TPiR "fans" have already ticked him off

Drew Carey in his office. From his blog drewfromtv.blogspot.comYa gotta give Drew Carey a lot of credit. Going into his third season on The Price is Right, he's been able to step in the shoes of an icon, Bob Barker, and do a good job. He's also his part to drag the 38-year-old show into the 21st century, whether it wants to be here or not.

A couple of weeks ago, Drew simultaneously started a blog called Drew From TV, and a Twitter feed called TPIRHost, essentially to talk about his backstage experiences at TPiR, and whatever else he happens to think about (he soon started a second Twitter feed called DrewFromTV so he could muse on politics, soccer, and his other interests without associating it with the show).

Bob Barker owes this contestant a thousand dollars

This clip is from 1993, but it's worth seeing again (or for the first time - I'm a huge Price Is Right fan and I don't remember this at all). A woman spins the wheel and gets 75 cents. She spins again and gets 25 cents, so that's a dollar, which means she gets $1000 and a bonus spin. Nope. Bob doesn't realize she got a buck and thinks its only 95 cents. They just go on with the show and no one says anything about it (though it's possible someone is tries to say something to Bob at one point but the sound isn't clear). Scandal!

[thanks to reader Bob for the tip]

Here's Bob Barker on today's Price is Right - VIDEO

Bob BarkerIf you didn't watch today's episode of The Price is Right, you missed a woman wearing a "Substitute Teachers Need Random Sets Too" t-shirt (which I'm still not sure I understand), a woman winning a set of Star Trek Pez dispensers (!),Drew Carey showing what the price card looks like inside that envelope used on Contestants Row (not sure if we've ever seen that before), and a woman flapping her arms up and down like a bird in excitement, even though she didn't win a car in the Lucky 7 game (side note: that game is impossible to win now). Oh, and you also missed Bob Barker return to the show he hosted for over 30 years.

Barker made his first appearance on the show since his retirement to promote his new memoir, Priceless Memories. He showed up during the showcases. After the jump, his appearance (along with interviews and some behind the scenes footage).

The most awesome thing you'll see on the web today: TV show dioramas!

Price is Right set
There are a lot of TV show set designs that I love, but I've never really given any thought to how put them together exactly. I used to assume they just drew up plans and/or blueprints with the measurements and all that and then the set designers and the rest of the crew would build the sets. I never once thought they were done this way.

On The Set has pictures of the original dioramas (those little models you might have built for a class back in school, though I never did) made for various shows over the years. These things are great! Check out the Price is Right set above. The site even has more dioramas from the show, from different angles.

The Price is Right has a special guest today (spoiler!)

Drew CareyWe've already heard that former host Bob Barker is going to appear on The Price is Right later this month to promote his new autobiography. But there's another guest that's going to pop up on the show, and it happens today: Mimi from The Drew Carey Show!

Well, to be accurate, Kathy Kinney will appear on her former co-star Drew Carey's CBS game show today as part of the April Fool's Day festivities.

I remember a great April Fool's day Price is Right episode years ago. One of the showcases was their regular "Something For Every Room In The House," but the prizes this day were things like a yo-yo for a game room and a cup for a kitchen. It was pretty funny and really unexpected. Not sure if Drew has anything like that planned for today or if we're just going to see Kinney as Mimi causing havoc on the set.

Bob Barker to return to The Price Is Right (for one night only)

Bob BarkerTelevision icon Bob Barker will be returning to the game show that made him famous for a cameo appearance on April 16 alongside regular host Drew Carey. The appearance is serving as a promotion for his upcoming autobiography Priceless Memories.

Granted, I haven't watched the show since the 1970's (although I hear Drew Carey is doing a good job), but I think his appearance is going to somewhat overshadow Carey (for example, the studio in which The Price Is Right is filmed is now called the Bob Barker Studio). There are a myriad of people who still associate Barker with that show. It would be like when Johnny Carson stopped by Letterman's CBS show. As an analogy, who do people remember most as the host of Family Feud, Richard Dawson or Richard Karn?

More power to Barker for taking on a grueling schedule like a promotional tour at his age. Price-enthusiasts, mark your calendar.

The Price is Right - video game review

It's more than a little ironic (or tragic, depending on how much you give a rat's ass) that the most successful game show in the history of American television has never had a truly worthy home game. One worthy enough to give to loser contestants so they can win against their own friends and family at home because God is a cruel comedian.

Seriously, God should get his own Mark Twain Prize.

Now after more than 35 years on the air, there is such a game: The Price is Right video game. And it's so well done and fun that it could crush the soul of a 300-pound linebacker from Obetz, Ohio who lost out on his chance to be the only guy in town who owns a Chrysler Crossfire.

Drew Carey is finally shedding his identity... and I like it

New Drew on TPiRUnlike some of The Price is Right's most ardent fans -- and anyone who's visited a certain fan site know how how anal those fans can be -- I like the job Drew Carey's been doing as the show's host. He's a personable guy whose gentle but somewhat snarky sense of humor brings the show somewhat closer to 21st century sensibilities than it had been under Bob Barker. Yes, his attempts at bringing humor to certain parts of the show and his somewhat uneven levels of enthusiasm have been problematic. But overall, he's doing a good job.

One thing I've noticed about Drew lately is that he's finally dropping the "high school vice principal" look he's had since he started doing stand-up in the eighties. No more round glasses and crew cut; he now sports fashionable black frames and has grown out his hair a bit. Heck, sometimes he doesn't even wear a tie, as the picture above shows.
