Time to meet the newest member of the
Daily Show team, Mr.
Josh Gad. That picture to the right is him, furiously staring into your soul and preparing to pump you full of lead/laughter. He debuted back in early May and filed his first report just this week. Both of his appearances involved guns, so I guess if
TDS's team were a traditional mid-90s boy band, he'd be the trigger-happy one of the group.
Those of you who watched the short-lived
Back To You may recognize Gad as Ryan Church, the news director. A
few episodes are on Hulu, American readers, with the first episode embedded after the jump for your Internet-laziness/convenience.

At least we know one thing about Jim Cramer: He may not have been able to predict the collapse of the Dow, but at least he has the
cajones to face the comedian that's tearing him to pieces.
That's right, folks:
Cramer will be appearing on The Daily Show on Thursday to defend himself in the war of funny he's gotten into with Jon Stewart and his writers. If you didn't see
TDS last night, Stewart shot back at Cramer, who went on various NBC shows to defend himself against
TDS' "turd mining," as Stewart called it. In this case, it was a compilation of clips that showed Cramer sticking with Bear Stearns shortly before its 2008 collapse. That, of course, was after
Stewart and company ripped CNBC as a whole for missing the current crisis. Video of last night's segment, which was dubbed "Cramer vs. Not Cramer: Basic Cable Personality Clash Skirmish '09!"

BEST
Summer Heights High: Including this Australian show from 2007 is only kind of, sort of cheating because it premiered in America (HBO) this year. Ha! Loophole! Anyway, this show was a great discovery and it's worth a look if you're into mockumentaries. Chris Lilley's performance(s) were hilarious and I am not ashamed to admit I still get "Naughty Girl" stuck in my head every once in a while.

Sharilyn Johnson, a
Daily Show fan, went to the live election night show and couldn't get in. She didn't just show up and expect to get in, she had tickets for months, and had confirmed and reconfirmed a few times. She did everything correctly and still she couldn't get in. Out of the 250 people in line that night, only 21 got in. I guess there were a lot of VIP guests that night. The show screwed up. Johnson
writes about it at The Huffington Post.
But I'm wondering if she's not overreacting to the entire episode when she says things like this:

Feeling a little stressed out about Election Day? Worried you'll completely seize up with anxiety in the voting booth, collapse and not be found for several hours? Worried that the building will burst into flames and/or the Rapture will happen before anyone
does find you? Yeah. Yeah, me too. For those that want a little something to calm their nerves before/after they do their American duty and have already run out of horse tranquilizers, Comedy Central is running an
all-day marathon of the most recent episodes of
The Daily Show and
The Colbert Report on November 4th.

Time for a bit of news about our favorite real couple in fake news!
Daily Show correspondents Jason Jones and Samantha Bee have signed on to co-write and co-star
in a CBS comedy. Jones will star as a celebrity chef and Bee will play one of the two ladies that run his most likely Rachael Ray-esque empire. Some semblance of hilarity will ensue, hopefully.
Doing a sitcom be a departure from what
TDS fans are used to seeing from these two. I can only vaguely remember Bee's one or two, super-brief sitcom guest spots and and the only non-
TDS thing I remember Jones doing was that weird crafting battle show on Style. No, I did not dream that; there was definitely a show called
Craft Corner Deathmatch. It was extreme as it sounds, with a lot of intense hot glue and bric-a-brac.

Papa Bear bless the
No Fact Zone for pointing out this gem, just as
Colbert Report fans prepared for yet another week of reruns and the accompanying nights of non-stop sobbing. Those tired of trying to scour the Comedy Central website for specific clips of the show can now visit this handy page of what looks like
all the Colbert Report episodes online. My goodness, it's like the greatest satire-related September Christmas ever.

Although fake news hosts and correspondents are super wonderful and the folks running the equipment do marvelous jobs, there's a great amount of talent that often goes tragically unnoticed. Well, now is the time to adjust the limelight a little bit and focus on one of those groups. The newest issue of PRINT Magazine has an interesting look at the
graphics departments of
The Daily Show and
The Colbert Report, who consistently provide visually stunning and hilarious material that bring half the shows' funny.

