With the much-anticipated premiere of Community finally bowing tonight, I figured it was a good time to pull out the interview I did with Joel McHale when I encountered him at the NBC party during the TCA press tour. I didn't talk to McHale about his current NBC show, however; I talked to him about his previous NBC show.
Fans of the British sitcom The IT Crowd may remember that an American pilot was shot and the show was announced for NBC's midseason schedule a couple of years back, with McHale playing Roy and Richard Ayoade bringing his breakout role of Moss over from the original. Only, the pilot never saw the light of day, and a series was never picked up.
I asked McHale about what caused the show to be dropped and if he has any regrets over the show's flame-out. Then, as a person standing in front of the host of The Soup would tend to do, I asked him about what in the reality TV landscape gets him charged up. Interview is after the jump.
If you haven't seen our game before, we give you a picture from a recent episode of a TV series and you provide the caption! Last week's winner is Man with this:
"Yes, I'm staring at the spinach stuck in your teeth. That is effing amazing since all you made today was brownies."
This week's picture is from Live with Regis & Kelly. Anderson Cooper guest hosted and caused some controversy with his questions for Bachelorette Jillian.
Bob Sassone already did a post on how the amazing Anderson Cooper caused a little bit of an accident on the set of Live with Regis and Kelly yesterday morning when he subbed for the Reege. As funny as that -- and really, the entire "host chat" segment was -- it was not my favorite thing that happened on the show yesterday.
That honor goes to Cooper's interview with The Bachelorette's Jillian Harris. Harris was on the show with her "fiance," doing the post-finale press tour and shilling for the jeweler who provided the diamond ring that Ed bestowed upon her on Monday's season-ender.
While Kelly stuck to the script and asked the common, "when did you know he was the one?" questions, Anderson wasn't having any of it. He's Anderson freakin' Cooper, and as he demonstrated with his swift takedown of the Lohan clan, he doesn't have time for the shenanigans of D-list reality stars (except Kathy Griffin). So Cooper, always trying to get to the bottom of the story, flat-out asked Jillian how many dudes she boned in the Bachelorette mansion.
Did you know that there was supposed to be a new episode ("Jabberwocky") of Better Off Ted last night? But ABC decided to go with a rerun of the Bachelorette finale. Which had already aired. The night before.
Sigh.
Anyway, two episodes next week. In the meantime, there's this.
The ABC.com promo for the season finale of The Bachelorette proclaimed "Trust us, you won't believe what happens." So what happened? Did Jillian turn out to be a robot? Did she kill the last couple of bachelor contestants? Did Bobby Ewing show up in the shower alive? What a stupid show this is, on so many levels. But I'm just glad that Jillian has found TRUE LOVE.
