The new season really kicks into gear starting tonight...

• At 7, CBS has the 40th season premiere of 60 Minutes, followed by a new Power of 10 and the season premieres of Cold Case and Shark.
• NBC has a new Football Night In America at 7, then the Cowboys/Bears game.
• The series premiere of The CW Now airs on the The CW at 7, followed by the series premiere of Online Nation.
• At 8, PBS has the premiere Ken Burns miniseries The War.
• FOX has the season premiere of The Simpsons at 8 (or after football), then the season premieres of King of the Hill and Family Guy.
• Nick has a new Zoey 101 at 8, then a new Unfabulous.
• Also at 8: TCM has the original War of the Worlds, then the original Time Machine.
• At 9, ABC has clip shows for Desperate Housewives and Brothers & Sisters.
• There's a new Side Order of Life on Lifetime at 9.
• VH-1 has a new Rock of Love at 9, then new eps of The Pick Up Artist and Hogan Knows Best.

Good gravy, that was bad.

After being rather impressed with Army Wives, I thought the next original offering from Lifetime, Side Order of Life, would offer something just as engaging and worthwhile, but instead I was given a full hour of cookie-cutter characters, lame dialogue and a plot I've already seen in about eight million other TV shows, movies and books.

Will Nip/Tuck have a season six? Why is James Gandolfini going back to HBO and will Larry David end Curb Your Enthusiasm?

These tidbits -- and a tons of swag -- came out at today's TCA press sessions at the Beverly Hilton hotel. I had to remind myself that today was a cable day because the roster of talent read like a major network.

Jason Priestly (Beverly Hills 90210) led the cast of Side Order of Life, a Lifetime series in which star Marisa Coughlan has second thoughts about marrying Priestly. But, hey, if Big dumped Natasha on Sex in the City then I suppose anything's possible.

Lifetime does not currently air any original scripted series, but it plans to change that with three new original series. The first two, Army Wives and State of Mind, were mentioned previously, and the third, a "comedic drama" called Side Order of Life, will premiere this July along with State of Mind (Army Wives will premiere in June).