Before we jump right into things, let's take a moment to think about just how amazing these past two weeks of
Daily Show have been. The program has always been pretty solid, but both the Democratic National Convention and the Republican National Convention have provided beautiful fodder for both Jon and the correspondents, who seem to have finally hit their stride. This particular group of correspondents works best when they're all teamed up, and it really showed during convention coverage. From Jason Jones and Samantha Bee sucking face in front of hapless interviewees to Rob Riggle and Wyatt Cenac grillin' up some arugula in an elitist parking lot.
TDS is taking another break next week and, boy, do they deserve it.

"Sarah Palin: Vet This!": More of that thrilling Republican National Convention coverage. I think I either underestimated just how super-snarky the right is or I just missed a hefty chunk of all the jackassery from the convention coverage. I mean, Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani mocking my community service alone would probably leave me in a serious case of playground tears.

Some correspondents reported on the real reason why Republicans have gathered in Minnesota, and as it turns out, it's just to check out Larry Craig's old Minnesota airport stall. I think most audience members missed John Oliver's sneaky tweaking of the word "clockwork", unfortunately. However, the audience didn't miss any of Jason Jones' stall activities, which were especially disturbing, whereas Aasif Mandvi's handicap stall antics were just fabulous. I wonder if those dancers were just hapless interns roped into a scene. Also, the dancing reminded me of a beautiful moment from one of Stephen Colbert's old
Daily Show reports, forever immortalized in
this hypnotizing GIF. In other news,
The Daily Show must be the only reason why Jimmy Dean Chocolate Chip Pancakes & Sausage on a Stick is still in existence.

The Daily Show team must be exhausted. Last week was Tuesday through Friday on-location coverage of the Democratic National Convention in Colorado, and this week is the same from the Republican National Convention in Minnesota. I can't even imagine how new mommy-again Samantha Bee has been handling this, returning at the busiest time in months.

"The Heart of Hopeness": Barack Obama delivered his acceptance speech the other night, to a stadium full of insanely excited Democrats. John Oliver filed a report live from the site of Obama's speech. Man, John has really been putting himself on the line this week, being incredibly annoying in front of so many overexcited people. I mean, chanting "Osama!" at a massive crowd of Obama lovers is almost a sure to bring about a beating, but he totally lucked out with some relatively mild verbal confrontation. Other great moments included dancing to Jeremiah Wright's "white friends" song and making his move on hot strangers. As we would see later in the episode, it seems like the Democratic National Convention brought out the friskiness in the correspondents.

"Guess Who's Coming to Denver": Seeing Jon Stewart and Aasif Mandvi make those jokes about (not) seeing Barack Obama's speech made me wonder if there are still any regular viewers who don't understand when
The Daily Show (and
The Colbert Report) tape and air their episodes. I remember when I started watching Conan O'Brien when I was super young, all the "It's really 11:30 at night!" jokes flew way over my head. So, just in case you don't know but are too embarrassed to ask: Both
TDS and
TCR tape around 6:00 or 7:00 in the evening and then air the same night. There.

"Guess Who's Coming to Denver?": Man, I wish it were the Democratic National Convention all day, every day because it seems like it's providing endless, wondrous material for the show. Not only did they make me spend a good three minutes just laughing at Jon's crazy eyes while reacting to Governor Mark Warner's terrible speech (watch his eyes almost fall off his face when Jon says, "His speech
suuucks"), but they've once again reminded me that Dennis Kucinich can do absolutely no jumping around without looking like an over-excited leprechaun. And he has a super-hot wife to make him feel better about any stupid, mean thing that I may say, so it's okay.
Speaking of spouses, that uncomfortably long footage of Bill Clinton looking slack-jawed and slightly baffled also sent me into a spin of uncontrollable laughter. Mouth-breathers are never not funny. In other, more eloquent words: This episode brought the lulz.
